Reserve Bank of India Security Guard
RBI Security Guard is a recruitment exam conducted by Reserve Bank of India, relevant to candidates preparing for insurance and financial-sector recruitment.
The RBI Security Guard recruitment is a direct-hiring drive by the Reserve Bank of India for guards who protect the Bank's offices, residential premises and other properties. The posts have been open to ex-servicemen, and selection has been run office by office through an online test, a physical test and document checks.
This guide explains how the last recruitment cycle worked and what to prepare while you wait. We could not confirm a current notification on the official RBI recruitment portal at the time of writing, so every figure below comes from the last notified cycle and is labelled accordingly. Always match details against the latest official notification before you apply.

Notification Status and the Last Cycle
The most recent Security Guard recruitment we could verify was notified in January 2021 as the Security Guards (2020) recruitment. Since then, several coaching pages have discussed a possible new drive, and at least one claims a 2026 notification is out. None of them links to an official document, so treat such claims as unconfirmed until the notice appears on the RBI recruitment portal.

Vacancies in the Last Cycle
The 2021 drive covered 241 posts spread over 18 RBI offices. Mumbai alone accounted for 84 of them. Because hiring was office-wise, the number of seats you compete for depends heavily on the office you choose.

|---|---|
General | 113 |
OBC | 45 |
EWS | 18 |
SC | 32 |
ST | 33 |

Vacancy numbers can rise or fall in every cycle, so do not plan around these figures. The office-wise split is on the eligibility page alongside the age rules.
Eligibility in Brief
Service background: The last notification invited ex-servicemen only, with experience of handling arms and ammunition reported as a requirement.
Education: Class 10 or equivalent from a recognised board. Graduates were reported as not eligible.
Age: A base upper age limit with category relaxation, extended by years of armed forces service, up to a ceiling of 45 years.
The exact wording, the age reference date and the documents you need are covered in the RBI Security Guard eligibility guide.
Selection Process
The last cycle followed these steps in order:
Online test: Taken at a centre within the candidate's regional jurisdiction.
Physical test: For candidates shortlisted on online test marks. It is qualifying in nature.
Merit list: Prepared from online test marks for those who qualify in the physical test.
Verification: Documents, biometric details and any other checks the Bank decides.
Medical examination: A pre-recruitment medical test before final selection.
In other words, the online test decides your rank, while the later stages decide whether you remain in contention.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus in Brief
The online test was reported as a single paper of 100 questions carrying 100 marks in 80 minutes, with three sections: reasoning, numerical ability and English. The full breakdown and marking details are on the exam pattern page.
RBI does not publish a detailed topic list for this post, as far as we could find. The topics worth covering, with a study order, are on the syllabus page.
Pay and Allowances
The 2021 notification offered a starting basic pay of Rs. 10,940 per month. Initial gross emoluments were reported at about Rs. 27,678 per month, including house rent allowance at 15 percent and other allowances. This is not a current figure. Pay and allowances change with the Bank's revisions and with the city of posting, so read the new notification for the applicable numbers.
Application Fee and How to Apply
Applications were online only, through the RBI recruitment portal. The last cycle reportedly charged Rs. 50 as intimation charges, payable online, with the Bank's own staff exempt. Treat this as indicative.
Open the official recruitment portal and find the Security Guard advertisement.
Read the eligibility conditions and choose the office you are eligible for.
Register, fill in the form and upload the photograph and signature as specified.
Pay the fee, if any, and save the confirmation.
Download your call letter from the same portal when it is released.
Keep your discharge book, age proof and category certificate ready, since they are checked at the physical test stage.
How to Prepare
The written test is short and objective, so steady practice matters more than long study hours. Reasoning carries the most marks, so start there. Use the syllabus checklist to cover numerical ability and English in parallel, and keep a daily block for timed questions.
Physical readiness deserves its own routine. A qualifying test can end your candidature even with a high written score, so build running and strength endurance from the start, and follow the standards printed in the notification once it is out.
For timed practice in the reported pattern, you can attempt RBI Security Guard online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to decide what to revise. Pair them with short study notes and a weekly error log, and check the cut-off guidance to set a realistic target score.
