Maharashtra SSC Passing Marks 2027: Grades, Divisions and Pass Percentage Trend

The Maharashtra SSC exam has no cut-off of the kind used in recruitment or entrance exams. There are no seats to fill and no rank list for passing. Instead, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) sets fixed Maharashtra SSC passing marks for each subject, and your overall percentage places you in a result class such as distinction or first class.

This page explains the pass mark, how the classes are worked out, how grace or condonation marks work, and how the state's pass percentage has moved in recent years. Use the trend figures as context, not as a target. What counts is your own score in each subject.

Marks from the two written parts and the internal component are added before the pass rule is applied. You do not need 35 per cent in each separate paper, but you do need 35 out of 100 in the subject total.

These bands are as widely reported from the board's rules. Candidates who appear with subject exemptions may not be awarded distinction, first class or second class. Graded subjects such as Health and Physical Education appear as grades and do not add to your percentage.

Grace and Condonation Marks

The board has a condonation scheme for students who fall just short. As reported from the board's rules, a limited number of marks, up to 15 in total and spread over no more than three subjects, can be added to help a student pass. Students within a few marks of a higher class may also receive grace marks for the class. Separately, students who took part in approved sports, arts or scouting activities can receive additional marks.

The exact rules depend on the subject and situation, so do not plan around them. Aim for a comfortable margin above 35 in every subject.

In 2025, roughly two out of three students who passed scored first class or distinction. A first class is common, so if you are aiming for a competitive Class 11 admission, a distinction is the more useful goal.

Repeaters, Private Candidates and the Supplementary Exam

Pass rates are far lower outside the regular-student group. In 2025, 80.36 per cent of private candidates and 39.44 per cent of repeaters passed. The June 2026 supplementary exam recorded an overall pass percentage of 29.53. If you are taking the exam again, a focused plan on the weak subjects matters more than covering everything.

What Affects Your Result

  • Internal marks: 20 marks per subject come from orals, practicals and school work. Losing them makes the pass mark harder to reach.

  • Paper difficulty: A tougher paper in one year can pull the state's pass percentage down, as the recent dip shows.

  • Split papers: A weak score in one part, such as Geometry, must be made up in the other part and the internal marks.

How to Set Your Target

  1. Set a subject floor: Aim for at least 50 out of 100 in every subject so a bad day in one paper does not put your pass at risk.

  2. Set an overall goal: Decide whether you need first class (60 per cent) or distinction (75 per cent) for the Class 11 stream and college you want.

  3. Track it with timed papers: Your mock scores should sit 5 to 10 percentage points above your goal, because exam-day nerves cost marks.
