KVS Librarian Study Notes: Library Science and Tier 1 Revision
Build short, revisable KVS Librarian notes for library science and Tier 1 sections, with a simple revision plan.
Good KVS Librarian study notes are short, organised by unit and written so you can revise them in the last weeks. With Tier 2 carrying 85 percent of final merit under Notification 01/2025, your notes should lean towards library and information science, with compact notes for the Tier-1 general sections.
What to include in your notes
Section | What to note down |
|---|---|
Foundations of LIS | Library types, Ranganathan's five laws, library acts, associations, committees |
Knowledge organisation | Classification schemes, cataloguing codes, MARC, subject headings, indexing methods |
Information technology | Library software, barcodes and RFID, digital libraries, databases |
Library management | Acquisition, circulation, stock verification, weeding, budgeting, staffing |
Sources and services | Reference sources by type, library services, user education |
Tier-1 sections | Reasoning shortcuts, arithmetic formulas, computer terms, monthly current affairs, grammar rules |
The official Tier-2 syllabus document is on the KVS and NVS websites. Compare your headings with it once: https://kvsangathan.nic.in/
How to organise your notes
One page per topic: Write the definition, key points and one example, so revision is quick.
Comparison tables: Put similar items side by side, for example classification schemes by author, year and basis.
Formula and shortcut sheet: Keep one sheet for numeric ability and reasoning.
Error log: Record each mistake from mock tests with the correct answer and why you missed it.
Current affairs notes: Keep monthly notes, including education and library news.
Revision schedule
Within 24 hours: Re-read the notes you made today.
Weekly: Revise the week's units and re-attempt wrong mock questions.
Last month: Revise your short notes and error log, not the full textbooks.
Where notes fit with practice
Notes help you remember, and tests show whether you can apply what you remember. After each unit, take a short test, and add missed points to your notes.
