NCHMCT JEE Eligibility 2027: Qualification, Age and Rules
NCHMCT JEE eligibility is open to most Class 12 students: you need to have passed or be appearing in 10+2 or an equivalent exam with English as a subject, and there is no upper age limit. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the exam, and the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) admits qualified candidates to the B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration at Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs).
This page explains each condition as set out in the NCHM JEE 2026 information bulletin, which is the latest official reference until the 2027 bulletin is released. It covers the qualification and English rule, appearing candidates and the proof-of-passing deadline, age, reservation, physical fitness, documents and the mistakes that cost candidates their seats at the admission stage.

Educational Qualification
The qualification rule has two parts: a recognised 10+2 pass and English as a subject. Both must be met.
10+2 or equivalent
You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam from a recognised board. Equivalent exams usually include qualifications from national and state boards and other boards whose certificates are accepted for higher education in India. If your board is less common, keep a document showing that it is recognised, because the institute will check it at admission.
English as a subject
The bulletin states that English must have been a subject of study in the qualifying exam, as a core, elective or functional subject. The paper itself is heavily weighted towards English, and the B.Sc. programme is taught largely in English, which is why the rule exists.
Core English: Accepted.
Elective English: Accepted.
Functional English: Accepted.
No English in Class 12: Not eligible under the bulletin wording, even if you studied English up to Class 10.
Stream and marks
The bulletin does not restrict eligibility by stream. Students from Science, Commerce, Arts and vocational streams can apply if they meet the English condition. The 2026 bulletin also does not mention a minimum percentage in Class 12, so the deciding factor for admission is your NCHMCT JEE rank, not your board marks. Check the 2027 bulletin when it is released in case this changes.
Appearing Candidates and the Proof-of-Passing Deadline
If you are in Class 12 when the application opens, you can still apply. Your admission is provisional until you prove that you have passed.
Apply provisionally: Fill the form as an appearing candidate and take the exam normally.
Submit proof on time: Proof of passing must be shown at counselling or admission. In the 2026 cycle, the bulletin set 30 September 2026 as the last date.
Missing the deadline: If proof is not submitted by the deadline, the provisional admission is cancelled.
This matters most for students whose board results are delayed or who appear in supplementary or compartment exams. If your result could come late, keep track of the deadline and any notice from NCHMCT about it.
Age Limit
There is no upper age limit for NCHMCT JEE. The bulletin links this to the New Education Policy. A candidate who finished school several years ago, or who is changing careers, can apply as long as the qualification conditions are met.
Because there is no age cap, there is also no category-wise age relaxation to calculate. Some older pages still mention an upper age limit from earlier years, so follow the current bulletin instead.
Reservation and Category Rules
Reservation in Central IHMs follows the central government pattern. State Government IHMs follow the reservation policy of their state, so the same category can have different reserved seats in different institutes.
Category | Reservation in Central IHMs |
|---|---|
Scheduled Castes (SC) | 15% |
Scheduled Tribes (ST) | 7.5% |
Other Backward Classes, Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) | 27% |
General Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 10% |
Persons with Disabilities (PwD) | 5% within each category |
Persons with disabilities
The 5% PwD reservation applies to candidates with 40% or more disability, provided they can carry out the practical work the course requires. Candidates must upload a valid disability certificate (UDID-based) while applying. Those who need a scribe or compensatory time must follow the bulletin's rules and carry the required certificates to the exam centre.
Supernumerary seats
The bulletin provides one supernumerary seat in each Central Institute for wards of Kashmiri migrants and of Kashmiri Pandit or Kashmiri Hindu families (non-migrants), subject to the conditions in the bulletin.
Category certificates
To claim OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST or PwD benefits, you need a valid certificate in the prescribed format. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be current as per government rules. Upload the certificate as a PDF while applying if the form asks for it, and carry the original to counselling.
Physical Fitness and Other Conditions
The B.Sc. HHA course includes practical classes in food production, food and beverage service, front office and housekeeping. At admission, you must submit a physical fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner, in the prescribed format, confirming that you can carry out these practicals.
Format: Use the format given by NCHMCT or the admitting institute, not a general medical note.
Timing: It is checked at the admission stage, not when you apply for the exam.
Practical demands: The course involves standing for long periods, handling kitchen equipment and serving guests, so the requirement is taken seriously.
Programme-related conditions
Admission is to the three-year B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration, with six semesters. Under NEP 2020, the bulletin notes that a fourth year for an Honours degree may be available. Institute rules on attendance, uniforms and conduct apply after admission.
Nationality
The 2026 bulletin does not set out separate nationality rules or a separate route for foreign nationals. Indian candidates who meet the qualification conditions can apply. If you are a foreign national, an NRI or an OCI cardholder, contact NTA or NCHMCT through the official helpline before applying, rather than relying on unofficial pages.
Common Eligibility Scenarios
The table answers the situations students ask about most often. It applies the 2026 bulletin rules; confirm against the 2027 bulletin when it is released.
Situation | Eligible? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Class 12 Commerce or Arts with English | Yes | Apply normally; stream does not matter |
Class 12 Science without English as a subject | No, under the bulletin wording | Check your marksheet; English must be a subject in the qualifying exam |
Currently in Class 12 | Yes, provisionally | Apply as appearing and submit proof of passing by the deadline |
Waiting for a compartment or supplementary result | Provisionally, if the result comes in time | Track the proof-of-passing deadline closely |
Passed Class 12 several years ago | Yes | No upper age limit applies |
Already in another degree course | Yes, if the qualification rule is met | Plan how you will leave the other course if you get a seat |
Passed Class 12 through an open school board | Yes, if the board is recognised and English was a subject | Keep proof of recognition and the subject list |
Low marks in Class 12 | Yes | No minimum percentage is mentioned; your NCHMCT JEE rank decides admission |
Who Is Not Eligible
Most rejections and cancellations come from a few avoidable problems.
No English in the qualifying exam: Candidates who did not study English as a subject in Class 12 do not meet the bulletin condition.
Unrecognised board: A certificate from a board that is not recognised for higher education can lead to cancellation at admission.
Late proof of passing: Appearing candidates who cannot show their pass result by the deadline lose the provisional seat.
Invalid category certificate: An outdated OBC-NCL or EWS certificate, or one in the wrong format, can mean losing the reserved seat.
Wrong details in the form: A mismatch between the form and your documents, such as name or date of birth, can cause problems at verification.
Missing fitness certificate: Admission can be refused without the prescribed physical fitness certificate.
Documents Needed to Prove Eligibility
You will need documents at two stages: while applying online and at counselling or admission. The 2026 upload rules are summarised below; the full admission list is published by NCHMCT during counselling.
