UP Junior High School Teacher Eligibility 2026: Qualification and Age
UP Junior High School Teacher eligibility depends on which post you want: Assistant Teacher or Headmaster in an aided junior high school of Uttar Pradesh. Both need a graduation degree and teacher training, and the Assistant Teacher post also needs a pass in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) at upper primary level.
This page sets out the qualification, age and experience rules reported for the 2021 cycle, and explains who was allowed to apply in the latest selection stage. Eligibility rules come from the official notification and government orders, so confirm every point there once the next advertisement is released.

Educational qualification
Assistant Teacher
Graduation: A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university. The subject you choose for the paper should match your studies and training.
Teacher training: A recognised qualification such as B.Ed, BTC, D.El.Ed or the four-year B.El.Ed. The exact list, along with any minimum percentage tied to a particular route, comes from the notification and the state rules.
TET: A pass in the Teacher Eligibility Test at upper primary level, conducted by the state or the central government. Confirm in the notification whether UPTET, CTET or both are accepted, and check that your certificate is valid on the cut-off date.
Headmaster
The same graduation and training requirements apply, together with experience as described below. Check whether TET is mandatory for your route in the new notification, because sources differ on this point.
Age limit and relaxation
For the 2021 cycle, reports give an age range of 21 to 40 years for Assistant Teacher. The date on which age is counted is stated in the notification.
Category | Upper age relaxation (reported, tentative) |
|---|---|
SC, ST and OBC | 5 years |
Ex-servicemen | 3 years, or as set by the state |
Persons with disabilities | Up to 15 years |
These relaxations are indicative. The final figures follow the current state government rules and the notification.
Experience for Headmaster
Headmaster candidates were reported to need five years of teaching experience in a recognised junior high or senior basic school. Keep your experience certificate ready, since it is checked during document verification.
Who could apply in the latest stage
The online application held from 24 November 2025 was not open to everyone. Only candidates who had qualified in the 2021 written exam could apply, using their earlier registration details. A candidate who qualified for both posts had to submit separate applications. No new written exam was part of that stage.
For a fresh recruitment, the notification will define who can apply, so do not assume that the 2021 qualification will carry over.
Who may not be eligible
Without TET: Candidates who have not passed TET at the required level, or whose certificate is not accepted.
Without recognised training: Candidates whose B.Ed, BTC or D.El.Ed is not from a recognised institution.
Outside the age range: Candidates above the upper limit after relaxation or below the minimum.
Headmaster without experience: Candidates who cannot show the required years of teaching service.
Documents to keep ready
Keep scanned copies of your graduation and training certificates, TET certificate, date-of-birth proof, category certificate if applicable, experience certificate for Headmaster, photograph and signature. Name and date-of-birth mismatches across documents are a common reason for delay at verification.
If you are still working on your TET or training, a structured plan helps.
