Indian Army Agniveer Eligibility 2026-27: Age, Qualification, Physical
Indian Army Agniveer eligibility is set separately for each post. Age, marital status and domicile rules are common, but the educational qualification and the minimum height differ between General Duty, Technical, Clerk/Store Keeper Technical (SKT) and Tradesman.
This page uses the Army Recruiting Office notification for recruiting year 2027, which opened registration on 13 February 2026. It covers the male-candidate categories. Women Military Police and some other posts are announced separately, so check the portal for those. Eligibility for the next cycle will be set in its own notification, so use this page as a guide until then.

Age limit
Age is counted as of two dates. The minimum is 17.5 years on 1 January 2027, and the maximum is 22 years on 1 July 2027. This works out to the date-of-birth window of 1 July 2005 to 1 July 2009. The notification we checked gives the same range for every post and does not include a category-wise age relaxation table.
These dates apply to the 2026-27 cycle. In a new cycle, the window will move, so recalculate your age from the next notification.

Result awaited
Candidates awaiting Class 10, Class 12, NIOS or ITI results may apply. They are selected only if they produce original mark sheets at the rally, so do not apply without a realistic chance of passing.
Physical standards
Height standards depend on the region of your ARO and on the post. The table shows the values the notification lists for the southern plains region (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana). Other regions, such as hills and the North East, have different standards, so use your own ARO's notice.
Post | Minimum height (southern plains) | Chest |
|---|---|---|
General Duty, Tradesman (10th and 8th pass) | 166 cm | 77 cm with 5 cm expansion |
Technical | 165 cm | 77 cm with 5 cm expansion |
Clerk/SKT | 162 cm | 77 cm with 5 cm expansion |
Weight: must be proportionate to height as per the weight chart in the notification, which also depends on whether you are 17 to 20 years or 20 to 30 years old.
Tribal candidates: for recognised tribal areas, the notification lists a height of 162 cm, chest of 77 cm and minimum weight of 47.2 kg.
Outstanding sportsmen: small relaxations in height, chest and weight are listed.
Tattoos: religious tattoos are permitted only on the inner forearm and the back of the hand. Tribal tattoos need certificates.
Enter your height accurately when you apply. Wrong height or weight can cancel your candidature at the rally.
Other conditions
Unmarried status: you must be unmarried at the time of applying, and Agniveers who marry during the four-year term are released.
Domicile: the sample ARO notification we checked requires domicile in the districts it covers. Apply to the ARO for your own district.
One rally per district: only one rally per district per recruiting year is permitted.
Two categories: you may apply for two, but only one rally and medical is held, for the category with the higher physical and medical standard.
Clerk/SKT centres: candidates choose only exam centres that have a typing test.
