What the Official Notification Says

IDBI Bank's advertisement lists the four section names, the questions, marks and time for each. It does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topics in this guide are the ones these sections usually cover in bank officer exams. Use them as your study map, and always check the notification for your cycle for any change in pattern.

The "time per question" column changes how you should study each section.

  • Reasoning and GA carry 60 marks each, together 60% of the paper.

  • General Awareness gives you only about 25 seconds per question. You either know the answer or you do not, so this section is won before exam day through revision.

  • Quantitative Aptitude gives you the most time per question, but DI sets and arithmetic word problems use it up quickly.

You must also clear a minimum score in every section and in the total, so no section can be skipped.

About negative marking: Several syllabus pages online mention a 0.25-mark penalty. The official 2026-27 Assistant Manager advertisement states that there will be no penalty for wrong answers. Attempt every question.

Section-wise IDBI Assistant Manager Syllabus

Each table marks topics as High, Medium or Low priority. High-priority topics usually appear in larger sets or carry more questions in bank officer exams. Start with them.

1. Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Interpretation (60 Marks)

This is the largest section. It tests both reasoning and data handling, so it rewards daily practice more than any other section.

Linear, circular and square arrangements

2. English Language (40 Marks)

You have just 20 minutes, so reading speed matters as much as grammar.

High

Banking awareness

RBI functions, monetary policy tools (repo, reverse repo, CRR, SLR), types of banks, NPAs, KYC, payment systems (UPI, NEFT, RTGS, IMPS), financial inclusion schemes

High

Economy

Union Budget, Economic Survey, GDP and inflation basics, fiscal and monetary policy, government schemes, regulators such as RBI, SEBI and IRDAI

Medium

Computer / IT

Computer fundamentals, MS Office, internet and networking, cyber security basics, database concepts, shortcut keys

Medium

2 topics + 1 editorial

5–8

High-priority sets: puzzles, arrangements, DI, RC, cloze test; banking awareness concepts

2 puzzle sets + 1 DI set + 20 GA questions

9–12

Full-length mocks with sectional timing, error analysis, revision of weak topics

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping General Awareness until the end. It carries 60 marks, and it cannot be crammed in the last week.

  • Practising without a timer. Every section closes on its own clock, so untimed practice gives a false picture of your level.

  • Ignoring low-priority topics completely. Cover them at a basic level. With no negative marking, even partial knowledge helps.

  • Using outdated pattern information. Check the official notification for the section structure and marking rules of your cycle.
