OICL AO Cut Off: Previous Year Prelims and Mains Marks

The OICL AO cut-off is the minimum score you need at each stage of the Administrative Officer (Scale I) recruitment of The Oriental Insurance Company Limited. There are sectional cut-offs for every test and an overall cut-off for each category, in both prelims and mains.

The figures below are from the 2025 cycle (prelims on 10 January 2026, mains on 28 February 2026), as reported from OICL's result notices. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat these figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

The 2017 Generalist figures are the most recent earlier Generalist cut-offs widely reported. The rise of almost 19 marks in prelims and 30 marks in mains shows how much the scoring level has gone up. The 2024 cycle was for specialists only, so its cut-offs are not comparable with Generalist scores.

What Affects the OICL AO Cut-off

  • Paper difficulty: An easier paper pushes the cut-off up, as seen in the high 2025 prelims scores.

  • Vacancies: More posts mean more candidates are called to the next stage, which can lower the cut-off.

  • Number of applicants: A larger and better-prepared candidate pool raises the score needed to stay in the shortlist.

  • Stream: Generalist and specialist cut-offs are set separately and are not comparable.

How to Set Your Target Score

  • Prelims: Aim for about 82 to 85 out of 100 in mocks of similar difficulty, with every section above the last sectional cut-off by a few marks.

  • Mains: Aim for 145 or more out of 200 in the Generalist pattern, because the final merit also depends on your mains score.

  • Reasoning: The mains reasoning cut-off was 33.50 out of 45 for UR, about 74% of the section, the highest share of any section. Strong puzzle practice is not optional.
