UP LT Grade Eligibility 2025: Age and Qualification

UP LT Grade eligibility depends mostly on your subject. UPPSC recruits Assistant Teachers (LT Grade) for Government Secondary Schools in Uttar Pradesh subject-wise, and each subject has its own degree requirement on top of common rules on age, B.Ed and nationality. The current cycle, Advertisement No. A-5/E-1/2025, has 7,466 posts across 15 subjects, with age counted as on 1 July 2025.

This page brings together the subject-wise qualification table, the age limit and relaxations, branch rules, the conditions for special school posts and the common reasons applications are rejected. The application window for this cycle closed on 28 August 2025, so use this page to check whether you will be eligible for the next notification. The advertisement is the final authority, so verify every condition there.

Subject rules are strict. A degree that only looks similar, such as a general science degree without Chemistry for a Science post, can lead to rejection at document verification. If your degree does not clearly match, read the exact wording in the advertisement before applying.

How Subject Requirements Are Usually Read

  • "As a subject" means in the degree itself: The subject should appear in your graduation marksheets, not only in a diploma or add-on course.

  • Combination subjects need every listed subject: Science needs both Physics and Chemistry; Biology needs both Zoology and Botany.

  • Social Science needs two of four: Any two of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics at graduation are accepted.

  • Hindi has a Sanskrit condition: Without Sanskrit at Intermediate level or the listed equivalent, a Hindi graduate may not qualify for the Hindi post.

B.Ed and Professional Training

  • B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course: Required for most subjects. Check that your college and course session were recognised by NCTE.

  • Physical Education: B.P.Ed or B.P.E. is the professional qualification instead of B.Ed.

  • Computer and Art: Reports describe B.Ed as a preferential qualification for some routes in these subjects. Confirm the exact wording in the advertisement for your route.

  • Special school posts: A special education diploma or B.Ed approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), along with RCI registration, is reported for these posts.

Your qualification must be complete by the last date of the application. Candidates who were still waiting for a B.Ed result on that date should read the advertisement's rule on result deadlines carefully, because applying with an incomplete qualification can lead to cancellation later.

How to Calculate Your Upper Age Limit

  1. Start with the base limit: 40 years as on 1 July 2025.

  2. Add the relaxation for your category: For example, an OBC candidate of UP domicile can be up to 45 years old, which means born on or after 2 July 1980.

  3. Check the certificate: The relaxation applies only if your category or disability certificate is valid and in the prescribed format.

  4. Do not stack relaxations unless the advertisement allows it: Where a candidate belongs to more than one category, read the advertisement rule on combined relaxation before assuming a higher limit.

These relaxations follow standard UPPSC rules as reported for this cycle. Some third-party pages show different figures, such as 3 years for OBC, so rely on the advertisement. Relaxations are available only to candidates of Uttar Pradesh domicile; candidates from other states apply in the unreserved category without relaxation.

Nationality, Domicile and Other Conditions

  • Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India.

  • Domicile: Candidates from other states can apply, but reservation and age relaxation are given only to Uttar Pradesh domicile candidates of the notified categories.

  • Certificates: Category, domicile and disability certificates must be in the format and validity period prescribed by the UP government.

  • Single subject: Each subject is a separate post with its own exam date, so choose the subject that matches your graduation.

  • Character and health: Selected candidates must meet the character and medical fitness conditions of government service.

No limit on the number of attempts has been reported; what limits you is the age condition in each cycle.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Wrong subject combination: For example, a B.Sc graduate without Chemistry applying for Science.

  • No recognised B.Ed: A B.Ed from a course or session without NCTE recognition.

  • Over or under age: Born outside the date window after counting any relaxation.

  • Relaxation claimed without UP domicile: Out-of-state candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation.

  • Incomplete qualification: Degree or B.Ed not complete within the advertisement's deadline.

  • Invalid certificates: Category or disability certificates in the wrong format or issued outside the allowed period.

Eligibility for Special School Posts

The 81 special school posts in the 2025 cycle are in Sparsh (visually impaired), Sanket (hearing and speech impaired) and Prayas (locomotor disability) schools. These posts carry extra conditions on top of the subject degree.

  • Subject degree: Graduation in the subject concerned, as for regular posts.

  • Special education qualification: An RCI-approved special education diploma or B.Ed in special education, as reported.

  • RCI registration: A valid registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India.

  • Skill test: Reports mention a qualifying test such as Braille or sign language for Sparsh and Sanket schools.

If you hold a regular B.Ed but no RCI qualification, apply for the regular male or female branch post in your subject instead.

How Eligibility Is Checked

UPPSC accepts the online form on the basis of the details you enter. Your eligibility is actually tested later, at document verification, after the mains result. This means a candidate can clear both written stages and still lose the post if a certificate does not match the claim made in the form.

  • Fill the form from your documents: Enter marks, dates and subjects exactly as printed on your certificates.

  • Use the correction window: In the 2025 cycle, corrections were allowed until 4 September 2025. Fix any mistake within the window.

  • Keep originals and copies ready: Results are declared subject-wise, and verification notices can come soon after.
