Latest Update: Where the Cycle Stands

NTA released the NCHM JEE 2026 information bulletin in late December 2025 and opened registration on 26 December 2025. The original deadline of 25 January 2026 was extended more than once, finally to 1 April 2026. The exam took place on 25 April 2026, and NTA declared the result in May 2026 along with the final answer key.

The biggest change in 2026 was the exam pattern. The paper was cut from 200 questions in 3 hours to 120 questions in 2 hours, and the maths section was renamed from Numerical Ability and Scientific Aptitude to Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude. Many older pages still show the 200-question pattern, so follow the official bulletin, and check whether the 2027 bulletin keeps the 2026 format.

  • NCHM JEE 2027 bulletin: Not released as of 30 October 2026. Going by the last cycle, it is expected around December 2026 to early 2027, but this is not an official date.

  • Counselling 2026: NCHMCT ran online counselling for B.Sc. HHA seats from June 2026, followed by further rounds for vacant seats through July and August 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

NCHMCT JEE eligibility is simple compared with most entrance exams, but two conditions trip up candidates every year: the English subject rule and the deadline for proof of passing Class 12. The full details are on the NCHMCT JEE eligibility criteria page.

Educational qualification

  • Class 12 pass: You must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam from a recognised board.

  • English as a subject: English must have been a subject of study (core, elective or functional) in the qualifying exam.

  • Any stream: The bulletin does not restrict eligibility by stream, so Science, Commerce and Arts students can all apply.

  • Appearing candidates: Students in Class 12 can apply provisionally. In 2026, proof of passing had to be submitted by 30 September 2026, or the admission would be cancelled.

Age limit

There is no upper age limit for NCHMCT JEE, in line with the New Education Policy. Candidates of any age who meet the qualification rule can apply.

Other conditions

At admission, you must submit a physical fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner confirming you can carry out practical classes. The course involves kitchen, service and housekeeping labs, so this is a real requirement, not a formality.

Application Fee and How to Apply

The application is filled online on the NTA NCHM JEE portal. The fee below is from the 2026 bulletin; bank charges and GST are extra.

Category

Application fee (2026)

General (UR) and OBC-NCL

Rs. 1,000

General-EWS

Rs. 700

SC, ST and PwD

Rs. 450

Third Gender

Rs. 450

Steps to apply

  1. Register: Create an account on the NTA NCHM JEE website with a working mobile number and email.

  2. Fill the form: Enter personal, academic and category details, choose the exam medium (English or Hindi) and select four preferred exam cities.

  3. Upload documents: A recent photograph (JPG, 10 KB to 200 KB, white background), your signature, and category or PwD certificates as PDF if applicable.

  4. Pay the fee: Pay online and download the confirmation page.

The medium of the paper cannot be changed after submission, and the correction window allows only one chance to fix details. Check every field before you pay.

What to carry on exam day

  • Admit card: A printed copy with the self-declaration filled in. Admit cards are not sent by post.

  • Photo and ID: One passport-size photograph (the same as uploaded) and an original, valid government photo ID.

  • Allowed items: A transparent ball-point pen and a transparent water bottle. Calculators, phones and other stationery are not allowed.

  • Reporting time: In 2026, entry closed at 9:30 AM for an 11:00 AM exam, so plan to reach early.

NCHMCT JEE Exam Pattern

NCHMCT JEE is a single objective paper. The 2026 version has five sections, with English carrying the most weight.

Section

Questions

Marks

Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude

15

60

Reasoning and Logical Deduction

15

60

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

15

60

English Language

45

180

Aptitude for Service Sector

30

120

Total

120

480

Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Unattempted questions score zero.

What this means for you

  • English decides a large part of your rank: It carries 180 of 480 marks, more than a third of the paper.

  • Service Sector aptitude is the second pillar: Together with English, it accounts for nearly two-thirds of the total.

  • Speed matters: You get about one minute per question on average, so the shorter 2026 paper still needs practised pacing.

For section-wise strategy and a worked scoring example, see the detailed NCHMCT JEE exam pattern guide.

Syllabus Summary

NTA names the five sections in the bulletin but does not publish a topic-wise syllabus. The topics below are built from the section names and from questions asked in previous papers, so treat them as a working checklist rather than an official list.

Section

Important topics

Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude

Percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, number system, data interpretation

Reasoning and Logical Deduction

Series, analogy, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, seating arrangement, syllogism, statements and conclusions

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

National and international events, awards, sports, books and authors, Indian history, geography, polity, tourism and culture

English Language

Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, sentence correction, fill in the blanks

Aptitude for Service Sector

Customer service situations, communication, hospitality and tourism awareness, interpersonal judgement, grooming and etiquette

The full topic lists, with where to start in each section, are on the NCHMCT JEE syllabus page.

Selection Process and Counselling

  1. Entrance exam: NTA conducts the CBT and prepares results from the final answer key using raw marks.

  2. Result and rank: NTA shares scores with NCHMCT, and candidates receive their score card through the NTA portal.

  3. Online counselling: NCHMCT runs counselling for B.Sc. HHA seats. Candidates register, fill institute choices and receive seats round by round based on rank, category and preferences.

  4. Document verification and admission: Allotted candidates report with their documents, proof of passing Class 12 and the physical fitness certificate.

  5. Vacant seat rounds: In 2026, NCHMCT also held further rounds for remaining seats after the main counselling.

Counselling notices appear on the NCHMCT counselling portal: https://nchmcounselling.nic.in/

Participating Institutes and Career Scope

The 2026 bulletin lists about 80 affiliated institutes, including 21 Central IHMs, State Government IHMs, a public sector institute, PPP-run institutes and private IHMs. Central IHMs follow central reservation rules (SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%, with 5% for PwD candidates within each category). State institutes follow their own state reservation policy.

The B.Sc. HHA programme mixes practical training in food production, food and beverage service and rooms division with management subjects such as marketing, finance, human resources and revenue management. Under NEP 2020, a fourth year for an Honours degree may be available. Graduates typically work in hotels, airlines and cruise lines, restaurants, catering, event management and hospitality services. Pay varies widely by employer, city and role, so treat any salary figure you see online as indicative only.

How to Prepare for NCHMCT JEE

Because English and Service Sector aptitude carry 300 of 480 marks, your plan should give them the most time, while keeping maths, reasoning and GK steady enough to avoid weak spots.

  • English first: Read one editorial or long article a day, keep a vocabulary notebook and practise one reading comprehension passage daily.

  • Service Sector aptitude: Practise situation-based questions on guest handling and communication. Read about the hotel, airline and tourism industries so the terms feel familiar.

  • Maths and reasoning: Cover arithmetic basics in the first month, then switch to timed sets of 15 questions to match the section size.

  • General knowledge: Spend 20 to 30 minutes a day on current affairs and make monthly notes for revision.

Use mock tests in the last phase

From two to three months before the exam, take full-length mocks in the 120-question, 2-hour format and analyse every test the same day. Note wrong answers, slow questions and questions you skipped but could have solved.

Cut-off and Closing Rank Reference

NTA does not publish a separate qualifying cut-off for NCHMCT JEE in its bulletin. In practice, admission depends on the closing rank at each IHM in each counselling round, which differs by institute, category and round. Top central IHMs close at much lower ranks than newer or state institutes.

Closing ranks change every year with paper difficulty, seats and choices made by candidates, so treat past figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them. Indicative previous-year closing ranks and how to set a target score are on the NCHMCT JEE cut-off page.
