Railway GDCE Cut Off: Qualifying Marks and Target Score

Many candidates search for the Railway GDCE cut off before they have seen what the railway actually publishes. The honest position is this: the Railway Recruitment Cells do not announce a fixed cut-off in the notification. They announce minimum qualifying marks, and the final cut-off for each post is whatever the last shortlisted candidate scores in that zone's merit list.

This page explains what the official documents say, what we could not verify, and how to set a target score without relying on unverified numbers.

What the notifications say

The 2026 notifications of Central Railway, East Coast Railway and North Central Railway fix the minimum qualifying marks by community. These are eligibility thresholds, not selection cut-offs.

Category

Minimum qualifying marks

UR

40 percent

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

30 percent

SC

30 percent

ST

25 percent

PwBD candidates may get a relaxation of 2 marks if their vacancies remain unfilled. Other thresholds in the notifications are separate qualifying rules: a minimum T-score of 42 in each CBAT battery for ALP and East Coast Railway Station Master, and 35 percent in the qualifying trade part of Central Railway's ALP and Technician paper.

Previous cut-off: what is available

We did not find an official post-wise GDCE cut-off table on the Railway Recruitment Cell websites we reviewed. Third-party pages show rank and marks tables, but they do not name an exam year or an official source, so we do not reproduce them. Treat any figure that does not link to an RRC result or merit list as unverified.

What affects the cut-off

  • Vacancies against applicants: Few seats in a post such as Station Master push the last selected score up, while large intakes like ALP leave more room.

  • Paper difficulty and normalisation: Multi-shift papers are normalised, so your normalised score, not your raw score, decides your rank.

  • Zone and post: Each zone prepares its own merit list, so the cut-off differs between zones.

  • CBAT weightage: In ALP merit, the CBAT carries 30 to 50 percent depending on the zone, so a weak aptitude score can undo a strong CBT.

How to set your target

  1. Treat the community minimum as the floor, not the goal.

  2. Take timed mock papers in your post format and note your average accuracy and attempts, not just the best score.

  3. Aim for a margin of at least 10 to 15 marks above the score you expect to be competitive, since the real cut-off is unknown.

  4. For ALP, practise the CBAT as seriously as the CBT.

Official notices and results appear on the RRC website of your zone, such as https://www.rrcbbs.org.in/, https://www.rrccr.com/ or https://rrcpryj.org/notice-category/gdce/.
