JIPMER Eligibility Criteria 2027

JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research), Puducherry, admits students to MBBS, nursing, allied health, postgraduate and research programmes every year. Because JIPMER stopped its own MBBS entrance after 2019, the JIPMER eligibility criteria now depend on the route you take: NEET UG for MBBS and undergraduate courses, INI CET for MD, MS and MDS, and JIPMER's own entrance test for MSc, MPH, diploma, fellowship and PhD programmes.

This guide explains who can apply in the 2027 admission cycle for each route. It covers the minimum qualification, Class 12 or degree marks, age limit, NEET UG and INI CET qualifying percentiles, nationality and domicile rules, and the documents you should keep ready. Key dates that affect eligibility, such as the internship deadline for INI CET, are flagged in each section.

The MBBS conditions follow the NEET UG framework used in 2026, and NTA will confirm the 2027 rules in its next information bulletin. Course-specific conditions for nursing, allied health and JIPMER-run programmes come from JIPMER's own prospectus for each cycle.

JIPMER MBBS Eligibility (NEET UG)

To get an MBBS seat at JIPMER Puducherry or JIPMER Karaikal, you must first be eligible for NEET UG, then qualify it, and then meet the counselling rules for the seat category you are applying under.

Educational Qualification

  • Class 12 or equivalent: Passed from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English as subjects.

  • Practical components: Science subjects should have been studied with practical tests, as required under NMC regulations.

  • Appearing candidates: Students in Class 12 can sit NEET UG 2027, but they must pass with the required marks before admission.

  • Improvement candidates: If you improve your Class 12 marks, the eligibility check uses the rules stated in the NEET bulletin for that year.

40th percentile

The qualifying percentile only makes you eligible for counselling. It is far below the rank usually needed for a JIPMER seat, which is among the most competitive choices in all-India counselling. Treat qualifying as the first step, not the target.

Age Limit

You must be at least 17 years old on 31 December 2027. In other words, candidates born on or before 31 December 2010 meet the lower age limit. There is no upper age limit for NEET UG, and there is no cap on the number of attempts.

Nationality and Domicile

  • Indian nationals: Eligible for all-India seats through counselling.

  • NRIs, OCI cardholders and foreign nationals: Can appear in NEET UG, but the seats they can claim depend on current counselling rules. Check the NEET bulletin and counselling information for your category.

  • Puducherry domicile seats: A share of JIPMER MBBS seats is reserved for candidates domiciled in the Union Territory of Puducherry. You need a valid domicile certificate in the format JIPMER specifies.

B.Sc Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Eligibility

JIPMER admits students to B.Sc Nursing and B.Sc Allied Health Sciences on the basis of NEET UG scores, through its own application and counselling. You therefore need a valid NEET UG score in addition to the course conditions below.

B.Sc Nursing

  • Qualification: Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

  • Minimum marks: A minimum aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as set in the JIPMER prospectus, with relaxation for reserved categories.

  • Age: At least 17 years on 31 December of the admission year.

  • NEET UG: A valid score from the same year's NEET UG.

  • Seat distribution: Seats may be divided between female and male candidates and across categories, as listed in the prospectus.

  • Medical fitness: Selected candidates must clear the medical examination prescribed by JIPMER.

B.Sc Allied Health Sciences

  • Qualification: Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Some courses may have extra subject conditions.

  • Minimum marks and age: As notified in the JIPMER prospectus for that year.

  • NEET UG: A valid score, since merit is drawn from NEET UG performance.

Minimum marks for these courses are set by JIPMER and can differ from MBBS thresholds. Confirm the current figures in the prospectus before you apply.

JIPMER PG Eligibility (INI CET and INI SS)

JIPMER's MD, MS and MDS seats are filled through INI CET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi for the January and July sessions. Registration for the January 2027 session closes on 13 October 2026, and the exam is scheduled for 1 November 2026.

MD and MS

  • Degree: MBBS from a college recognised by the National Medical Commission.

  • Minimum marks: 55% aggregate in MBBS for General, OBC and EWS candidates, and 50% for SC and ST candidates.

  • Internship: The one-year compulsory rotatory internship must be completed by the cut-off date in the prospectus. For the January 2027 session, this is reported as 31 January 2027.

  • Registration: Permanent or provisional registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council, as required by the prospectus.

  • Foreign medical graduates: Must meet NMC requirements for registration in India, including the screening test where it applies.

MDS

Candidates need a BDS degree from a college recognised by the Dental Council of India, with the internship completed by the cut-off date and registration with the dental council.

Written test and interview or viva-voce

JIPMER released its 2026 prospectus for MSc, MPH, PBD, PGD and PGF courses earlier this year. The 2027 cycle will follow a fresh prospectus, so do not assume last year's conditions will carry over unchanged.

Who Is Not Eligible

Most applications are rejected for avoidable reasons. Check these before you pay any fee.

  • Missing a core subject: Class 12 without Biology or English does not meet MBBS or nursing requirements, even with high marks in other subjects.

  • Below the minimum aggregate: The 50% or 40% Class 12 threshold is calculated on Physics, Chemistry and Biology together, not on your overall percentage.

  • Below the NEET qualifying percentile: Without it, you cannot take part in counselling for any JIPMER undergraduate seat.

  • Under-age candidates: If you turn 17 after 31 December of the admission year, you are not eligible that year.

  • Late internship completion: For INI CET, finishing the internship after the prospectus deadline makes you ineligible for that session.

  • Invalid domicile proof: A certificate in the wrong format, or from the wrong authority, can cost you a Puducherry domicile seat.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Academic records: Class 10 certificate for date of birth, Class 12 marksheet, and degree and internship certificates for PG and JIPMER-run courses.

  • Entrance results: NEET UG scorecard, INI CET or INI SS rank letter, or JIPMER entrance admit card and result.

  • Category and domicile certificates: SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS and PwBD certificates in the prescribed format, and a Puducherry domicile certificate if applicable.

  • Registration certificate: NMC, State Medical Council, dental council or nursing council registration for PG and post-basic courses.

  • Identity proof and photographs: As specified in the application instructions.

How to Check Your Eligibility Step by Step

  1. Pick your course and route: MBBS, nursing and allied health go through NEET UG; MD, MS and MDS through INI CET; MSc, MPH and similar courses through the JIPMER entrance test.

  2. Match your qualification: Confirm your subjects and calculate your aggregate exactly as the bulletin or prospectus defines it.

  3. Check the date-based conditions: Age on 31 December for undergraduate courses, and the internship deadline for INI CET.

  4. Confirm category and domicile documents: Arrange certificates early, because issuing authorities can take weeks.

  5. Read the official document for your cycle: Use the NEET UG information bulletin, the INI CET prospectus on the AIIMS examinations portal, or the course prospectus on the official JIPMER website.

Older pages may still describe eligibility for the discontinued JIPMER MBBS entrance exam. Those rules no longer apply, so always follow the latest bulletin or prospectus for your admission cycle.
