KVS Senior Secretariat Assistant Exam Pattern 2025: Tier 1 and Tier 2

The KVS Senior Secretariat Assistant exam pattern for the 2025 cycle has two written stages. Tier 1 is an OMR-based screening test of 100 questions for 300 marks. Tier 2 is a subject knowledge paper of 70 questions for 100 marks, combining objective and descriptive questions. CBSE conducted both tiers for KVS under Recruitment Notification 01/2025.

The biggest change from the older single-test pattern is that only Tier 2 marks count for the final merit. Tier 1 decides who gets to Tier 2. This page breaks down each tier, the marking scheme, what the numbers mean for your time and effort, and how the merit list is built.

In Tier 1, darkening more than one circle for a question counts as a wrong answer. Neither tier allows re-evaluation.

What the KVS SSA Pattern Means for You

  • Tier 1 rewards accuracy: A wrong answer costs one third of a correct one. A blind guess among four options roughly breaks even, so guess only when you can rule out at least one option.

  • Tier 1 has time to spare: 100 questions in 120 minutes gives you about 72 seconds per question. Finish language and GK fast to bank time for reasoning and numeric ability.

  • Tier 2 is where selection happens: Each descriptive question carries about 4 marks, four times an objective one. Ten well-structured answers can decide your rank.

  • Rules knowledge must be exact: Objective questions on leave, pension or pay fixation often turn on one number or condition, so revise from the primary rules.

Final Merit Calculation

For Senior Secretariat Assistant, the final merit list is prepared on Tier 2 marks alone. The 85:15 weightage of Tier 2 and interview that applies to some other posts in the notification does not apply to SSA, because there is no interview.

Example: two candidates score 240 and 180 in Tier 1, and both are shortlisted. In Tier 2, the first scores 58 and the second scores 64. The second candidate ranks higher, because Tier 1 marks are not carried forward.

After the Tier 2 result, the remaining steps are preference submission where applicable and document verification by KVS.

Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy

  1. Tier 1 first pass (about 70 minutes): Attempt every question you are sure of, in the order language, GK, computer, reasoning, numeric ability.

  2. Tier 1 second pass (about 40 minutes): Return to marked questions in reasoning and numeric ability.

  3. Tier 1 last 10 minutes: Check OMR bubbling and leave genuine guesses blank.

  4. Tier 2 split: A practical split is about 50 minutes for the 60 objective questions and about 90 minutes for the 10 descriptive answers, with 10 minutes to review.

  5. Descriptive answers: Cite the rule, state the condition, then give a short example or calculation where it fits

Older Pattern Warning

The 2022-23 SSA recruitment (Advertisement 15/2022) used a single computer-based test conducted by KVS. Older pages may still show that pattern, so follow the 2025 notification and the scheme published on the CBSE recruitment page.
