UP LT Grade Syllabus 2025: Subject-wise Topics
The UP LT Grade syllabus has two parts: a General Studies section that is common to all candidates, and a subject syllabus for the post you apply for. UPPSC, which conducts the Assistant Teacher (LT Grade) recruitment for Government Secondary Schools in Uttar Pradesh, published the syllabus with Advertisement No. A-5/E-1/2025 for 7,466 posts across 15 subjects.
The subject syllabus is the same for the prelims and the mains, so what you study once is tested twice: as MCQs in the prelims and as written answers in the mains. The topic lists below are a working summary of the published syllabus for each subject. Use them as a checklist and match every unit with the official syllabus PDF on the UPPSC website before you finalise your plan.

How to Cover the UP LT Grade Syllabus
UP LT Grade Syllabus at a Glance
Stage | Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Prelims | Part A: General Studies | 30 | 60 | 2 hours for the full paper |
Prelims | Part B: Concerned subject | 120 | 240 | 2 hours for the full paper |
Mains | Concerned subject (descriptive) | 20 | 200 | 3 hours |
Each prelims question carries 2 marks, with negative marking for wrong answers. The mains has 10 short answers of 8 marks and 10 long answers of 12 marks.
Key Changes to Know
Two stages now: The 2025 cycle introduced a preliminary exam and a descriptive main exam. Earlier cycles had a single objective paper, so older syllabus pages may not mention the mains at all.
Same subject syllabus for both stages: UPPSC has printed one subject syllabus that applies to the prelims and the mains.
General Studies only in the prelims: General Studies is Part A of the prelims. The mains is a paper in your subject.
Social Science has an internal choice: The Social Science paper has four sections (Geography, History, Economics, Civics), and candidates answer from any two of them.
Subject level is graduation: Expect questions at graduation level, not school level, especially in the mains.
General Studies Syllabus (Prelims)
General Studies carries 30 questions and 60 marks. It tests the general awareness of an educated person, with attention to Uttar Pradesh.

Subject-wise Syllabus: Mathematics and Sciences
Mathematics
Mathematics is set at graduation level. Plan for core areas such as algebra, calculus, geometry and trigonometry, along with statistics, probability, mensuration and arithmetic. The unit list for Mathematics varies more across summaries than for other subjects, so take the exact units from the official syllabus PDF before you build your plan.
Science
Branch | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Physics | Mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, waves and optics, electricity and magnetism, modern physics | Mechanics and electricity |
Chemistry | Physical, inorganic and organic chemistry, environmental chemistry | Periodic table, bonding, organic basics |
Biology | Human body systems, plant physiology, microorganisms, ecology | Human physiology |
Biology
Biology posts need Zoology and Botany at graduation, and the paper reflects that: plant and animal diversity, cell biology, genetics, physiology, ecology and evolution. Prepare both Botany and Zoology evenly, because a weak half can pull down both your MCQ score and the quality of your written answers. Diagrams of plant and animal structures, life cycles and physiological processes are worth practising for the mains.
Subject-wise Syllabus: Social Science and Commerce
Social Science
Section | Main areas |
|---|---|
Geography | Physical geography, lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, human and economic geography, geography of India |
History | Prehistoric cultures to the Gupta age, early medieval and medieval India, the Company period, 1857, reform movements, national movement, India after independence |
Economics | Demand and consumer behaviour, production and cost, markets, distribution, money and banking, international trade, public finance, Indian economy |
Civics | Political theory, political thinkers, Indian government and politics, Indian administration, foreign policy |
Since you answer from any two sections, choose the two closest to your graduation subjects and prepare them in depth. Read the question paper instructions carefully on exam day.
Commerce
Accounting and bookkeeping, business organisation, business economics, banking, marketing, auditing and related commerce topics at graduation level. Accounting problems need regular practice, so keep a set of solved journal entries, ledgers and final accounts for revision. Theory units such as business organisation and marketing are well suited to structured mains answers.
Subject-wise Syllabus: Art, Music, Home Science, Physical Education, Computer and Agriculture
Subject | Main areas |
|---|---|
Art | History of Indian and Western art, art styles and schools, major painters and works, colour theory, methods of picture-making |

Agriculture/Horticulture | Soil science, agronomy and crop production, irrigation, horticulture, plant protection, animal husbandry, agricultural extension |
Special school posts (Sparsh, Sanket and Prayas schools) follow the syllabus of the subject concerned; candidates should also check the advertisement for any additional skill requirement, such as Braille or sign language, linked to these posts. The Computer syllabus is the widest of all subjects and closely follows a computer science degree. Start with data structures, operating systems, DBMS and networks, which carry broad weight.
High-Weight Areas to Prioritise
UPPSC does not publish unit-wise weightage for LT Grade. The priorities below come from the structure of each syllabus and from the areas that carry the most content, so treat them as a planning guide rather than an official weightage.
Subject | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
Hindi | History of Hindi literature, poetics, grammar | These units connect to almost every literature question and are easy to revise as charts |
English | Literature by period, grammar and usage | Literature dominates descriptive answers; grammar gives quick MCQ marks |
Science | Mechanics, electricity, chemical bonding, organic basics | Core concepts that other units build on |
Social Science | Your two chosen sections in full | Depth in two sections beats thin coverage of four |
Computer | Data structures, operating systems, DBMS, networks | Widely tested and useful for written answers |
Home Science | Food and nutrition, child development | Large units with many factual and applied questions |
Physical Education | Anatomy and physiology, principles and history | Foundation for sports science and health units |
Overlap Between Prelims and Mains
Area | Prelims | Mains | How to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
Subject concepts | 120 MCQs | 20 written answers | Study each unit once for understanding, then practise both MCQs and short answers on it |
Definitions and facts | Tested directly | Used inside answers | Keep a one-page fact sheet per unit |
Explanation and analysis | Indirectly, through statement questions | Tested directly | Write two answers a week from the start |
General Studies | 30 questions | Not tested | Finish GS revision before the prelims, then move fully to subject writing |
Study Sources That Match the Syllabus
Official syllabus PDF: Keep the subject syllabus from the advertisement as your master checklist and tick off units as you finish them.
Graduation textbooks: The subject paper is set at graduation level, so your university course books are the main source for both stages.
NCERT books for Classes 6 to 12: Useful for General Studies and for building a clear base in Science, Social Science and Home Science before moving to graduation-level detail.
Uttar Pradesh-specific material: A short source for UP geography, economy, culture and schemes covers the state focus in General Studies.
Previous papers and answer keys: UPPSC released answer keys for the 2025 prelims. Solving these papers shows the real depth of questions in your subject.
Avoid collecting too many sources. One textbook per unit, your own notes and regular tests work better than five half-read books.
How to Cover the UP LT Grade Syllabus
Weeks 1 to 8: Cover your subject unit by unit from graduation textbooks, and make short notes as you go. Keep 30 minutes a day for General Studies.
Weeks 3 to 10: Add current affairs and Uttar Pradesh-specific facts, with a monthly revision of your notes.
Weeks 6 to 12: Take topic-wise MCQ tests after each unit and write two or three mains-style answers a week.
Weeks 12 onward: Take full-length prelims mocks, analyse them the same day, and keep an error log of wrong and slow questions.
After the prelims: Switch to full mains practice, with timed 3-hour papers and answer review.
