Life Insurance Corporation Apprentice Development Officer
Recruitment exam for LIC ADO posts
LIC ADO is the recruitment for Apprentice Development Officer at the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). A Development Officer builds and manages a team of insurance agents in a branch area and is responsible for new business, so the role is closer to field sales and team leadership than to desk work. This page explains the LIC ADO 2026 cycle in one place: where the notification stands, who can apply, how selection works and how to prepare.
As of 21 October 2026, Testkart has not found an official LIC notification for the 2026 cycle, and no application or exam dates are confirmed. The last full recruitment ran in 2023 with 9,394 vacancies, so this page uses the 2023 cycle as a reference and marks every figure that may change. Always confirm the final details on the official LIC website once the notice is out.

Notification Status and Latest Update
LIC recruits ADOs zone by zone and publishes a separate employment notice for each zonal office. For 2023, the notices were issued under the 2022-23 recruitment cycle, and you can see how those zonal notices are laid out on the North Zonal Office notice.
Several coaching websites currently expect a 2026 notification and quote different months for it. None of these is an official announcement, so do not plan your dates around them. Keep your degree documents, category certificate and photograph ready, and check the LIC careers section regularly.
Older pages may still show 2023 dates, fees or vacancy numbers as if they were current, so follow the official notification for the cycle you are applying to.
LIC ADO Important Dates

LIC ADO Vacancy Details
The vacancy count for 2026 has not been announced. The table shows the zone-wise split of the 2023 cycle so you can see how posts were spread. These figures are indicative only; the new notification may use different zones and numbers.

Because vacancies are declared zone-wise and category-wise, your competition is the pool of applicants in your chosen zone and category, not the national total.
LIC ADO Eligibility Summary
Educational qualification
In the 2023 cycle, a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university was required. Candidates holding the Fellowship of the Insurance Institute of India were also reported as eligible. Check the new notice for the date by which you must have the degree result.
Age limit
The age range was 21 to 30 years on the cut-off date given in the notice. Upper-age relaxation applies to reserved categories and to certain LIC employees, agents and ex-servicemen.
Category | Upper age limit (2023 cycle, reported) |
|---|---|
General | 30 years |
OBC | 33 years (3 years relaxation) |
SC and ST | 35 years (5 years relaxation) |
LIC employees, agents and ex-servicemen | Higher limits set by category and service in the notice |
Experience and categories
Applicants usually come through three routes: open market, LIC agents and LIC employees. Employees and agents had service or business conditions, while open-market candidates were reported to get preference for life insurance experience of about two years. Read the exact conditions for your route in the notice. Our LIC ADO eligibility guide goes through each condition.
Application Fee and How to Apply
For 2023, the fee was reported as Rs. 750 for General, OBC and EWS candidates and Rs. 50 for SC and ST candidates, although some websites quote different amounts. Treat these as indicative until the new notice confirms the fee, whether taxes are included and which payment modes are accepted.
Open the careers section of the LIC website and find the ADO notice for your zone.
Read the notice fully, including the zone, category and experience conditions.
Register with a working mobile number and email address.
Fill in personal, educational and category details exactly as on your documents.
Upload the photograph, signature and any other documents in the format asked.
Pay the fee online, then save or print the confirmation.
Common reasons for rejection include applying to the wrong zone, entering category details that do not match the certificate, and uploading unreadable scans. Make the corrections before the last date, because the form usually cannot be edited after final submission.
LIC ADO Selection Process
Prelims: an online objective test, meant for open-market candidates in the 2023 cycle. English was qualifying in nature.
Mains: an online objective test. Marks here decide who is called for the interview.
Interview: a personal interview, reported as carrying about 40 marks (some sources say 37).
Final merit: prepared from Mains and interview marks, as reported for 2023.
Medical examination: a pre-recruitment medical for the shortlisted candidates.
Whether agents and employees skip the Prelims, how many candidates are called for Mains and the minimum qualifying marks are all set in the notice, so confirm them for the 2026 cycle.
LIC ADO Exam Pattern Summary
Prelims (open market, 2023 pattern)
Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
English Language (qualifying) | 30 | Not counted for ranking | 20 minutes |
Mains (open market, 2023 pattern)
Test | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning and Numerical Ability | 50 | 50 |
General Knowledge, Current Affairs and English | 50 | 50 |
Insurance and Financial Marketing Awareness | 60 | 60 |
Total | 160 | 160 |
The Mains was reported as a single 120-minute paper. Agents and employees were reported to have a different Mains layout, so check the table for your route in the notice. The negative-marking rule is not confirmed from an official source here. Our LIC ADO exam pattern page has the full breakdown.
What this means for you: the Prelims reward speed in Reasoning and Numerical Ability, because those two sections decide your rank. The Mains then adds a 60-mark insurance and financial awareness section, which is where prepared candidates gain an edge over those who only practise aptitude.
LIC ADO Syllabus Summary
LIC names the tests but, as far as we could confirm, does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The table is a working checklist built from the test names and from the types of questions asked in earlier cycles. It is not an official list.
Subject | Stage | Important topics |
|---|---|---|
Reasoning Ability | Prelims, Mains | Puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism, inequality, coding-decoding, blood relations |
Numerical Ability | Prelims, Mains | Data interpretation, number series, simplification, percentages, ratio, time and work |
English Language | Prelims, Mains | Reading comprehension, cloze test, error spotting, sentence improvement |
General Awareness | Mains | Current affairs, economy and banking news, static GK |
Insurance and Financial Marketing | Mains | Insurance principles, IRDAI, LIC products, financial markets, sales and marketing basics |
See the detailed LIC ADO syllabus for topic-wise checklists.
LIC ADO Salary and Career Growth
Sources report that a Development Officer starts on a basic pay of about Rs. 35,650 a month, with total emoluments of around Rs. 56,000 in an A-class city once allowances are added. These are reported figures, not official numbers for 2026, and in-hand pay varies with city and allowances. Some pages quote different starting pay, so rely on the notification.
The terms of the apprenticeship, including its duration, any stipend and the service conditions, were not verified from an official source. Read them in the notice before you apply. Development Officers are also paid performance-linked incentives and can move up to higher sales and branch-management roles over time.
How to Prepare for LIC ADO
Start with the Prelims core: build speed in puzzles, data interpretation and arithmetic, because these two tests drive your rank.
Add insurance awareness early: read about insurance basics, regulation and LIC products in short notes, since the Mains gives this section the largest share of questions.
Follow current affairs daily: spend 30 to 40 minutes a day and make monthly notes focused on the economy, banking and insurance.
Keep English steady: it is qualifying in Prelims, so aim to clear it comfortably rather than chase extra marks.
Prepare for the interview: practise explaining why you want a sales and team-building role.
LIC ADO Cut-Off Reference
LIC releases results with category-wise cut-offs, and they differ by zone. We could not verify any official figures here, and the numbers circulating online are labelled expected or trend-based, so we do not quote them. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat past figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. The LIC ADO cut-off page explains how to set a realistic target.
