TCS NQT Cut-Off: Score Bands and How to Set a Target

There is no single, official TCS NQT cut-off. The TCS National Qualifier Test is a hiring and employability test, not a government exam with a published qualifying mark. TCS iON gives you a scorecard, and each company that receives it decides its own shortlisting bar. This page explains what that means in practice and how to set a sensible target.

What cut-off means for the TCS NQT

In a government exam, the cut-off is a published mark that separates qualified candidates from the rest. For the TCS NQT, the idea is different. Your score is valid for 2 years, can be sent to many employers, and each employer applies its own threshold when it screens applications. The hub also notes that TCS iON does not arrange interviews.

Is there an official cut-off?

Neither TCS iON nor the NQT hub lists a cut-off score, section-wise minimum or percentile for any role. You may see numbers on forums or prep sites. These are candidate reports or estimates, they come from different years and formats, and they should not be treated as official. We have deliberately not listed any numbers here. Cut-offs change every drive with difficulty, applicant numbers and the company's hiring needs. Treat any figure you find as a benchmark at best, and aim for a clear margin above it rather than a bare pass.

What affects the shortlisting bar

  • Test difficulty: A tougher set generally lowers raw scores across all candidates.

  • Number of applicants: More applicants for the same openings raise the effective bar.

  • Role and company: Technical roles and premium tracks usually look for stronger scores than general roles.

  • Other criteria: Academics, backlogs and branch fit are checked alongside the score.

How to set your target

  1. Use best-score rules: You can retake the test, and the highest score is considered. The same variant can be repurchased only after 90 days, so prepare before the first attempt.

  2. Benchmark with mocks: Take at least four full-length timed mocks. Aim to be consistently above your own average, with high accuracy in each section.

  3. Watch every section: A strong section does not always hide a weak one, so keep all sections balanced.

  4. Read the employer notice: For each drive, check the stated criteria before you apply.
