SSC GD Eligibility 2027: Age Limit, Qualification and Height

SSC GD eligibility looks simple at first: pass Class 10, be between 18 and 23, and meet the height standard. But candidates still lose their selection every year over details they overlooked, such as a domicile certificate from the wrong state, a date of birth that does not match the Class 10 certificate, or a result declared after the cut-off date.

Parameter / Provision

SSC CAPFs & Assam Rifles (GD) Domicile & State Quota Norms

Nationality Baseline

Must be an Indian Citizen (Mandatory baseline for state-wise vacancy allocation).

Vacancy Allocation Architecture

CAPF and Assam Rifles vacancies are earmarked State/UT-wise; candidate allocation and cut-offs depend directly on the declared domiciled State/UT.

Mandatory Proof Document

Must produce a valid Domicile Certificate or Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent authority of the State/UT indicated in the online application.

Address vs. Domicile Distinction

Domicile state and district selected in the application form determine the quota pool; permanent or correspondence addresses do not confer domiciliary status.

State Certificate Mismatch & Changes

Producing a PRC/Domicile Certificate from a state other than the one specified in the application leads to immediate cancellation of candidature; state changes at Document Verification (DV) are strictly prohibited.

Assam State Exemption

Assam candidates are exempt from submitting a Domicile/PRC certificate (as Assam does not issue PRCs for general recruitment); residential status is verified via local district authorities.

Migrated Reserved Category Rules

Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) who migrated to another state must declare in the form whether to:

• Claim reservation benefits from their State of Origin, OR

• Compete as an Unreserved (UR) candidate in their State of Domicile.

Special District Earmarking

Specific vacancy pools are reserved exclusively for candidates domiciled in designated Border-Guarding Districts or Militancy / Naxal-Affected Districts.

Children and dependants of 1984 riot victims (SC / ST)

A few points often confuse applicants:

  • Wards of Ex-Servicemen: Sons, daughters and dependants of Ex-Servicemen do not get ESM age relaxation or reservation.

  • Serving personnel: Armed Forces personnel who will complete their term within a year of the application closing date can apply under the ESM category.

  • Riot victim relaxation: You need a certificate from the District Collector or District Magistrate of the district where the victim was killed.

Educational Qualification

You must have passed Matriculation (Class 10) from a recognised board or university on or before the cut-off date. For the 2026 cycle, that date was 1 January 2026.

  • Result timing: Your result must be declared by the cut-off date. A result that is still being processed does not count.

  • Any recognised board: CBSE, ICSE, state boards and recognised open schooling boards are all accepted.

  • Open and distance learning: Certificates from distance learning must come from institutions approved for the relevant period, and you may be asked for proof of that approval.

  • Details must match: Enter your name, parents' names and date of birth exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate.

There is no minimum percentage requirement. Higher qualifications do not give any advantage in selection.

Physical Eligibility: Height, Chest and Weight

Physical standards are checked at the PST, after the CBE (see the SSC GD exam pattern for the full selection sequence). The general standard is 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women.

Weight: Weight must be proportionate to height and age. After a 2026 update, weight is assessed at the medical examination, where a BMI of 18 to 25 is the standard.

Relaxation for categories other than ST requires a certificate from a competent authority in the prescribed format. ST candidates only need a valid ST certificate.

Medical Standards

Candidates who clear the PST and PET undergo a Detailed Medical Examination by CAPF medical boards. The examination follows the Ministry of Home Affairs' uniform guidelines for CAPF recruitment and checks overall fitness for armed duties, including eyesight, hearing and general health. If you are declared unfit, you can seek a Review Medical Examination.
