Oriental Insurance Company Limited AO
OICL AO is a recruitment exam conducted by Oriental Insurance Company Limited for the recruitment of Administrative Officers, relevant to candidates preparing for insurance and financial-sector recruitment.
The OICL AO exam is the recruitment route for Administrative Officers (Scale I) at The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, a public sector general insurance company. OICL recruits both Generalist officers and specialist officers, such as Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officers, through an online preliminary exam, an online main exam with an objective and a descriptive part, and a personal interview.
The latest completed cycle is the OICL AO 2025 recruitment for 300 posts, which ran from a notification in late November 2025 to the final shortlist for the pre-recruitment medical examination in July 2026. This page explains how that cycle worked, what the next cycle is likely to look like, and how to prepare. As of 2 November 2026, no 2026 OICL AO notification had been released, so treat the 2025 figures below as your reference until the new one arrives.

OICL AO Notification: Latest Cycle and 2026 Status
OICL announced the 2025 recruitment of Administrative Officers (Scale I) in late November 2025. It covered 285 Generalist posts and 15 Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officer posts, including backlog vacancies. Online registration ran in December 2025 and closed on 18 December 2025 after the opening date was revised.
Two points from recent cycles are worth knowing before the next notification:
The specialist mix changes each time: The 2024 recruitment was for 100 specialist officers in disciplines such as Accounts, Actuarial, Engineering, IT, Medical and Legal. The 2025 recruitment was mostly Generalist, with only Hindi Officers on the specialist side.
The pattern depends on your stream: Generalists and specialists share the same prelims, but the mains objective test differs. Read the stream-wise tables in the notification before planning your mains preparation.
When the 2026 notification is released, it will appear on the careers page: https://orientalinsurance.org.in/careers

Phase II: Main Exam (Generalist, 2025 cycle)
Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Reasoning | 45 | 45 | 45 minutes |
English Language | 40 | 40 | 30 minutes |

Objective total | 200 | 200 | 150 minutes |

Phase II for Specialist Officers
Specialists take the same descriptive paper type, but the objective test includes a Professional Knowledge section on their discipline. In the 2025 cycle, Hindi Officers had Reasoning, English, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge of 25 marks each, plus Professional Knowledge of 100 marks, with a 50-mark descriptive paper. The 2024 specialist cycle used 40-mark sections for Reasoning, English, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and Professional Knowledge.
What This Means for You
Accuracy beats attempts: With a quarter-mark penalty, four wrong guesses cancel one correct answer.
Sectional timing is strict: You cannot carry spare minutes into another section, so practise each section against its own clock.
Mains decides the result: Only the mains objective score and the interview count towards merit, so plan more time for mains-only areas such as general awareness and computers.
Section timings above are as reported from the 2025 notification. The full breakdown is on the OICL AO exam pattern page.

How to Prepare for the OICL AO Exam
Stage-wise Tips
Prelims: Build speed in puzzles, data interpretation and reading comprehension. Clearing every section matters more than a high score in one.
Mains: Start general awareness early. Add insurance and financial news, and revise computer basics weekly, since these sections only appear in mains.
Descriptive: Write one letter and one essay each week within 30 minutes, and get them checked.
Interview: Read about OICL, the general insurance sector and current regulatory news.
Mock Tests
OICL does not publish an official OICL AO mock test on its website, and we could not find an official practice test for the latest cycle. Check the recruitment notice on the official site for any information handout: https://orientalinsurance.org.in/careers
