HSSC Group D Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification and Relaxation
HSSC Group D eligibility for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) rests on three things: a Matriculation certificate with Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject, an age between 18 and 42 years on the closing date, and valid certificates if you claim reservation. This page sets out each condition as stated in the Commission's Advertisement No. 05/2026.
The dates that matter for eligibility are the closing date of online registration, which was extended to 5 July 2026, and the issue dates of reservation certificates. If you want to know whether a certificate you hold is acceptable, check those dates first.

Condition | Requirement |
|---|---|
Qualification | Matriculation from a recognised board |
Language | Hindi or Sanskrit as one subject up to Matriculation (not for Sweeper, Chowkidar and Sweeper-cum-Chowkidar posts) |
Minimum age | 18 years on the closing date of registration |
Maximum age | 42 years on the closing date of registration, with relaxation |
Reservation benefit | Only for bonafide residents of Haryana |
Attempts | No limit on attempts in the CET written test |
Educational qualification
The essential qualification is Matriculation from a recognised board, with Hindi or Sanskrit as one of the subjects studied up to Matriculation. The language condition does not apply to Sweeper, Chowkidar and Sweeper-cum-Chowkidar posts.
The CET paper itself is set at Secondary Education level. The advertisement lists not having the essential qualification on the closing date as a likely cause of rejection, so check that your certificate names the subjects you studied.
The CET policy has a provision for applicants who are due to appear in the qualifying examination in the same year. They may sit the CET if they have reached the minimum age, but they are not considered for advertised posts until they have the qualification. This provision comes from the policy, and the 2026 advertisement lists missing qualification as a cause of rejection, so confirm your position with the Commission before relying on it.
Age limit and relaxation
You must be at least 18 years old and not more than 42 years old on the closing date of registration. Relaxation follows Haryana government instructions dated 25 March 2022.
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
Scheduled Castes | 5 years |
Backward Classes | 5 years |
Persons with benchmark disabilities | 10 years, plus 5 years if the applicant also belongs to SC, ST, BC or EWS, up to a maximum of 52 years |
Widowed or legally divorced women | 5 years |
Unmarried women | 5 years |
Wives of military personnel disabled in service | 5 years |
Judicially separated women (living separately for more than two years) | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen | Age reduced by military service plus up to three years of break, as per the rules |
Ad hoc, contract, work-charged or daily-wage employees of Haryana government bodies | Equal to completed years of service, up to a maximum of 52 years |
For categories other than ex-servicemen, the upper age limit with all relaxation put together cannot exceed 52 years. For experience-based relaxation, the experience counts only after you obtained the essential qualification, and the certificate must come from the competent authority in the Haryana department, board or corporation in the prescribed format.
Residence, reservation and certificates
Reservation benefits apply only to bonafide residents of Haryana. Reserved-category candidates from other states or union territories can compete only for posts meant for the general category and are treated as general category candidates.
Category | Certificate rule in the advertisement |
|---|---|
BC-A and BC-B (non-creamy layer) | Issued on or after 1 April 2026 and on or before the closing date |
EWS | Issued on or after 1 April 2026 and on or before the closing date, valid for Haryana |
DSC and OSC | Issued on or before the closing date, naming the sub-category |
Family members of ex-servicemen | Eligibility certificate issued or renewed on or after 20 June 2025 and on or before the closing date |
BC-A and BC-B candidates in the creamy layer are not entitled to reservation and are treated as general category candidates. Certificates made for Panchayati Raj elections or for central government jobs are not accepted. If the data in your form does not match your documents, you will be considered under the general category, provided you meet the general criteria.
Other conditions
Armed forces applicants: A person serving in the Armed Forces may apply with a no-objection certificate, if the service term will be completed within one year of the closing date.
One registration only: Multiple registrations lead to cancellation of candidature and a ban from the Commission's exams.
Disability and scribe: Candidates with benchmark disabilities can ask for a scribe in the application form, who must be educated up to Matriculation only, and they get 20 minutes of extra time per hour of the exam.
Recognised institutions: A degree or certificate from a body declared fake or not recognised is not accepted.
Who is not eligible
The advertisement lists these as likely causes of rejection:
More than one application: Submitting more than one form for the same post.
Incomplete form: An application that was incomplete or not submitted online.
No Hindi or Sanskrit: Not having studied Hindi or Sanskrit up to Matriculation, as required.
Qualification or age gaps: Not having the essential qualification, or being under age or over age, on the closing date.
Mismatch or missing papers: Differences between the form and the documents, or a required certificate not uploaded.
Fee and documents
The fee is paid online and is not refundable. Applicants who already applied in the CET for Group C under Advertisement No. 1/2025 did not need to pay again. The standard rate in the CET policy is Rs. 1,000 and a category-wise share of it is charged.
