JSSC Grade A Nurse Eligibility: Qualification, Experience and Age Limit
JSSC Grade A Nurse eligibility rests on four things: a recognised nursing qualification, nursing council registration, hospital experience and an age within the stated band. Meeting only some of these is not enough, because document verification checks all of them against originals.
The rules below follow the 2022 Grade A Nurse cycle, the latest full cycle we could confirm through published reports. Cut-off dates, such as the date used to calculate age, are fixed in each advertisement, so use this page to understand the structure and then check the same points in the current notification.
Table of Contents

Educational qualification
A candidate must hold one of the following from a recognised university, institution or board:
B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing or B.Sc Nursing: including the Post Basic B.Sc Nursing route.
Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery: commonly called GNM.
The degree or diploma should be recognised by the Indian Nursing Council or the relevant State Nursing Council. If your course was completed through a private institute, keep proof of recognition ready. Courses such as ANM alone were not listed for this post.
Nursing council registration
Registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with the State or Indian Nursing Council was reported as essential. Check that your registration is valid and that the name and date of birth match your other documents. You can read about registration on the Indian Nursing Council website.
Work experience
The 2022 cycle asked for two years of experience in a hospital with at least 50 beds. Two details matter:
Timing: the experience should be gained after you obtained the essential qualification and registration.
Proof: the certificate should come from the hospital and should mention bed strength, designation and exact period of service.
Internships and training periods may not count. If you are unsure, read the experience clause of the current advertisement before applying.
Age limit and relaxation
The age band reported for 2022 was 18 to 35 years, calculated as on 31 March 2021. The upper limit rises for specific groups, as shown below.
Category | Maximum age reported |
|---|---|
Unreserved and EWS (male) | 35 years |
EBC (Schedule 1) and BC (Schedule 2), male | 37 years |
Women of general, EWS, EBC and BC categories | 38 years |
SC and ST, male and female | 40 years |
Some sources present these figures as relaxation and some as the final upper age. Since the figures are consistent as upper limits, treat them that way, and confirm in the notification whether any extra relaxation applies, for example to persons with disability or government employees. To claim relaxation you need a date-of-birth proof and a valid category certificate.
Nationality, domicile and attempts
Nationality: candidates must be Indian citizens.
Domicile: Jharkhand residents were encouraged to apply, but the reports we reviewed do not make domicile mandatory. Some benefits, such as the lower fee for SC/ST candidates, applied to Jharkhand residents.
Attempts: no limit on attempts was reported. You can apply in each cycle until you cross the upper age limit.
Who may be rejected
Candidates whose experience is from a hospital with fewer than 50 beds or is not supported by a proper certificate.
Those without valid council registration on the verification date.
Applicants whose age falls outside the band after the date calculation.
Candidates with a category certificate that is outdated or not in the prescribed format.
Documents to keep ready
Keep your matriculation certificate for date of birth, nursing degree or diploma, mark sheets, council registration, experience certificate, category and domicile certificates, photograph and signature. A full overview of fees and steps to apply is on the exam overview page, and the paper structure is on the exam pattern page.
