IDBI Assistant Manager Exam Pattern 2026: Marking Scheme and Selection Process
The IDBI Assistant Manager exam pattern looks simple on paper: one online test, one interview. The details inside it are what decide your result. Sectional time limits, the marking rules, the cut-off system and the final score formula all shape how you should prepare.
Note for students: This post requires at least two years of permanent banking experience after graduation. If you are still in college or just graduating, understanding this pattern now will help you plan ahead. The sections are similar to the IBPS and SBI exams you are likely to take first.
IDBI Assistant Manager Selection Process
The selection process has four stages:
Stage | What happens | Nature |
|---|---|---|
1. Online Test (OT) | 200 objective questions in four timed sections | Qualifying and merit-deciding |
2. Document Verification (DV) | Checking of age, education, experience and category documents | Mandatory |
3. Personal Interview (PI) | 100-mark interview | Qualifying and merit-deciding |
4. Pre-Recruitment Medical Test (PRMT) | Medical fitness check as per the bank's standards | Mandatory |
Only the online test and the interview add marks to your final score. Document verification and the medical test are pass-or-fail stages, but failing either one ends your candidature.
IDBI Assistant Manager Online Test Pattern
Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Interpretation | 60 | 60 | 40 minutes |
English Language | 40 | 40 | 20 minutes |
Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 40 | 35 minutes |
General / Economy / Banking Awareness / Computer / IT | 60 | 60 | 25 minutes |
Total | 200 | 200 | 120 minutes |
Key Features of the Online Test
Mode: Online, with objective multiple-choice questions.
Marks: 200 questions for 200 marks, so each question carries one mark.
Sectional timing: Each section has its own fixed time within the total 120 minutes. You cannot carry unused time from one section to another.
Language: All sections except English Language are available in both English and Hindi.
Test date (2026-27 cycle): April 12, 2026, afternoon session (tentative as per the advertisement).
IDBI Assistant Manager Marking Scheme
This is where many websites get the pattern wrong.
Answer type | Marks |
|---|---|
Correct answer | +1 |
Wrong answer | 0 (no penalty) |
Unattempted question | 0 |
The official 2026-27 advertisement clearly states that there will be no penalty for wrong answers. Some preparation websites still show a 0.25-mark deduction, often copied from other bank exams. Always follow the official notification for your cycle, because rules can change.
What No Negative Marking Means in Practice
Attempt all 200 questions. A guess can gain a mark and cannot lose one.
Reserve the last minute of each section. Since sections close separately, mark answers for every remaining question before the timer ends.
Eliminate before you guess. Removing even one or two wrong options raises your chances on questions you are unsure about.
Common Myths vs the Official Pattern
What some websites say | What the official advertisement says |
|---|---|
0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer | No penalty for wrong answers |
160 minutes of exam time | 120 minutes in total |
Composite time for all sections | Sectional timings within the overall 120 minutes |
Assistant Manager and Junior Assistant Manager share one notification | Separate advertisements for each post |
Cut-off and Qualifying Rules
Rule Type | Scoring Mechanism | Operational Impact / Strategy |
|---|---|---|
Sectional Cut-off | Must achieve a minimum qualifying score in each of the four individual sections. | A high score in one section cannot compensate for a weak performance in another. Balanced preparation across all sections is mandatory. |
Overall Cut-off | Must achieve a minimum total score across all four sections combined. | Clearing all sectional cut-offs alone is not enough; your aggregate score must meet or exceed the total cutoff threshold. |
Shortlisting & Call for Interview | Cut-offs are set by the bank based on vacancies and category-wise performance. Candidates who clear both cut-offs are shortlisted in order of merit. | Reaching the minimum cut-offs makes you eligible, but higher marks increase your chances of being called for the interview within your category pool. |
Section-wise Time Strategy
The time per question varies a lot between sections. Plan each section differently.
Section | Time per question | Suggested approach |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning & DI | About 40 seconds | Start with quick single questions (inequality, syllogism, coding), then take up puzzle and DI sets. Do not get stuck on one hard set. |
English Language | About 30 seconds | Do grammar and vocabulary questions first, then the reading comprehension passage. |
Quantitative Aptitude | About 52 seconds | Clear simplification and number series fast, then spend the saved time on DI and arithmetic. |
General Awareness | About 25 seconds | Answer known questions in one fast pass, then mark the remaining ones with your best judgement. |
For a topic-wise breakdown of each section, see the IDBI Assistant Manager syllabus guide.
Personal Interview Pattern
Detail | Information |
|---|---|
Total marks | 100 |
Minimum qualifying marks | 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) |
Language | Hindi or English, as the candidate chooses |
Focus areas | Your qualifications and years of experience in the preferred areas are considered |
You must bring an original, detailed experience certificate in the bank's prescribed format. It must be on your employer's letterhead and signed by HR with contact details. Candidates without it may not be allowed to appear in the interview.
How the Final Score Is Calculated
IDBI Bank prepares the final merit list using this formula:
Final Score = 3/4 of Online Test Score + 1/4 of Interview Score
The online test carries three times the weight of the interview. Still, you must qualify both stages separately and rank high enough in the combined merit list to be selected.
Also note that the bank does not share online test scores with any candidate until the interview process is complete and the final merit list is prepared.
Special Provisions in the Exam
The advertisement includes support for eligible candidates:
Scribe facility: Visually impaired candidates and those whose writing speed is permanently affected can use their own scribe, subject to the bank's rules.
Compensatory time: Eligible candidates get 20 minutes for every hour of the exam.
Magnified font: Visually impaired candidates who do not use a scribe can view the test in a magnified font.
Pre-Examination Training (PET): The bank may conduct PET for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates who opt for it in the application form.
Exam Day Rules to Know
Call letter: You cannot enter the exam without it, and no duplicate call letters are issued.
Centre: You cannot change your exam centre after applying.
Biometric capture: Your thumb impression or iris scan and photograph are captured at the exam and verified at later stages. Keep your fingers clean and free of mehndi or ink.
Electronic devices: Carrying mobile phones or similar devices into the exam hall can lead to disqualification.
Answer pattern analysis: The bank may compare candidates' responses to detect copying, and it can cancel candidature if it finds shared answers.
How This Pattern Differs from Other Bank Exams
If you are preparing for IBPS or SBI exams, note these differences:
Single online test: There is no separate prelims and mains. One test decides your interview shortlist.
No negative marking: Many bank exams deduct marks for wrong answers. This one does not.
General Awareness counts from the start: GA carries 60 marks in the only written test.
Interview weight: The interview contributes one-fourth of your final score.
