OICL AO Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Qualification and Relaxation
OICL AO eligibility decides who can apply for Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts at The Oriental Insurance Company Limited. You need to meet three conditions together: an age between 21 and 30 years on the reference date, the degree and minimum marks set for your stream, and the nationality rules in the notification.
This page explains each condition using the latest (2025) recruitment, which hired 285 Generalists and 15 Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officers. It also covers the specialist qualifications used in the 2024 cycle, the category-wise age relaxation, how to check your marks and dates, and the common reasons applications are rejected. No 2026 notification had been released as of 2 November 2026, so confirm every rule in the new notification before you apply.

Educational Qualification
Generalist Officers
You need a graduate or post-graduate degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India. The minimum is 60% aggregate marks for general, OBC and EWS candidates and 55% for SC and ST candidates. Any subject is accepted, so arts, commerce, science, engineering and management graduates can all apply for the Generalist stream.
Graduation or post-graduation: The marks condition applies to the degree you use to qualify. If your graduation marks fall short but your post-graduation marks meet the minimum, read the notification's wording on which degree counts.
Aggregate marks: The percentage is calculated on the aggregate of all years or semesters, not on a single year or on honours subjects alone.
Distance and open learning: Degrees from recognised universities are accepted only if the university and the programme are recognised by the relevant authorities.
Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officers
Hindi Officers need a master's degree with one of the Hindi and English combinations listed in the notification, again with at least 60% marks (55% for SC and ST). The combinations reported for the 2025 cycle include:
Hindi with English at graduation: A master's degree in Hindi or Hindi translation, with English as a subject at graduation level.
English with Hindi at graduation: A master's degree in English, with Hindi as a subject at graduation level.
Any subject with both languages: A master's degree in any subject, with both Hindi and English as subjects at graduation level.
Check the exact list in the notification of your cycle, because a combination that is not listed will lead to rejection at document verification.
Other Specialist Disciplines
OICL does not recruit every specialist discipline in every cycle. The 2025 recruitment had only Hindi Officers on the specialist side. The 2024 recruitment for 100 specialist posts used qualifications along these lines (as reported):
Discipline (2024 cycle) | Qualification reported |
|---|---|
Accounts | B.Com, MBA, CA or ICWAI |
Actuarial | A degree in a relevant subject, plus the required actuarial papers |
Engineering (IT) | B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech or MCA in the relevant field |
Engineering | B.E., B.Tech, M.E. or M.Tech in the branch named in the notification |
Medical Officer | MBBS, BDS or an equivalent recognised degree |
Legal | LLB |
Minimum marks and subject rules vary by discipline and cycle. If you are a specialist, wait for the notification to confirm that your discipline is open and what it requires.
Result Date, Percentage and CGPA
Result deadline: Your degree result must be declared by the cut-off date in the notification. In the 2025 cycle this was reported as 30 November 2025. Final-year students whose results come after that date cannot apply.
No rounding up: A percentage such as 59.99% does not become 60%. Use the exact figure on your marksheets.
CGPA or grades: If your university awards grades, you need the university's conversion formula or certificate to show the equivalent percentage.
Generalist and Hindi Officer Eligibility Compared
Condition | Generalist | Hindi (Rajbhasha) Officer |
|---|---|---|
Minimum degree | Graduation in any discipline | Master's degree |
Subject rule | Any subject | Specified Hindi and English combination |
Minimum marks | 60% (55% for SC and ST) | 60% (55% for SC and ST) |
Age limit | 21 to 30 years | 21 to 30 years |
Vacancies in 2025 cycle | 285 | 15 |
The age rules and relaxations are the same for both streams. The difference lies in the degree and subject requirement, so a candidate with a master's in Hindi could also qualify as a Generalist if the marks condition is met. Check the notification for whether you may apply to more than one stream.
OICL AO Age Limit
Candidates must be at least 21 and not more than 30 years old on the reference date. For the 2025 cycle, the reference date was reported as 30 November 2025.
Category | Date of birth window (2025 cycle, both dates included) |
|---|---|
General (no relaxation) | Born between 1 December 1995 and 30 November 2004 |
For the next cycle, the window will move with the new reference date, and only the new notification can confirm it.
How to Check Your Age
Take the reference date from the notification.
Use the date of birth on your Class 10 certificate, since that is the record OICL accepts.
Add the relaxation years for your category, if any, to the upper limit of 30.
Confirm your date of birth falls inside the window. For example, an OBC (non-creamy layer) candidate gets 3 extra years, so the upper limit becomes 33.
Age Relaxation by Category
Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
SC / ST | 5 years |
OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 10 years |
Ex-servicemen, Commissioned Officers including ECOs and SSCOs | 5 years |
Defence personnel disabled in hostilities | 3 years |
Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated who have not remarried | 9 years |
Confirmed employees of public sector general insurance companies | 8 years |
Certificate needed: Every relaxation must be backed by a valid certificate in the format given in the notification.
OBC creamy layer: Candidates in the creamy layer are treated as general and get no OBC relaxation.
EWS: No age relaxation is listed for EWS candidates.
Combined relaxation: Where you belong to more than one relaxed category, such as PwBD and SC, the notification states how the relaxations combine. Do not add them up on your own.
Nationality and Other Conditions
Nationality: You must be a citizen of India, or belong to another category permitted under Government of India rules, with an eligibility certificate where required.
Medical fitness: Selected candidates must clear the pre-recruitment medical examination before appointment. In the 2025 cycle, the final shortlist was issued for this examination in July 2026.
Probation: New officers serve a probation period, and previous cycles required passing an insurance licentiate exam during it. Check the service conditions in the notification.
Accurate application: Name, date of birth and category in your form must match your certificates exactly.
Eligibility Examples
These examples apply the 2025 cycle rules. They are for illustration only; apply the new notification's dates and rules to your own case.
Candidate | Profile | Eligible for Generalist? |
|---|---|---|
A | General category, B.A. with 62%, born 15 March 1999 | Yes: marks above 60% and age within the window |
B | General category, B.Com with 58%, M.Com with 64% | Depends on the notification's wording on which degree counts |
C | SC category, B.Sc with 56%, born 10 June 1992 | Yes: 55% minimum met and 5-year relaxation covers the age |
D | OBC (non-creamy layer), B.Tech result declared in January 2026 | No: result declared after the reference date |
E | EWS category, born 20 October 1994 | No: over 30 on the reference date and no EWS age relaxation |
Who Is Not Eligible
Below the marks threshold: Candidates with less than 60% (55% for SC and ST) in the qualifying degree.
Result after the cut-off date: Final-year students whose degree result is declared after the reference date.
Outside the age window: Candidates younger than 21 or older than the relaxed upper limit on the reference date.
Wrong Hindi Officer combination: Master's degrees without a Hindi and English combination listed in the notification.
Unsupported category claims: Candidates who cannot produce a valid caste, EWS, PwBD or ex-servicemen certificate in the required format.
Closed specialist streams: Specialist candidates when their discipline is not part of that cycle.
Eligibility is usually checked in detail only at document verification. Clearing prelims and mains does not protect a candidate who was ineligible from the start.
