Haryana Staff Selection Commission Group D
HSSC Group D is a recruitment exam conducted by Haryana Staff Selection Commission for group-level government post recruitment, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.
HSSC Group D Study Material
The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) fills Group D posts in Haryana government departments through a single written screening called the Common Eligibility Test (CET). The current HSSC Group D recruitment cycle runs under Advertisement No. 05/2026, published on 18 June 2026. Your CET score, not an interview, decides where you stand in the merit list.
This page brings together the notification, dates, eligibility, fee, exam pattern, syllabus, selection process and a preparation plan. Two points matter most right now. The CET advertisement does not list posts or vacancies, because post details will be published separately. And the exam date had not been announced on the Commission's notice board when this page was last checked, so keep watching the official website.

Notification overview
The Commission released the CET advertisement for Group D posts on 18 June 2026. It follows the Haryana Group-D Employees (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2018, the CET policy notified in December 2024 and the HSSC process rules of 2025.
One-time registration: Applications were taken only through the One Time Registration portal of the Haryana government, not through offline forms.
Earlier registrants: Candidates who registered for CET Advertisement No. 1/2022 or No. 1/2025 had to use the same registration number.
No second fee for some: Applicants who had already applied in the CET for Group C under Advertisement No. 1/2025 did not need to pay the fee again.
Extended deadlines: A public notice dated 3 July 2026 extended the closing dates for the application, the fee and the correction window.

Vacancy details
The advertisement says the details of Group D posts will be published separately, so there is no official vacancy count in the CET notification. Numbers quoted on other websites are estimates and should not be treated as official.
The CET works in two steps. First you qualify in the CET. Then, whenever departments send requisitions, the Commission advertises the posts and invites CET-qualified candidates to confirm their willingness for them. Vacancy numbers, post names and pay will appear in those post-wise advertisements.
Educational qualification
You need Matriculation from a recognised board, with Hindi or Sanskrit studied as one of the subjects up to Matriculation. The Hindi or Sanskrit condition does not apply to Sweeper, Chowkidar and Sweeper-cum-Chowkidar posts. The advertisement lists a missing qualification on the closing date as a cause of rejection.
Age limit
You must be at least 18 years old and not more than 42 years old on the closing date of registration. Age relaxation follows Haryana government instructions.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
Scheduled Castes | 5 years |
Backward Classes | 5 years |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 10 years (plus 5 years if also SC, ST, BC or EWS), up to a maximum of 52 years |
Widowed or legally divorced women, unmarried women | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen | Military service rendered, as per the Haryana rules |
For most categories the upper limit with relaxation cannot go beyond 52 years. Reservation benefits apply only to bonafide residents of Haryana. Reserved-category candidates from other states compete as general-category candidates.
Application fee and how to apply
The fee is paid online and is not refundable. The CET advertisement refers to the CET policy for category-wise amounts. That policy sets a standard rate of Rs. 1,000 and charges a share of it depending on category, residence and whether you give a PP number or Aadhaar number.
Applicant | With PP or Aadhaar number | Without |
|---|---|---|
Male general category or male child of an ex-serviceman (Haryana resident) | 50% of standard rate (Rs. 500) | Standard rate (Rs. 1,000) |
Women, ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities, SC, BC and EWS (Haryana resident) | 25% of standard rate (Rs. 250) | 50% of standard rate (Rs. 500) |
Non-residents of Haryana | 50% of standard rate (Rs. 500) | Standard rate (Rs. 1,000) |
The rupee figures are worked out from the policy table and are indicative. Confirm the exact amount on the registration portal, because the policy allows the Government to change the standard rate.

Common reasons for rejection
Missing language qualification: No Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject up to Matriculation.
Wrong age on the cut-off date: Under age or over age on the closing date.
Data mismatch: Details in the form that do not match the uploaded documents.
Missing certificates: A required category certificate was not uploaded.
Exam pattern
The CET for Group D is a single offline paper at Matriculation level. Full details are on the HSSC Group D exam pattern page.
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Mode | Offline, OMR based |
Questions | 100 multiple-choice questions, all compulsory |
Total marks | 100 |
Duration | 1 hour 45 minutes |
Language | Bilingual, English and Hindi |
Options | Four options, plus a fifth circle to mark when you do not attempt a question |
There is no negative marking for a wrong answer. But if you leave a question unattempted and do not fill the fifth circle, one mark is deducted for that question. Older pages may still show a different pattern, so follow the official advertisement.
What this means for you
Guess with care, not fear: A wrong answer costs nothing, so no question should be left to chance without at least an informed guess.
Fill the fifth circle: If you skip a question, mark the fifth circle, or you lose a mark.
Plan for speed: About one minute per question is available, and the paper is of Matriculation level.
Syllabus summary
The syllabus has two parts. Part A carries 75% weightage and covers General Awareness, Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, English and Hindi. Part B carries 25% weightage and covers the history, literature, geography, economy, polity, environment, culture and current affairs of Haryana. The detailed topic lists are on the HSSC Group D syllabus page.
Subject | Part | Important topics |
|---|---|---|
General Awareness | A | History, polity, art and culture, geography of India and neighbouring countries; general science |
Reasoning | A | Series, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions, syllogism, non-verbal reasoning |
Quantitative Ability | A | Number system, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, mensuration |
English Language | A | Grammar, error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, narration |
Hindi Language | A | Hindi grammar, vocabulary, idioms, proverbs, sandhi, samas, sentence correction |
General Knowledge of Haryana | B | History, literature, geography, economy, polity, culture, current affairs of Haryana |
Selection process
CET score: The CET score carries 100% weightage. There is no interview for Group D posts.
Qualifying marks: General category needs at least 50% and reserved categories at least 40%.
Merit list: The Commission publishes CET marks of qualified candidates on its website.
Post advertisements: As posts are advertised, you confirm your willingness online using your registration number.
Document scrutiny: Only the documents you uploaded are considered.
Recommendation: The Commission recommends names to the department.
If candidates tie on marks, the older candidate is placed higher. If the date of birth is also the same, the first name in alphabetical order decides. CET marks stay valid for three years from the date the result is declared.
Salary and career
The CET advertisement does not state pay. Pay and allowances depend on the post and the department that advertises it, and will be given in that post-wise advertisement. Check there rather than relying on figures quoted elsewhere.
How to prepare
Because the paper is Matriculation level and carries one mark per question, accuracy across all six subjects matters more than depth in one. Start with the Haryana section, since it carries the single largest share, and keep the other five subjects steady.
Weeks 1 to 4: Build basics in arithmetic, reasoning and Hindi and English grammar. Read about Haryana daily.
Weeks 5 to 8: Add general science, polity, geography and Haryana current affairs. Take topic-wise tests.
Weeks 9 to 12: Move to full-length OMR-style tests, review each one the same day and revise your error log.
Cut-off reference
Category | Minimum qualifying marks in the CET |
|---|---|
General | 50% |
Reserved (vertical and horizontal) | 40% |
These are qualifying minimums, not merit cut-offs for a post. The score needed to be shortlisted for a post depends on the vacancies and on how many candidates confirm willingness. Treat past figures as a benchmark only, and aim well above the minimum. See the HSSC Group D cut-off page for more.
