Railway Recruitment Board Section Controller

RRB Section Controller is a recruitment exam conducted by Railway Recruitment Board, relevant to candidates preparing for Indian Railways recruitment.

RRB Section Controller Study Material

The RRB Section Controller exam is how the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) recruit Section Controllers directly. These are the staff in divisional control offices who regulate train movement over a stretch of track. The latest cycle runs under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 03/2026, which offers 119 posts in Level 6 of the 7th CPC pay matrix across Zonal Railways.

This page brings the 2026 cycle together in one place: dates, vacancies, eligibility, fee, the CBT and CBAT pattern, the syllabus, selection, pay and a preparation plan. The CBT under CEN 03/2026 was scheduled for 12 and 13 October 2026. The next updates to watch are the answer key, the CBT result and the CBAT schedule.

RRB Section Controller Notification Overview

The RRBs released an indicative notice on 27 June 2026, followed by the detailed CEN 03/2026 on 14 July 2026. Applications ran from 15 July to 14 August 2026, and RRBs issued the first corrigendum to it on 17 July 2026. Read the corrigendum together with the main notice, because it forms part of the official terms.

This cycle is separate from the previous one, CEN 04/2025, which held its CBT on 11 and 12 February 2026 and its CBAT on 6 June 2026. That cycle was widely reported at 368 posts. If a page shows a February exam date or a different vacancy count, it is describing the older cycle.

Two rules matter most this year. Candidates could apply to one RRB only, and applying to more than one leads to rejection of all applications and debarment. Age is counted as on 1 July 2026, not 1 January.

One-third of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The section split is indicative and may vary. The CBT is offered in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages.

Stage 2: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates equal to eight times the vacancies, RRB-wise and community-wise, are shortlisted for the CBAT on CBT merit. You must score a T-score of at least 42 in each test battery. There is no relaxation for any category, and there is no negative marking. CBAT questions are in English and Hindi only.

What This Means for You

  • Quant and data carry the CBT: About 60 of the 100 questions sit in the analytical and mathematical section, so speed with arithmetic and data sets decides your rank.

  • Guessing has a price: Three wrong guesses cancel one correct answer, so skip questions you cannot narrow down.

  • CBAT is a separate skill: It is a pass-or-fail gate in every battery and counts for 30% of merit, so practise aptitude-style tests early.

Older pages may still list general awareness or a 1 January age date. Follow the CEN 03/2026 notification. For details.

How to Prepare for RRB Section Controller

For the CBT

  • Start with arithmetic: Percentages, ratio, averages and time-speed-distance feed most data questions too.

  • Read data daily: Solve one table or chart set every day to build speed with multi-source data.

  • Practise English passages: Reading comprehension sits inside the logical section and rewards regular reading.

For the CBAT

  • Learn the format: Read the RDSO guidance on test batteries and T-scores before the CBAT notice comes out.

  • Work on speed and accuracy together: Aptitude batteries reward quick, steady responses.

Mock Tests

For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt RRB Section Controller online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to plan your revision. Pair them with previous year papers to understand the real difficulty level.

Previous Cut-off Reference
