MPSC Group C Notification 2026 Overview
MPSC published Advertisement No. 017/2026 on 25 June 2026 and opened online registration on 27 June 2026. The original deadline of 17 July 2026 was later extended through a corrigendum, and the application window has now closed.
Three changes in this cycle matter more than the headline vacancy figure:
Mode changed to OMR: The exam was first announced as a computer-based test (CBT). A corrigendum moved it to an offline, OMR-based exam at district centres across Maharashtra. Many pages written in June still say CBT.
Prelims moved twice: The prelims was first set for 27 September 2026, then moved to 25 October 2026, and a corrigendum dated 9 September 2026 shifted it again to 3 January 2027. The commission cited administrative and logistical arrangements for the change.
Post mix is different: This advertisement includes AMVI posts with their own technical main exam, while Sub-Inspector (State Excise), which appeared in the previous Group C cycle, is not part of Advertisement 017/2026.
Some reports also mention that additional posts were added after the corrigendum. Until you see the revised post table on the official website, treat 2,619 as the confirmed figure.

MPSC Group C Exam Pattern
Prelims (Combined)
Subjects | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Current affairs, civics, history, geography, economics, general science, intelligence test and arithmetic | 100 | 100 | 1 hour |
The prelims is objective, set in Marathi and English, and only shortlists candidates for the mains. Its marks do not count in final merit.
Mains (Joint Exam for Non-Technical Posts)
Paper | Subjects | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Paper 1 | Marathi (60) and English (40) | 100 | 200 | 1 hour |
Paper 2 | General knowledge, ability test and post-specific knowledge | 100 | 200 | 1 hour |
Total | 200 | 400 | 2 hours |
AMVI candidates take a separate 300-mark mains focused on mechanical and automobile engineering. MPSC deducts one-fourth of the marks of a question for each wrong answer, while unattempted questions carry no penalty.
What This Means for You
Mains questions are worth double: Each mains question carries 2 marks, so a wrong guess costs 0.5 marks. Careful elimination pays off more here than in prelims.
Languages decide a large share: Paper 1 is half of the mains for non-technical posts, and Marathi alone carries 120 marks. Strong Marathi grammar can separate you from candidates with similar general knowledge.
Speed matters: One hour for 100 questions leaves about 36 seconds per question. Regular timed practice is the only reliable way to build that pace.

In-hand salary depends on the current DA rate and the place of posting, so treat any in-hand figure you see online as an estimate, not an official number. Promotions come through seniority and departmental exams within each department. For example, an AMVI can move up to Motor Vehicle Inspector, and clerical staff can move to senior clerical and supervisory posts over time, as per the recruitment rules of their department.
How to Prepare for MPSC Group C
For Prelims
Start with Maharashtra-specific topics: History, geography and polity questions lean heavily towards Maharashtra. Cover state reformers, districts, rivers and local government first.
Build a daily current affairs habit: Spend 30 minutes a day on state and national news, and revise monthly notes from at least the last 12 months.
Practise reasoning and arithmetic daily: These questions are scoring when you are quick, and they reward steady practice more than last-minute study.
For Mains
Treat Marathi as a scoring subject: Revise sandhi, samas, prayog, vibhakti, idioms and proverbs, and solve previous mains papers.
Prepare your post-specific part early: Tax Assistant aspirants should revise bookkeeping basics, and Clerk-Typist aspirants should cover computer fundamentals.
Keep typing practice going: If you are applying for Clerk-Typist or Tax Assistant, practise typing for 20 minutes a day so the skill test does not become a last-minute risk.
Use Mock Tests the Right Way
With the prelims on 3 January 2027, you have roughly 12 weeks. Take one full-length mock a week now and move to two or three a week in the final month. After each test, list the questions you got wrong and the ones that took too long, and revise those topics before the next mock.MPSC Group C Previous Cycle and Cut-Off
The previous Group C cycle shows how quickly post numbers can change. Its combined prelims was held on 11 January 2026 with 938 posts advertised, and by the time the mains was notified in May 2026, the number had grown to 1,884 posts. The mains was scheduled for 12 July 2026.
MPSC releases cut-offs post-wise and category-wise along with each result, and they shift every cycle with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Use previous cut-offs only as a benchmark, and aim for a clear margin above them.
