NCHMCT JEE Cut-off: Closing Ranks and Target Score

The NCHMCT JEE cut-off works differently from most entrance exams. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the exam and publishes scores, but the 2026 information bulletin does not set a separate qualifying cut-off mark. What decides admission is the closing rank: the last All India Rank admitted to a particular Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), in a particular category, in each round of NCHMCT counselling.

This page explains how closing ranks work, shows indicative previous-year figures for one major IHM, and helps you set a realistic target for NCHMCT JEE 2027. Closing ranks change every year with difficulty, seats and the choices candidates make, so treat past figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them.

How the NCHMCT JEE Cut-off Works

  • Score and rank: NTA prepares results from the final answer key using raw marks out of 480, and candidates receive a rank.

  • Counselling rounds: NCHMCT allots seats in rounds based on rank, category and the institutes you choose.

  • Closing rank: After each round, the last rank admitted at each IHM in each category becomes that round's cut-off for that institute.

  • Later rounds move: As candidates accept, upgrade or leave seats, closing ranks usually rise in later rounds, so a rank that misses an institute in round 1 can sometimes get it later.

Top Central IHMs close at much lower ranks than newer central, state or private institutes. A single "NCHMCT JEE cut-off" figure therefore means little without the institute, category and round.

Indicative Previous-Year Closing Ranks

NCHMCT publishes counselling notices and seat allotment results during each cycle. The figures below for IHM Mumbai are compiled from publicly reported counselling data and are indicative only. They are not an official NCHMCT table, so verify them on the official counselling portal before relying on them.

Two patterns stand out. Round 1 closing ranks at this institute have stayed in a narrow band across three years, and final-round ranks have been much higher than round 1. Note that 2026 was the first year of the shorter 120-question paper, so rank-to-score links from earlier years may not carry over.

What Affects the Closing Rank

  • Paper difficulty: A harder paper compresses scores, so small mark differences change ranks a lot.

  • Number of candidates: More applicants push ranks for the same score higher.

  • Seats and new institutes: Changes in intake or new affiliated institutes shift where ranks close.

  • Choice filling: Institutes that many candidates list first close earlier.

  • Category and reservation: Central IHMs follow central reservation rules, while state institutes follow state policy.

  • Counselling round: Withdrawals and upgrades between rounds open seats for higher ranks.

How to Set Your Target

  1. Pick target institutes early: List three to five IHMs you would accept, from aspirational to safe.

  2. Use round 1 as the benchmark: Planning for the round 1 closing rank gives you a safety margin if later rounds move.

  3. Convert rank to score with mocks: Track your mock scores out of 480 and how they compare with other test-takers, and aim to improve accuracy before attempts.

  4. Protect English and service aptitude: These carry 300 of 480 marks, so weakness here costs the most rank positions.
