UP Junior High School Teacher Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Topics
The UP Junior High School Teacher syllabus covers two parts: a general knowledge paper and a subject paper chosen by the candidate. The recruitment fills Assistant Teacher and Headmaster posts in aided junior high schools of Uttar Pradesh, so subject questions are pitched at the level a teacher of classes 6 to 8 is expected to know.
This page lists the topics under each part, shows which areas overlap, and gives a week-wise plan to cover them. It is written for the latest known paper structure from the 2021 exam, with a note on what could change in the next cycle.

Honesty note on the official syllabus
The department's notification names the parts of the paper but we could not verify a detailed topic-wise syllabus from an official document. The topic lists below are built from the 2021 paper structure and from the usual content of classes 6 to 8. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list. Once the new notification and syllabus appear on the Basic Education Department website or the UPESSC website, follow them.
Syllabus at a glance
Part | Questions (2021 format) | Marks (2021 format) | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
General knowledge | 50 | 50 | Common for all candidates |
Subject paper | 100 | 100 | Language, Maths and Science, or Social Science |
Key changes to know
Format may change: Reports on the next cycle mention a 120-question paper with negative marking. If that is confirmed, the split between general knowledge and the subject may also change.
Older pages may differ: Older pages may still show 2021 details, so follow the official notification once it is out.
General knowledge syllabus
This part is common to every candidate. It rewards steady reading rather than last-minute cramming.
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Current affairs | National and international events, awards, sports, appointments, government schemes | Last 12 months, in monthly notes |
Uttar Pradesh | Geography, districts, rivers, history, economy, education policy, government schemes | Geography and administrative divisions |
History and polity | Ancient to modern India, freedom movement, Constitution, rights and duties, governance | Modern history and the Constitution |
Geography and economy | Physical and economic geography of India and the world, basic economic concepts | India geography |
General science | Everyday physics, chemistry and biology, environment, computer awareness | Class 6 to 10 science |
Reasoning | Analogy, classification, series, clocks and calendars, simple logic | Analogy and series |
Questions on Uttar Pradesh and current affairs are the most likely to separate close scores, because standard textbooks cover them least.
Subject paper syllabus
You attempt one subject group. Choose the one that matches your graduation and training, and prepare it to a depth beyond class 8 textbooks.

Civics: Democracy, Constitution, local government, rights and duties.
Economics: Basic concepts, agriculture, industry, trade and the Indian economy.
Headmaster additional area
Some reports on the Headmaster paper mention an education management part, covering school administration, finance, human resources and classroom management. The structure for Headmaster candidates should be checked in the notification, and this area should be treated as tentative.
Overlap between parts
Area | General knowledge | Subject paper | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
History and geography | Broad facts | Detailed (Social Science) | Study deeply once if you choose Social Science |
General science | Basic facts | Detailed (Maths and Science) | Use science notes for both |
Language usage | Not tested | Core (Language) | Daily reading and grammar drills |
Is there an interview syllabus?
The 2021 cycle was decided on written-test marks, and the later selection stage used those marks without an interview. There is no separate interview syllabus to prepare, unless the new notification adds one.
How to cover the syllabus
