HCL Cut-Off 2026: How Shortlisting Works

The HCL cut-off is not published by HCLTech. Unlike a government exam, a company hiring test does not release category-wise cut-off marks or merit lists, so any single number you see online is a candidate-reported or estimated figure. This page explains how shortlisting works for HCL fresher hiring, what is officially stated, and how to set a safe target score.

How shortlisting works

In AMP, you move forward by clearing each stage in order: the cognitive test, the coding or technical test, then Versant, then technical and HR interviews. HCLTech does not state the passing score for the first two tests. The company can set a bar for each drive based on the number of candidates and the roles it needs to fill.

The upgrade to Momentum or Polaris works differently. HCLTech says the top 10% of candidates who clear Ascend may be assessed further through interviews, hackathons or technical tests. That is a relative ranking, so there is no fixed score for it.

Reported figures: use with caution

One preparation site, citing candidate reports, mentions a sectional score of around 70% in an older four-section aptitude test, which it translates to about 11 of 15 questions per section. HCLTech has not confirmed this, and the same site notes that HCLTech does not publish sectional cut-offs. It may not apply to the current AMP format. Treat it as an indicative figure for practice, not a rule.

What affects the cut-off

  • Test difficulty: Different sets or drives can vary in difficulty.

  • Number of applicants: A larger pool lets the company raise the bar.

  • Roles and locations: Needs differ by programme and location, including the New Vistas locations.

  • Sectional minimums: If your drive applies them, a strong section may not offset a weak one.

How to set your target

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat any figure as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass.

  1. Aim high in practice: Aim for 80% or more accuracy in each practice section before the real test. This is our suggested practice benchmark, not an HCLTech figure.

  2. Protect weak sections: Find the section where you score lowest and lift it first.

  3. Prepare Versant separately: Practise speaking aloud, because it is a distinct qualifying step.

  4. Track trends: Look at your last five practice attempts rather than your best one.
