Indian Army Agniveer
Indian Army Agniveer is a recruitment exam for the recruitment of Agniveers, relevant to candidates preparing for the armed forces and paramilitary recruitment.
Indian Army Agniveer recruitment is the Army's entry route for young men who want to serve under the Agnipath scheme. Selected candidates are enrolled as Agniveers for a four-year term, and the Army may retain up to 25 percent of each batch in the regular cadre afterwards. The latest notified cycle is the one for recruiting year 2027, announced in February 2026 through the Army Recruiting Offices (AROs).
This page gives you the whole picture in one place: the posts, dates, eligibility, selection stages, pay, and a preparation plan. It also tells you where details change by post, because General Duty, Technical, Clerk/Store Keeper Technical and Tradesman candidates do not follow identical rules. Use the sub-pages for depth on each topic.

Posts covered and how they differ
Every post uses the same recruitment framework, but the qualification, CEE subjects and physical standards differ. Always check the post you are applying for.
Agniveer (General Duty): the largest intake. Class 10 pass with 45 percent aggregate and at least 33 percent in each subject. Indian Gorkhas need a simple Class 10 pass.
Agniveer (Technical): Class 12 Science (Physics, Maths, English) with 50 percent, or ITI or diploma routes listed in the notification. The CEE leans on Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
Agniveer (Clerk/Store Keeper Technical): Class 12 in any stream with 60 percent aggregate and 50 percent in each subject. Typing and English matter here.
Agniveer (Tradesman): Class 10 pass or Class 8 pass, each with 33 percent in five basic subjects, depending on the trade. Candidates choose trades while applying.
Other posts, such as those for women candidates (for example Women Military Police) and some specialist categories, are announced separately. Check the portal for their notices, because this page covers the male-candidate notification.
A candidate may apply for up to two categories, with a separate form and a separate CEE for each. Only one rally and medical is held, for the category with the higher physical and medical standard.

Tentative dates come from the notification schedule and can change. Track the official recruitment page on joinindianarmy.nic.in and your registered email.
Vacancies
The Army announces vacancies by ARO and category, and the numbers change each year. Third-party sites have reported roughly 25,000 posts for the 2026-27 cycle, but the ARO notification we checked does not list a national total or a post-wise split. Treat any such figure as indicative, and check your own ARO's notice.
Eligibility in brief
Age limit
Candidates born between 1 July 2005 and 1 July 2009 (both dates included) were eligible in this cycle. Age is counted as 17.5 years on 1 January 2027 at the minimum and 22 years on 1 July 2027 at the maximum.
Qualification and other conditions
Marital status: only unmarried candidates can apply. Agniveers cannot marry during the four-year term.
Domicile: candidates apply to the ARO covering their district.
Result awaited: candidates waiting for Class 10, Class 12 or ITI results may apply, but are selected only if they show original mark sheets at the rally.
Physical standards: height requirements differ by region and post. For the southern plains region, the notification lists 166 cm for GD and Tradesman, 165 cm for Technical and 162 cm for Clerk/SKT, with a 77 cm chest and 5 cm expansion.
The Indian Army Agniveer eligibility page covers each post, the weight rules and the common disqualifiers in detail.
Application fee and how to apply
The fee is Rs. 250 per category, plus bank charges, payable by card, net banking or UPI. Apply only through the official portal.
Register and log in at joinindianarmy.nic.in and create your profile.
Check eligibility and choose the category, or two categories, with your priority.
Fill in the form with accurate height, qualification and Aadhaar details.
Choose five exam centres. Changes to centre or date are not entertained later.
Upload a recent photograph and pay the fee.
Download the admit card when it is released and carry a colour printout with your Aadhaar card.
Duplicate, incomplete or wrong applications are rejected. Wrong height or weight, or a false relaxation certificate, can cancel your candidature at the rally.
Selection process and exam pattern
Phase I: Online Common Entrance Exam
The CEE is an objective, computer-based test offered in 13 languages. The notification says it has either 50 questions in one hour or 100 questions in two hours, depending on the category. Correct answers earn full marks and unattempted questions earn nothing. The notification does not mention negative marking, so check your admit card instructions. Scores are normalised across sessions. Clerk/SKT candidates also take a typing test, with 30 words per minute in English desirable.
Phase II: Recruitment rally
Candidates shortlisted by a cut-off in the CEE, proportionate to vacancies, are called to the rally. It includes document verification, the Physical Fitness Test (1.6 km run, pull-ups, 9 ft ditch, zig-zag balance), the Physical Measurement Test and a medical examination by an Army medical team. Final selection is by merit, and bonus marks for NCC, sports and ITI or diploma qualifications count only at the final merit stage.
The Indian Army Agniveer exam pattern page explains each stage and what it means for your preparation. Older pages may still show previous-year patterns, so follow the official notification.
Syllabus summary
The Army does not publish a topic-wise CEE syllabus. It names the type of test, and the questions follow the level of the qualifying class for each post.
Post | CEE subjects (as reported) | Important areas |
|---|---|---|
General Duty | General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning | Arithmetic, Class 8 to 10 science, current affairs |
Technical | General Knowledge, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry | Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Maths |
Clerk/SKT | General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, English | English grammar and comprehension, basic computing |
Tradesman | General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics (indicative) | Class 8 to 10 basics |
The subject lists above come from published reports and the qualifying-class level, and the Tradesman row in particular is indicative. Use the Indian Army Agniveer syllabus page as a working checklist, not as an official list.
Salary, Seva Nidhi and service terms
Year | Monthly package | In hand (70%) | Agniveer corpus (30%) | Government contribution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
1st | Rs. 30,000 | Rs. 21,000 | Rs. 9,000 | Rs. 9,000 |
2nd | Rs. 33,000 | Rs. 23,100 | Rs. 9,900 | Rs. 9,900 |
3rd | Rs. 36,500 | Rs. 25,550 | Rs. 10,950 | Rs. 10,950 |
4th | Rs. 40,000 | Rs. 28,000 | Rs. 12,000 | Rs. 12,000 |
The notification lists these as approximate monthly figures. After four years, the Seva Nidhi exit payout is about Rs. 10.04 lakh excluding interest. Agniveers get a non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs. 48 lakh during service, 30 days of annual leave, and medical and canteen facilities. They are not eligible for gratuity, pension or ex-servicemen status.
How to prepare
Start with the stage that eliminates the most candidates: the CEE. Then build fitness in parallel, because the rally has strict timing for the run and a medical that you cannot prepare for in the last week.
Weeks 1 to 6: revise Class 8 to 10 Maths and science (Class 11 and 12 for Technical), and read one current-affairs source daily.
Weeks 4 to 10: start the 1.6 km run three to four days a week and add pull-up practice.
Weeks 7 to 12: take topic tests, then full-length online tests with a timer.
Final phase: attempt a full mock every few days, review every wrong answer the same day, and keep an error log.
Cut-off reference
Shortlisting for the rally depends on a cut-off in the CEE that is proportionate to the number of vacancies, and merit lists are published ARO-wise. A single national cut-off figure is not given in the notification. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. See the Indian Army Agniveer cut-off page for how to set your target.
For all notices, always rely on the official portal at joinindianarmy.nic.in, and be careful of touts: the notification states that no payment is needed at any stage.
