MAH MBA CET Exam Pattern 2027: Marks and Timing

The MAH MBA CET exam pattern is a single online paper of 200 multiple-choice questions to be solved in 150 minutes, with one mark per question and no negative marking. The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, sets this format in its information brochure, and it applied to both attempts of the 2026 cycle. The 2027 brochure has not been released yet, but nothing official points to a change.

This page explains the section-wise pattern, the marking scheme, how the two attempts and percentile scores work, and, most importantly, what the numbers mean for your time management. With an average of 45 seconds per question, the way you divide your time matters as much as how much you know.

Key Changes to Know

  • Two attempts from 2026: The 2026 cycle introduced a second attempt in the same admission year, with the better percentile used for admission.

  • Fee linked to attempts: Candidates pay for one attempt or both at registration, so the attempt decision is made early.

  • Identity checks through DigiLocker: Aadhaar and APAAR ID details were verified through DigiLocker in 2026, and candidates without an APAAR ID were asked to generate one.

  • Paper format unchanged: The 200-question structure, the four sections and the absence of negative marking stayed the same.

Section-wise Exam Pattern

Sectional Timing

The brochure gives one duration for the whole paper and does not prescribe separate timers for each section. Candidates from previous cycles report that they could move between sections and questions freely. Confirm this in the instructions shown before your test begins, because the on-screen instructions are what apply on the day.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

  • Correct answer: One mark.

  • Wrong answer: No deduction. The brochure states clearly that there is no negative marking.

  • Unattempted question: Zero marks.

Because a wrong answer costs nothing, an unattempted question is always a lost chance. Before time runs out, mark an answer for every question you have not solved. With five options, a random mark still has a one-in-five chance of being right, and eliminating even one or two options improves those odds.

What the Pattern Means for You

Turning the numbers into strategy is where most students gain or lose marks.

  • 45 seconds per question on average: 150 minutes for 200 questions leaves no room for long calculations. Quick questions must be solved in 20 to 30 seconds to buy time for puzzles and data sets.

  • Reasoning decides the rank: Logical and Abstract Reasoning together carry 100 marks. A strong reasoning score can offset an average Quantitative Aptitude score.

  • All marks are equal: A one-line synonym question is worth the same as a lengthy puzzle question. Pick easy marks first and leave lengthy sets for later.

  • Accuracy still matters: No negative marking does not mean careless attempts are free. Every wrong answer you could have solved is a mark lost at a level where the top percentiles are separated by a few marks.

Suggested Time Split

There is no official split, but the following is a practical starting point. Adjust it after a few mocks based on your strengths.

How Each Section Plays Out in the Paper

Knowing the number of questions is only half the picture. The style of questions in each section decides how you should attack it.

Logical Reasoning: 75 Questions

This section mixes short standalone questions with sets of four or five questions built on one arrangement or puzzle. Standalone questions on coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, syllogisms and inequalities can usually be solved in under 30 seconds each. Puzzle sets take longer to set up but then give several marks quickly. Critical reasoning questions, such as assumptions and conclusions, need careful reading rather than calculation.

The practical approach is to clear the short questions first, then choose puzzle sets in order of how clear their conditions look. Leave the most tangled set for the end.

Abstract Reasoning: 25 Questions

These questions use figures: series, odd figure out, analogies, mirror and water images, and pattern completion. Each question is independent, so there is no set to set up. Students who have practised the common figure rules can often finish this section well within 15 minutes, which frees time for Logical Reasoning.

Quantitative Aptitude: 50 Questions

The section leans on arithmetic and data reading rather than advanced mathematics. Expect percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, and data interpretation from tables and charts. Data interpretation sets can be long to read but use the same chart for several questions. Estimation and option elimination help here, because the five options are often spread far enough apart to allow approximation.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: 50 Questions

Grammar, vocabulary and sentence-level questions are quick to answer if your basics are sound. Reading comprehension passages take longer, so many students answer the short questions first and then turn to passages. If reading speed is a weakness, practise passages on a timer every day rather than leaving this section to instinct.

The official brochure includes sample questions for the main sections. Solve them once to see the level the CET Cell expects.

Two Attempts and Shifts

From the 2026 cycle, the CET Cell allowed two attempts in the same admission year. In 2026, the first attempt was held from 6 to 8 April and the second on 9 May. Each attempt ran in multiple shifts, with a morning and an afternoon session reported on exam days.

  • Same pattern in both: The 200-question format applies to both attempts.

  • Choice at registration: You choose one or both attempts when you apply, and the fee depends on that choice.

  • Better score counts: If you appear in both, the better of your two percentiles is used for CAP admission.

Whether 2027 keeps the same two-attempt schedule will be confirmed only in the 2027 information brochure.

Percentile Scores and Normalisation

Since the exam runs in several shifts, papers in different shifts can vary slightly in difficulty. To keep the comparison fair, the CET Cell equates scores across sessions and declares a percentile rather than raw marks. The brochure states that the normalisation document is published on the official website.

Raw Marks Versus Percentile

Your raw score is simply the number of correct answers out of 200. Your percentile shows the share of candidates in the comparison group who scored at or below you. A percentile of 95, for example, means you did as well as or better than about 95% of candidates. It does not mean you scored 95% of the marks.

In practice, a small change in raw marks near the top can move your percentile noticeably, because many candidates score within a narrow band.

Exam-Day Rules That Affect Your Time

  • Reporting and gate closing: Late entry is not allowed. Reach the centre well before the reporting time printed on your admit card.

  • Time at the venue: The 2026 brochure advised candidates to expect about four hours at the venue, including checks and instructions.

  • Identity check: Carry the hall ticket and an original valid photo ID whose name matches the hall ticket.

  • Compensatory time: Eligible candidates with disabilities can receive compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the exam, subject to the required documents.

Time Management Strategy

Use Two Rounds

In the first round, move through the paper and answer every question you can solve quickly. Mark lengthy questions for review instead of fighting them. In the second round, return to marked puzzles and data sets in order of ease. This keeps you from losing ten minutes on one difficult set while easy questions remain unseen.

Choose Puzzles Wisely

Before starting a reasoning set, spend a few seconds reading the conditions. Sets with direct clues and fewer variables usually solve faster. Sets with many negative conditions often take much longer and can be left for the end.

Practise the Full Length

Stamina is part of this exam. Two and a half hours of continuous solving is tiring, and accuracy often drops in the last 30 minutes. Full-length practice builds the habit of keeping pace to the end.

The quickest way to test a time split is to try it in a full mock and compare the result with your previous attempt. You can attempt MAH MBA CET online tests on Testkart in the 200-question, 150-minute format and use the section-wise time analysis to see where minutes are being lost.

After each mock, note three things: questions you got wrong, questions that took too long, and questions you skipped but could have solved. Revising from this list is more useful than taking another mock straight away. On Testkart, you can combine full mocks with short sectional tests in between to fix a weak area quickly.

Older Pages and Official Source

Older pages may still show outdated section names or a single attempt per year. Follow the current information brochure on the official website: https://cetcell.mahacet.org/. When the 2027 brochure is released, check the pattern section, the number of attempts and the exam-day instructions before your final weeks of preparation.
