MPSC Group C Cut-Off 2026: Previous Year Marks and Trend
The MPSC Group C cut-off is the minimum score a candidate in a given category needs to move to the next stage. At the prelims stage, the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) publishes one set of category-wise cut-offs, out of 100 marks, for the shortlisting of non-technical posts. At the mains stage, merit is decided post-wise on the mains score, and the final cut-off is visible only in the selection lists.
This page puts the last two prelims cut-offs side by side, explains why some figures look unusually low, and helps you set a realistic target for the 2026 cycle (Advertisement No. 017/2026), whose prelims is scheduled for 3 January 2027.
MPSC Group C Previous Year Cut-Off (Prelims)
Cycle | Prelims held | Open (General) | Open (Female) |
|---|---|---|---|
Group C 2025 | 11 January 2026 (result 4 May 2026) | 50.25 / 100 | 47.50 / 100 |
Group C 2024 | Result declared in 2025 | 48.25 / 100 | 45.25 / 100 |
These figures are taken from the prelims result notices as reported at the time. Category-wise and sub-category-wise figures (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, SEBC, NT and others) are listed in the result PDF on mpsc.gov.in, so check your exact row there before you rely on it.
What the Trend Shows
The open cut-off is rising slowly: It moved from 48.25 to 50.25 in one cycle. A score near 50 was enough last time, but it may not be enough again.
Female cut-offs sit about 3 marks lower: The gap was similar in both cycles because of horizontal reservation for women.
Very low sub-category figures are not targets: For some sub-categories, such as ex-servicemen, the reported cut-off was below 1 mark. This happens when there are fewer candidates than seats in that group, so everyone who appeared is shortlisted.
What Affects the MPSC Group C Cut-Off
Vacancies: The 2026 cycle has 2,619 posts, against 938 posts first advertised in the previous cycle. More posts usually means more candidates shortlisted for the mains.
Applicants: Group C attracts a very large number of graduates, and a bigger pool pushes the cut-off up.
Paper difficulty: A tougher general studies or arithmetic section brings scores down across the board.
Negative marking: One-fourth of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer, so careless guessing lowers both individual scores and the cut-off.
How Mains Merit Works
For non-technical posts, the mains has two papers of 200 marks each, and selection depends on the 400-mark total, your post preference and your category. AMVI candidates are ranked on their 300-mark technical mains. Clerk-Typist and Tax Assistant candidates must also clear the qualifying typing test. Because the competition is post-wise, the score needed for Clerk-Typist can differ from the score needed for Tax Assistant in the same cycle.
How to Set Your Target Score
Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last year's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass. For open-category candidates, scoring 60 or more consistently in full-length mocks gives a comfortable cushion over the last cut-off.
