IDBI JAM 2026–27: Exam Pattern
The IDBI JAM exam pattern for regional Grade O recruitment 2026–27 consists of an online objective test followed by document verification, personal interview and medical-fitness checks. The online test has 200 questions for 200 marks in 120 minutes. Each of the four tests has a separate time allocation, which makes section-level practice necessary.
Use this guide to distinguish the written-test structure from the later selection stages. The total duration does not mean you can distribute two hours however you choose. Likewise, a good overall score does not remove the requirement to meet the bank’s sectional thresholds. Match every practice paper to the identified recruitment rather than relying on a generic JAM label.
Table of Contents
IDBI JAM selection stages at a glance
Stage | Nature | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Online test | 200-mark objective assessment | Written performance and shortlisting |
Document verification | Eligibility records | Validate the claims made in application |
Personal interview | 100 marks | Further assessment and combined merit |
Medical test | Bank fitness requirements | Appointment condition |
These stages have different functions. Document verification is not a bonus-mark opportunity; it establishes whether your application claims meet the notice. Medical fitness is also an appointment condition. Prepare for the scored stages while keeping the required evidence ready for the checks that follow.
Online examination structure
Test | Questions | Marks | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
Logical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Interpretation | 60 | 60 | 40 |
English Language | 40 | 40 | 20 |
Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 40 | 35 |
General/Economy/Banking Awareness/Computer/IT | 60 | 60 | 25 |
Total | 200 | 200 | 120 |
The non-English tests are available bilingually in English and Hindi. The English-language test is in English. Consult the examination handout and call letter for operating instructions and applicable accommodations. Do not assume an instruction from another bank’s interface applies to this test.
What the separate timers mean
The section allocations are 40 minutes for reasoning/DI, 20 for English, 35 for quantitative aptitude and 25 for awareness/computer/IT. These are individual test limits within the two-hour total. Your practice should reproduce them rather than allowing unused awareness time to rescue a slow quantitative section.
Test | Average time per question | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning/DI | 40 seconds | Sets require shared reading time; judge the whole set |
English | 30 seconds | Avoid repeated reading without a clear purpose |
Quantitative aptitude | 52.5 seconds | Select problems before committing to long calculations |
Awareness/IT | 25 seconds | Recall efficiently and avoid prolonged guessing |
The averages are arithmetic planning figures, not per-question restrictions or advice to attempt everything. A short question can take less time and a useful data set can take longer. The practical decision is whether the expected marks justify the remaining work under that section’s timer.
Marking scheme and wrong-answer penalty
For an incorrect answer, the bank deducts one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question. Since the notified table gives one mark per question, a wrong answer costs 0.25 mark in this pattern. An unanswered question carries no penalty. Apply the penalty when reviewing practice performance instead of counting only correct answers.
For example, 120 correct answers and 40 wrong answers produce a raw net practice score of 110: subtract 10 from 120. This example explains arithmetic only. It does not establish a qualifying score, a likely cut-off or a selection chance. A test result still needs to be read section by section.
Sectional and aggregate qualifying requirements
The advertisement requires a minimum score in each test as well as a minimum total score. The bank decides the applicable thresholds for zones and categories according to its recruitment requirements. Do not rely on a preparation page that says only an overall cut-off applies.
This changes how you allocate study time. Improving your strongest subject may raise the total while leaving the weakest subject below a required threshold. Track each test separately and reserve regular sessions for the weakest area. Your internal target should encourage balanced performance, but it must not be labelled an official sectional cut-off.
Personal interview and the final-score formula
The interview is for 100 marks. The notice specifies minimum interview marks of 50%, with 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates. Clearing an interview minimum alone does not ensure selection; a candidate must qualify in the online test and interview and rank sufficiently high in the combined merit process.
The advertisement states: Final Score = three-fourths of OT Score plus one-fourth of PI Score. It also provides for zone-wise merit lists. Follow this stated formula rather than substituting an unsupported 80:20 weighting from an older or generic guide. Do not independently add a scaling rule that the cited notice does not spell out.
As a purely illustrative application of the written formula, if the OT Score entered into it is 140 and the PI Score is 60, the calculation is 105 plus 15, giving 120. These invented input scores are an arithmetic example only. They are not published cut-offs, and the example does not predict how an individual candidate’s result will be displayed.
Document verification, language and medical fitness
Read the later DV/PI instructions in addition to the original advertisement. The bank asks candidates to substantiate educational percentage and regional-language requirements. Keep originals and the requested copies organised. A call letter is permission to attend the stage, not a declaration that every eligibility condition has already been finally accepted.
If your university reports grades, obtain the prescribed conversion rule or appropriate certification. If a document does not match the application, resolve the issue with the issuing authority and follow the bank’s instructions. Avoid depending on an informal assurance that a missing mandatory record can be submitted later. Medical fitness is assessed under bank standards.
Time management within the pattern
Read before calculating: Identify what is asked, the unit and any restriction. A ten-second interpretation check can prevent a much longer wrong solution.
Select sets deliberately: In reasoning and DI, estimate the representation and calculation work. Do not continue a confused set solely because you have already invested time.
Use a return plan: During practice, mark questions you can solve with a little more work and revisit them if the timer allows. Distinguish them from questions requiring an unknown concept.
Protect accuracy: Compare the marks gained from extra attempts with the penalty and time they cost. Review why a guess seemed justified, rather than treating every attempt as progress.
Turn a test result into a study plan
A total score tells you where you finished; it does not show what to do tomorrow. Review the paper once without a timer to distinguish missing knowledge from rushed decisions. For each wrong answer, write the cause in a few words: concept, calculation, reading, recall or guess. Review skipped questions separately; a solvable question left untouched often reveals poor selection rather than a weak topic.
Evidence in the result | Likely issue | Next action |
|---|---|---|
Accurate but too few attempts | Slow methods or excessive checking | Practise a small timed set and compare two valid methods |
Many attempts with frequent errors | Rushing or speculative guessing | Rework mistakes and use a stricter attempt rule |
One weak test despite a good total | Uneven preparation | Give the weak area a protected daily session |
Correct answers obtained very slowly | Fragile fluency | Retest after a gap without the solution |
Repeated awareness confusion | Unstructured recall | Create paired definitions and source-dated facts |
Track net marks, accuracy and time by section in a simple log. Compare papers of similar difficulty and format. A percentile from one practice platform is a practice measure, not IDBI’s category- or zone-wise rank. Improvement means fewer repeated mistakes and more reliable decisions, not merely a higher number of attempted questions.
Choose a pattern-matched practice paper
Check question counts, section timers, penalty and awareness coverage before using a mock. If a Testkart listing becomes available, inspect its actual description and sample solutions rather than assuming the exam name guarantees a matching simulator. A topic quiz is useful for concepts but does not replace a full simulation.
Use the IDBI JAM exam pattern as a checklist whenever the recruitment changes. Update the simulator configuration from the new official notice first, then adjust the study schedule. Testkart or any preparation resource should support that process; it cannot replace the bank’s instructions.
