JSSC Grade A Nurse Syllabus: Topic-wise Checklist

The JSSC Grade A Nurse syllabus covers the community, maternal, child and public-health side of nursing. There is one paper, so every area is tested together and none can be skipped without cost. This page lists the six areas, the topics usually studied under each, and a plan for covering them.

The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission names the paper as nursing-related subjects but does not publish a detailed topic-wise syllabus in the material we reviewed. The topic lists below are built from published exam guides and past-paper coverage. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list, and compare them with the syllabus in the latest notification once it is released.

  • Community work: community structure, dynamics, need assessment and methods and media for health education.

  • Health team: role of the nurse, counselling and community-based rehabilitation.

  • Policies and problems: health problems of rural communities and related policies.

2. Health Promotion

  • Nutrition: nutrients, balanced diet and common deficiencies.

3. Primary Health Care

  • Nutrition: infant and child feeding.

  • School health and rights: school child care, children's rights and care of adolescent girls.

  • Sick child: common childhood illnesses and nursing management.

5. Midwifery

This is the broadest area and deserves the most study time.

Social aspects

Where to start

Begin with Midwifery and Primary Health Care. Their topic lists are long and heavily factual, so repeated revision pays off. Move to Community Health Nursing next, then Child Health Nursing. Health Promotion and Health Centre Management are shorter and can be covered alongside the larger areas. We have not seen an official weightage by area, so do not drop any of the six.

Is there a syllabus for the document verification stage?

No. Document verification checks your certificates, nursing council registration, experience proof and category documents. It carries no syllabus and no marks in the process reported for 2022, so your preparation time belongs to the written paper.

Phased plan to cover the syllabus

  1. Weeks 1 to 4: first pass through Midwifery, Primary Health Care and Community Health Nursing. Make short notes after each topic.

  2. Weeks 5 to 6: complete Child Health Nursing, Health Promotion and Health Centre Management.

  3. Weeks 7 to 8: attempt topic-wise tests and previous questions. Maintain an error log of wrong answers.

  4. Final weeks: full-length papers in 120 minutes, same-day analysis and revision of the error log.
