Eligibility in brief
Educational qualification
A graduate degree in a science, engineering or technology stream is the base requirement for ACF, together with the forestry training prescribed in the notification. Requirements for Forest Ranger differ in the training component, so read the post-wise clause carefully. Our MPPSC Forest Service eligibility guide explains this in detail.
Age limit
Post | Age limit (as on 1 January 2026) |
|---|---|
ACF | 21 to 40 years |
Forest Ranger | 21 to 33 years |
Relaxation for reserved categories follows Madhya Pradesh government rules and the appendix to the notification.
Other conditions
Domicile: Reservation benefits apply to Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates in SC, ST and OBC categories.
Family size: The notification carries the state rule on the number of living children. Read the exact clause before applying.
Physical fitness: Candidates must meet the height, chest and walking standards given below.
Selection process and exam pattern
Selection is a multi-stage process. The Commission conducts the written stages and the interview, while the physical and medical checks are carried out through the state departments named in the notification.
Stage | Format | Nature |
|---|---|---|
Prelims | Two objective papers: General Studies and General Aptitude Test (CSAT), 200 marks each, 2 hours each (as reported) | Screening; candidates must meet the minimum percentage in each paper |
Mains | Objective paper with Part A (General Knowledge) and Part B (Forestry and General Science) | Decides who is called for interview |
Interview | Personality test, reported as 50 marks | Counted in final merit |
Physical and medical tests | Measurement, walking test and medical examination | Qualifying |
What this means for you:
Prelims is a screen: Reported shortlisting is about 20 times the vacancies, so a safe score matters more than a perfect one.
Mains is where forestry counts: Part B carries the larger share of marks, so subject depth in forestry is the main differentiator.
Fitness needs time: The 25 km walk for men is a pass-or-fail test, so start conditioning early.
Older pages may still show earlier patterns, so follow the official notification. A detailed breakdown is on our MPPSC Forest Service exam pattern page.

Career growth in the Forest Department is by departmental promotion, with a path from Ranger to higher forest service ranks based on seniority and rules.

Weeks 9 to 14: Add CSAT practice daily for comprehension, reasoning and data interpretation, and begin topic-wise tests.
Final phase: Attempt full-length prelims and mains mocks, review every wrong answer and revise from an error log.
