UP Junior High School Teacher Cut Off 2026: Qualifying Marks

The UP Junior High School Teacher cut off for a new cycle cannot exist yet, because no fresh written exam has been held since October 2021. What students can use today is the qualifying level reported for the 2021 exam and the way merit worked in the later selection stage. This page explains both and shows how to turn them into a target score.

No official category-wise selection cut-off for the Assistant Teacher or Headmaster posts could be verified, so none is shown here. Any website listing an "expected cut-off" for the next exam is giving an estimate, not an official figure.

Previous qualifying marks (2021 exam)

Category

Qualifying level (out of 150 marks)

Unreserved

65 percent, which is 97.5 marks

Reserved categories

60 percent, which is 90 marks

These percentages come from secondary reports on the 2021 result and are indicative. The official result notice is the final authority. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat last cycle's figures as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

How many candidates qualified

Result

Assistant Teacher qualified

Headmaster qualified

Original result (15 November 2021)

45,257

1,722

Revised result (2022)

42,066

1,544

Compare these numbers with the 1,894 posts advertised in 2021 (1,504 Assistant Teacher and 390 Headmaster). Passing the qualifying level was therefore not enough, because selection followed merit among the qualified candidates. Figures are as reported by news sources and may differ slightly from the official records.

How merit worked in the latest stage

In the selection stage that began in November 2025, only candidates who had cleared the 2021 exam could apply. Merit was based on their 2021 marks, followed by online school allocation and document verification. There was no interview and no fresh exam at that stage. A school-wise or district-wise closing mark is not available in the sources reviewed, so it is not listed here.

What affects the cut-off in a new cycle

  • Paper difficulty: A harder subject paper lowers the score needed for selection.

  • Vacancies: Fewer posts mean a higher closing score.

  • Number of applicants: A large pool of TET-qualified candidates raises the competition.

  • Marking scheme: If negative marking is introduced, as reports suggest, scores will cluster lower and accuracy will matter more.

  • Subject chosen: Merit may be compared within the subject group, depending on the notification.

How to set your target

  1. Start with the qualifying level: In the 2021 format, that was 90 marks for reserved categories and 97.5 for unreserved, out of 150. Treat these as the floor, not the goal.

  2. Add a margin: Aim for at least 10 to 15 percent of the total above the floor, since selection is by merit.

  3. Track accuracy as well as score: Under negative marking, a higher accuracy rate protects your score better than more attempts.

  4. Use mocks to benchmark: Your average over the last five full-length papers is a more reliable guide than one good attempt.
