Maharashtra SSC Eligibility 2027: Regular, Repeater and Form 17 Private Candidates

Maharashtra SSC eligibility decides whether a student can sit the Class 10 board exam conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) in February and March 2027. Unlike competitive exams, there is no upper age limit or percentage cut-off to enter. What matters is the route you take: through a recognised school, as a repeater, or as a private candidate registered through Form 17.

This page explains each route, the conditions reported for the most recent cycle, the documents to keep ready and the usual registration timeline. Conditions are notified afresh for each exam, so treat the details below as a guide and confirm them with your school or divisional board before you apply.

Regular Candidates

Most students appear as regular candidates. To be eligible, you should meet these conditions.

  • Class 9 passed: You must have passed Class 9 and been promoted to Class 10 in a school recognised by the Maharashtra State Board.

  • Enrolled for the full year: You must be on the school's rolls for the Class 10 year and complete the internal assessment, orals and practicals.

  • Attendance: Schools expect regular attendance, and a minimum attendance requirement is commonly applied. Ask your school about its rule and how shortfalls are handled.

  • Registered by the school: Your school submits your exam application online and pays the fee. For the 2027 exam, regular registration opened in August 2026, with later late-fee windows.

There is no separate minimum age notified for regular candidates beyond the normal school admission age. Your date of birth on the application must match your school records.

Repeaters

If you did not pass one or more subjects, you can appear again without losing much time.

  • Supplementary exam: Held in June and July, soon after the main result. In 2026 it ran from 16 to 30 June 2026, and the result came out in July.

  • Next main exam: You can also appear in the following February to March exam.

  • Subjects to appear for: Repeaters normally take only the subjects they did not clear, keeping passed subjects, but check the rules that apply to your case with your school or divisional board.

  • Internal marks: Ask how your earlier internal or practical marks will be carried forward, since this varies with the subject and situation.

Repeaters pass at much lower rates than first-time regular students. In 2025, for example, 39.44 per cent of repeaters passed compared with 94.10 per cent of regular students, so plan focused preparation on the weak subjects.

Private Candidates Through Form 17

Form 17 is the route for students who are not enrolled in a school but want to take the SSC exam, for example after a gap in schooling, home study or migration. The board opens Form 17 registration online every year, usually from August, with an extended or late-fee window in October.

Conditions reported for the 2026 exam

  • Not enrolled in a school: You must not be a regular student of any recognised school.

  • Minimum schooling: At least Class 5 passed, as reported for the 2026 cycle.

  • Minimum age: 14 years completed by 31 July of the year before the exam, as reported for the 2026 cycle (31 July 2025).

  • Choice of school: You select a nearby secondary school, which verifies your documents and acts as your contact for practicals and orals.

These conditions were reported in news coverage of the board's 2026 Form 17 notice and are indicative for 2027. Read the current Form 17 notice on the board website before applying.

How Form 17 registration works

  1. Fill the online form: Complete Form 17 on the board's portal and upload the documents asked for.

  2. Pay the registration fee online: Keep two printed copies of the fee receipt.

  3. Submit at the chosen school: Hand in the printed application, fee receipts and original documents within the given period.

  4. Get the enrolment certificate: After verification, the board issues an enrolment certificate online.

  5. Fill the exam form: Complete the examination application and pay the exam fee within the board's schedule.

For the 2026 exam, the Form 17 deadline was extended to 15 October 2025. The 2027 Form 17 dates and fees should be checked on the board website, because we could not verify them from an official notice.

Candidates With a Disability

The board offers concessions to eligible candidates with a disability, such as alternative subjects shown in the timetable (for example Arithmetic and Physiology and Hygiene in the 2026 schedule), extra time or a writer, depending on the certified condition. Apply through your school well before the exam with a valid certificate. In 2026, 91.22 per cent of differently abled candidates who appeared passed.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Students on a school's rolls applying through Form 17: Form 17 is only for those not enrolled in a recognised school.

  • Applications with mismatched details: Names, dates of birth or photos that do not match school records can delay or block a hall ticket.

  • Missed deadlines: Applications after the final late-fee date are not accepted for that exam.

  • Incomplete internal assessment: Regular students who skip practicals or orals risk losing those marks.
