RSMSSB Junior Accountant Exam Pattern 2026: Marks and Timing

The RSMSSB Junior Accountant exam pattern has two objective papers held on the same day, each with 150 questions worth 450 marks. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB, formerly RSMSSB) uses one combined written exam for Junior Accountant and Tehsil Revenue Accountant (TRA) posts, and only Rajasthan CET (Graduation Level) qualified candidates can appear.

No new notification has been issued as of October 2026, so the pattern below is the one used in the latest cycle, Advertisement No. 02/2023, with the exam held on 11 February 2024. Knowing the marks per question and the penalty for wrong answers helps you decide where to spend time and when to leave a question.

Paper 2 ran from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm on the same day in the 2023 cycle, as reported. Both papers together carry 900 marks.

Marking Scheme and Negative Marking

  • Marks per question: Each correct answer earns 3 marks.

  • Negative marking: One-third of the question's marks, which is 1 mark, is deducted for each wrong answer.

  • Five-option OMR: Press reports on the 2023 exam describe five options per question, with candidates required to fill one bubble for every question. Follow the OMR instructions on your admit card and question booklet, including any rule on unattempted questions.

  • Qualifying marks: Reported as 35% in each paper and 40% in aggregate, with up to 5% relaxation for SC and ST candidates. Treat this as indicative until the next notification confirms it.

What the Pattern Means for You

  • Each right answer is worth three wrong ones: A wrong guess costs 1 mark against 3 for a correct answer, so a guess pays only when you can rule out at least two options.

  • Equal marks, unequal effort: Every subject is worth 75 marks, but rules and accountancy take longer to master. Start them early.

  • Minimum marks in both papers: A strong Paper 2 cannot rescue a Paper 1 below the per-paper minimum, so do not neglect languages and GK.

  • Stamina matters: Five hours of exam in one day means your full-length practice should also run both papers on the same day.

Is There a Skill Test or Interview?

No interview or typing test was part of the 2023 selection. After the written exam, RSSB called about twice as many candidates as posts for document verification, then issued final recommendations.

Final Merit Calculation

Final merit is based on the combined marks of Paper 1 and Paper 2, out of 900, among candidates who clear the qualifying marks and document verification. Category, scheduled or non-scheduled area and post preference then decide allotment.

Worked example: Suppose you attempt 120 questions in Paper 1 and get 100 right and 20 wrong. Your score is 100 x 3 minus 20 x 1, which is 280 out of 450. If Paper 2 gives 95 right and 15 wrong, that is 270. Your total is 550 out of 900, before any normalisation the board may apply.

Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy

  1. First pass, 90 minutes: Answer every question you know at once and mark the rest.

  2. Second pass, 40 minutes: Work on marked questions where you can eliminate options.

  3. Last 20 minutes: Check OMR filling and follow the booklet instructions for any question left.

  4. Between papers: Rest, eat light and avoid discussing Paper 1 answers before Paper 2.

Older pages may still show the RPSC Junior Accountant scheme or a single-paper format. This exam follows the RSSB two-paper pattern, so rely on the official notification. For RPSC cycles, see our separate RPSC Junior Accountant exam page.
