IBPS RRB PO Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and Language Guide

IBPS RRB PO eligibility for 2026 rests on four conditions: a graduation degree, an age between 18 and 30 years, proficiency in the local language of the state you apply for, and nationality. These rules come from the CRP RRBs XV notification issued by IBPS on 01.09.2026 for Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager) in Regional Rural Banks.

Two dates fix your eligibility. Age is counted as on 01.09.2026, and your graduation result must be declared on or before 21.09.2026, the original last date of registration. This page explains each condition, the age relaxations by category, how percentage and CGPA are treated, the language rule state by state, and the common reasons candidates are found ineligible at the interview stage.

Educational Qualification

You need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a university or institution recognised by the Government of India or approved by a government regulatory body. Final-year students whose results came after 21.09.2026 are not eligible this cycle, even if they applied.

Preferred Disciplines

The notification gives preference, not a reservation or a bonus mark, to graduates in these fields:

  • Agriculture and allied: Agriculture, horticulture, forestry, animal husbandry, veterinary science, agricultural engineering, pisciculture, agricultural marketing and cooperation.

  • Professional fields: Information technology, management, law, economics and accountancy.

If you hold one of these degrees, use it in the interview by linking your subject to rural credit, farm finance or bank operations. Graduates from other disciplines are fully eligible and compete on the same exam.

Percentage and CGPA Rules

  • Enter percentage to two decimals: The online form asks for your graduation percentage calculated to the nearest two decimal places.

  • How to calculate: Divide total marks obtained in all subjects across all semesters or years by the aggregate maximum marks of all subjects, including honours, optional and additional optional subjects, and multiply by 100.

  • Fractions are ignored: 59.99 per cent is treated as less than 60 per cent.

  • CGPA or OGPA: Convert to percentage using your university's own norms and carry a certificate from the university stating the conversion method.

  • Date of passing: The date on your mark sheet or provisional certificate counts. For web-based results, you need a signed document from the university showing the date of passing.

Age Limit and Relaxation

For General and EWS candidates, you must be above 18 and below 30 years as on 01.09.2026. In date terms, you must be born between 02.09.1996 and 01.09.2008, both dates inclusive.

SC, ST and OBC relaxation can be combined with only one other relaxation category. The upper age limits in the third column are worked out from the notification's relaxation rules for illustration; check your own case against the official text. The relaxation for widows, divorced women and women legally separated from their husbands who have not remarried applies only to the Office Assistant post, not to Officer Scale I.

Local Language Proficiency

Proficiency in the local language is an essential qualification for Officer Scale I. You are treated as proficient if you studied the language of the state in Class VIII or above at a government-recognised board or school, or hold a certificate showing this. If you do not meet the requirement at selection, you get six months from joining to acquire proficiency. The RRB board can extend this, but not beyond the probation period.

Several states accept more than one language, which widens your options if you are bilingual. This rule shapes your state choice. You select one State/UT for provisional allotment in the application, and the choice cannot be changed. Applying to a state whose language you do not know means you must learn it within six months of joining, while working in rural branches where customers use that language every day.

Nationality and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: You must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries to settle in India. All except Indian citizens need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.

  • One officer post: You can apply for the Office Assistant post and one officer post, but only one of Scale I, II or III. More than one officer application leads to rejection.

  • Category certificates: OBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate in the central format issued on or after 01.04.2026. EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate valid for 2026-27, based on income for 2025-26.

  • Serving employees: If you work in a government office, public sector undertaking or nationalised bank, bring an unconditional No Objection Certificate from your employer to the interview.

  • Category is fixed: No change of category is allowed after the edit window closes.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Late results: Graduates whose result was declared after 21.09.2026.

  • Over age: Candidates born before 02.09.1996 without a valid relaxation category.

  • Creamy layer OBC: They must apply as General and get no OBC relaxation.

  • Multiple officer applications: Applications for more than one of Scale I, II and III are summarily rejected.

  • Missing proof at interview: Candidates who cannot produce original eligibility documents at the interview are not allowed to continue, whatever their Mains score.

  • Debarred candidates: Anyone debarred by IBPS from its exams for a specified period.

Eligibility is checked in detail only at the interview and again by the allotted RRB. Clearing the exams does not protect you if a document later fails. IBPS states that the RRB is the final recruiting authority and can reject any candidate allotted to it.

How to Check Your Eligibility Step by Step

  1. Check your date of birth: Compare it with the window 02.09.1996 to 01.09.2008, then add any relaxation you can prove with a valid certificate.

  2. Check your result date: Find the date on your final mark sheet or provisional certificate and confirm it is on or before 21.09.2026.

  3. Check your language: Confirm you studied the prescribed language of your target state in Class VIII or above, and locate the school certificate that shows it.

  4. Check your category documents: Make sure your OBC or EWS certificate is in the central government format and was issued within the valid period.

  5. Check your earlier applications: If you have applied for any other officer scale this cycle, only one officer application is valid.

If You Are in Your Final Year

Final-year students whose results were not declared by 21.09.2026 cannot use this cycle. IBPS has run the RRB process once a year, with notifications on 01.09.2025 and 01.09.2026, so plan for the next cycle and use the months in between to build Reasoning and Quant speed. Recheck the age window in the next notification, since it moves forward each year.
