KVS Librarian Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Fee

To be eligible for the KVS Librarian post, you need a Bachelor's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science with at least 50 percent marks, working knowledge of computer applications, and an age of not more than 35 years on the stated cut-off date. CTET is not required.

This page is based on the detailed Notification 01/2025 issued by CBSE for KVS and NVS and its corrigenda. The registration window for this cycle has closed, but eligibility rules like these usually carry over to the next Librarian recruitment, so read this as both a current check and a planning guide. Always confirm against the next notification.

Educational qualification

The notification lists three essential requirements for Librarian.

  1. Degree: A Bachelor's degree in Library Science, or a Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, from a recognised institution.

  2. Marks: At least 50 percent marks in that degree.

  3. Skills: Knowledge of computer applications, and working knowledge of Hindi and English.

Points that confuse candidates

  • B.Lib, BLISc and BLIS: These are common names of the bachelor's course in library science. The notification names the qualification as a Bachelor's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science, so check that your degree certificate carries one of those titles.

  • Marks requirement: The rule is 50 percent in the library science degree. If your university gives grades or CGPA, get an official conversion certificate before document verification.

  • Master's degree: An M.Lib or MLISc is not named as an essential requirement. It does not replace the bachelor's degree, and the notification does not list it as an alternative.

  • Qualification date: The notification fixed 4 December 2025 as the eligibility cut-off date. CBSE later issued a public notice on a qualification date extension. We could not read its terms, so check that notice on the CBSE recruitment page if your result came close to the date.

  • Corrigendum 2: CBSE's qualification corrigendum of December 2025 changed the rules for several posts, but it does not mention Librarian. Corrigendum 3 states that all other details of the notification remain the same.

Age limit and relaxation

The upper age limit for Librarian is 35 years, and the minimum is 18 years. Age is counted as per the date given in the notification. Relaxation is added to the upper limit as per the notification, as shown below.

Category

Upper age relaxation

Concessions are not cumulative. If you qualify under more than one, only the highest applies. The women's concession does not apply to women with disabilities, who use the PwBD concession.

Worked example

A woman candidate from the General category has an upper limit of 35 plus 10, which is 45 years. An OBC (NCL) male candidate has 35 plus 3, which is 38 years. These examples use the notification's rules for this cycle and are not a substitute for reading your own category line in the notice.

Language, documents and other conditions

  • Contact details: You need a valid personal email ID and mobile number, since communication and the admit card go through your registered login.

  • Language: Working knowledge of both Hindi and English is an essential requirement. The Tier-1 paper also has a language test in English and one other modern Indian language.

  • Computer knowledge: The Tier-1 paper tests basic computer literacy, so build this skill early.

  • Category certificates: OBC (NCL) certificates must have been issued between 1 January 2025 and the last date of application, and EWS candidates need a valid income and asset certificate as on the closing date.

  • Medical and physical: A medical examination is part of the final stage. For PwBD candidates, the notification has a functional requirements table that lists suitable disability types for the Librarian post.

  • Exam city: Tier-1 centres are allotted on the basis of application numbers. The Delhi and NCR centre rule in the notification applies to other posts, not to Librarian.

Read the general conditions of the notification in the original text, since they apply to every post.

Who is not eligible

  • Holders of a different degree: A bachelor's degree in another subject, even with a high percentage, does not meet the requirement.

  • Below 50 percent: A library science degree with less than 50 percent marks does not meet the requirement.

  • Over the age limit: Candidates above 35 years without a valid relaxation category.

  • Incomplete or mismatched documents: A name, date of birth or category that does not match the certificates can lead to rejection at document verification.

  • Result awaited after the cut-off: A library science degree not completed by the stated date, subject to any extension notice from CBSE.
