Current Status of the 2025 Recruitment
UPPSC is running the 2025 cycle subject-wise, so different subjects are at different stages. The table below reflects results reported up to 27 October 2026. Treat it as a status snapshot and confirm on the official website, because new results are being added.
Subject | Latest reported stage |
|---|---|
Commerce, Agriculture/Horticulture | Final result declared (reported 1 September 2026) |
Science | Final result declared (reported 18 September 2026) |
Sanskrit | Final result declared on 7 October 2026 (182 candidates selected, as reported) |
Computer | Mains held on 16 August 2026; result awaited at last check |
Other subjects | Mains completed between April and July 2026; results being declared subject-wise |
Selected candidates go through document verification before appointment. UPPSC has said that candidates' marks and cut-off marks are published only after the final selection result of a subject.
What Changed in the 2025 Cycle
Earlier LT Grade recruitments were decided by a single objective written exam. The 2025 advertisement changed this in three ways that matter for preparation.
Two stages instead of one: An objective prelims now screens candidates, and a descriptive mains decides the merit list.
Prelims marks are not carried forward: The prelims only decides who reaches the mains, so a high prelims score gives no advantage in the final merit.
Minimum qualifying marks: UPPSC shortlisted only candidates who crossed its minimum marks. In several subjects, such as Mathematics and Science, fewer candidates than the target ratio qualified, and some posts may remain unfilled.
The practical lesson is that subject knowledge at graduation level is now tested twice, once in MCQ form and once in written form. Preparing only through one-liner facts is no longer enough.

UP LT Grade and UP TGT: What Is the Difference
Many students confuse these two exams because both recruit teachers for Classes 6 to 10. They are separate recruitments.
Point | UP LT Grade Teacher | UP TGT |
|---|---|---|
Schools | Government (Rajkiya) secondary schools | Government-aided (non-government) secondary schools |
Conducting body | UPPSC | Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) |
Exam structure (2025 cycle) | Prelims plus descriptive mains | Separate written exam under UPESSC rules |
The syllabus overlaps heavily, so preparation for one helps with the other. Still, apply and check rules separately for each.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
For most subjects, you need a graduation degree with the relevant subject and a B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution. A few subjects have their own rules:

Computer: B.E. or B.Tech in Computer Science, graduation in Computer Science or Computer Applications, or graduation with NIELIT A Level, among other listed routes.
Physical Education: Graduation plus B.P.Ed or B.P.E.
The full subject-wise table is on our UP LT Grade eligibility page. Always match your degree against the advertisement, because UPPSC checks it at document verification.

UP LT Grade Exam Pattern
Preliminary Examination
Part | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
Part A: General Studies | 30 | 60 | 2 hours (combined) |
Part B: Concerned subject | 120 | 240 | 2 hours (combined) |
Total | 150 | 300 | 2 hours |
Each question carries 2 marks, and wrong answers attract negative marking. The prelims is a screening stage: UPPSC shortlists up to about 15 candidates per vacancy, category-wise, from those who clear its minimum qualifying marks.
Main Examination
Section | Questions | Marks | Answer length |
|---|---|---|---|
Section A: Short answer | 10 | 80 (8 each) | About 125 words |
Section B: Long answer | 10 | 120 (12 each) | About 200 words |
Total | 20 | 200 | 3 hours |
All mains questions are compulsory and come from your subject. What this means for you:
Subject depth decides the result: 240 of 300 prelims marks and the whole mains come from your subject, so General Studies is support, not the core.
Accuracy over attempts: With negative marking, a guess that goes wrong costs you; attempt only questions you can narrow down.
Writing practice is essential: Mains needs 20 structured answers in 180 minutes, roughly 9 minutes each.
Older pages may still describe LT Grade as a single objective exam. Follow the 2025 advertisement.
Syllabus Summary
Part | Stage | Important areas |
|---|---|---|
General Studies | Prelims | Indian history and national movement, geography of India and the world, polity, economy and social development, current events, Indian agriculture, general science, elementary mathematics up to high school, with focus on Uttar Pradesh |
Concerned subject | Prelims and mains | Graduation-level syllabus of your subject as printed in the advertisement |
The subject syllabus is common to prelims and mains. In Social Science, the paper has four sections (Geography, History, Economics, Civics) and candidates answer from any two. See the full topic lists on our UP LT Grade syllabus page.
Selection Process
Preliminary exam: Objective screening test. Marks are not added to the final merit.
Main exam: Descriptive subject paper of 200 marks. Final merit is prepared on mains marks.
Document verification: Original certificates are checked before appointment. There is no interview.
Salary and Career Growth
Component | Details |
|---|---|
Pay level | Level 7 (7th Pay Commission) |
Pay scale | Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 |
Allowances | Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and others as per UP government rules |
The pay level is as reported for this post; in-hand salary varies with allowances and city, and it is not an official figure. With experience, LT Grade teachers can become eligible for promotion to the Lecturer grade under the service rules of the UP Secondary Education Department.
How to Prepare for UP LT Grade Teacher
Since the next cycle will likely follow the same two-stage structure, prepare for both stages together.
Weeks 1 to 8: Cover your subject's graduation-level syllabus unit by unit, and keep 30 minutes a day for General Studies.
Weeks 6 to 12: Add topic-wise MCQ tests and start writing two or three mains answers a week within the word limits.
Weeks 12 onward: Take full-length prelims mocks, analyse them the same day, and maintain an error log.
Last phase: Revise notes, practise full mains papers in 3 hours, and revise Uttar Pradesh-specific General Studies.
Writing Better Mains Answers
Plan before you write: Spend the first minute of each long answer listing three or four points you will cover.
Respect the word limits: About 125 words for 8-mark answers and about 200 words for 12-mark answers; going far beyond them costs time you need later.
Use subject vocabulary: Definitions, formulas, examples from texts or diagrams where your subject allows them make answers easier to mark.
Fix your answer language early: Unless your subject paper requires a specific language, choose Hindi or English at the start and practise only in that language.
For timed practice in the current pattern, you can attempt UP LT Grade online tests on Testkart and use the section-wise analysis to see where your subject marks leak. UPPSC does not publish official mock tests for this exam; notices, admit cards and results are posted on its notifications page: https://uppsc.up.nic.in/CandidatePages/Notifications.aspx
Cut-off Reference
UPPSC releases candidates' marks and cut-off marks for a subject only after its final selection result. For the 2025 cycle, many prelims results fell short of the 15-per-vacancy target because too few candidates cleared the minimum qualifying marks, which shows how demanding the subject paper is. Cut-offs change with difficulty, vacancies and applicants, so treat any past figure as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above it. Details are on our UP LT Grade cut-off page.
