UP police computer operator
UP police computer operator is a recruitment exam, relevant to candidates preparing for state government department recruitment.
UP police computer operator Study Material
The UP Police Computer Operator exam is the direct recruitment route to Computer Operator Grade-A posts in Uttar Pradesh Police. It is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), the same board that runs constable and sub-inspector recruitment in the state. Computer Operator Grade-A is a technical post, so the paper tests computer science far more heavily than a general police exam does.

Where the Latest Cycle Stands
The board opened online applications for Computer Operator Grade-A in December 2025. Registration ran until 15 January 2026, with a short window afterwards for fee payment and corrections. Candidates had to complete One Time Registration (OTR) on the board's portal before applying.
After applications closed, the board's notice, as reported in March 2026, said the offline written exam is proposed for October or November 2026. The word used is proposed, so treat the month as tentative. As of 19 October 2026, we could not find a confirmed exam date or admit card notice for this post in the notice list we reached on the official website. The board's recent notices were mostly about constable and sub-inspector recruitment.
What to do right now: keep preparing as if the exam can be announced at short notice, and check the notice section of the official website every few days. Admit cards are released there, so do not rely on forwarded messages or unofficial pages.
Do not confuse this with the older cycle
The board also ran a separate, much smaller Computer Operator Grade-A process under its 2023 direct recruitment, reported at 56 posts, with a written exam and typing test held in late 2025. That process is different from the 1,352-post recruitment. If you read a page that shows 56 vacancies next to a 2026 exam, or mixes the two sets of dates, treat it with caution.
Important Dates
Event | Date |
|---|---|

Typing test | To be notified, after the written result |
Document verification | To be notified |
Tentative dates come from the board's notices and can change. Track the notice section of the official website and your registered email and mobile number.
Vacancy Details
The reported vacancy count is 1,352 posts. Category-wise, the numbers published in the notification summaries are as follows.
Category | Posts |
|---|---|
Unreserved (UR) | 545 |
EWS | 134 |
OBC | 364 |
SC | 283 |
ST | 26 |
Total | 1,352 |
These figures are indicative. Horizontal reservations, such as those for ex-servicemen or women, apply as per Uttar Pradesh government rules, and the final distribution is the one printed in the official notification. Vacancies can also be revised before the result, so recheck the notice if a revised list appears.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
As reported from the notification, a candidate needs one of the following:
Intermediate route: Class 12 (Intermediate) with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised board, plus an O Level certificate from DOEACC (now NIELIT) or an equivalent computer qualification.
Diploma route: A diploma in Computer Engineering, Information Technology or Electronics Engineering from the Uttar Pradesh Board of Technical Education or an equivalent recognised institution.
Typing skill is also required as per the service rules, which is why the typing test is a mandatory stage.
Age limit
The age range is 18 to 28 years, counted as on 1 July 2025. Upper age relaxation applies to reserved categories and certain government employees as per Uttar Pradesh rules; for example, a five-year relaxation is reported for OBC, SC and ST candidates who are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. Check the age relaxation clause in the notification for your exact case.
Nationality
Candidates must be Indian citizens, or fall within the other categories the notification permits, such as certain Tibetan refugees and persons of Indian origin.
Application Fee and How to Apply
Category | Fee (as reported) |
|---|---|
General, OBC, EWS | Rs. 500 |
SC, ST | Rs. 400 |
The application window for this cycle has closed. If the board reopens applications or announces a new recruitment, the steps are usually the same:
Register on the board's portal through One Time Registration and keep the login details safe.
Open the Computer Operator Grade-A recruitment link and fill in personal, educational and category details.
Upload the photograph, signature and other documents in the size and format the notice specifies.
Pay the fee online and download the confirmation page.
The most common reasons for rejection are an incomplete OTR, a mismatch between the name on certificates and the application, and a category claim without a valid certificate.
Selection Process
As reported, selection runs through the following stages. You must clear every stage to reach the final list.
Written examination: An objective paper of 200 marks. A minimum qualifying percentage applies, reported as 40 percent.
Typing test: Qualifying in nature, in Hindi and English. Marks from the typing test are not reported to add to the merit.
Document verification: Original certificates are checked against the application.
Final merit list: Prepared on the basis of written exam marks, with normalisation if the exam is held in more than one shift.
Medical examination and character verification: Required before appointment.
Exam Pattern
The written paper is a single objective test in OMR format. Questions are multiple choice with four options.
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
General Knowledge | 40 | 50 |
Mental Ability and Reasoning | 40 | 50 |
Computer Science | 80 | 100 |
Total | 160 | 200 |
Each question carries 1.25 marks and the time allowed is 2 hours. We could not confirm from an official source whether wrong answers are penalised, so read the marking scheme on the admit card and in the notification before the exam.
What this means for you
Half the marks are computer science: This section decides the merit list. A candidate who is strong in it and average elsewhere usually does better than the reverse.
Time is tight but fair: Two hours for 160 questions is about 45 seconds per question. Computer science questions are often quick recall, so you can bank time there for reasoning.
General knowledge is a scoring section: It has a heavy Uttar Pradesh flavour, so state-level facts are worth the effort.
Syllabus Summary
Section | Important topics |
|---|---|
General Knowledge | Indian history and polity, geography, general science, current affairs, Uttar Pradesh administration, police and culture, economy, important days, awards |
Mental Ability and Reasoning | Series, analogies, direction sense, logical diagrams, data interpretation, classification, decision making, spatial visualisation |
Computer Science | Computer fundamentals, operating systems, networks, internet, DBMS and SQL, data structures, Boolean algebra, office tools, cyber security basics |
The topic lists are drawn from the board's notification as reported and from the way the paper has been framed. Use them as a working checklist.
Typing Test
The typing test is qualifying, but it eliminates candidates who ignore it. The reported requirement is a speed of 25 words per minute in Hindi and 30 words per minute in English, with 85 percent accuracy. Hindi typing uses the Unicode Inscript keyboard layout, which many candidates have not practised. Start Inscript practice early, because the layout takes weeks to become automatic.
Salary and Career Growth
The post is reported at Pay Matrix Level-4, with a pay range of Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 under the Seventh Pay Commission. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other benefits are added as per Uttar Pradesh government rules. The in-hand salary varies by posting city, so any monthly figure you see online is an estimate, not an official number.
Computer Operator Grade-A is a stable technical cadre inside the state police. Promotion to higher posts in the computer cadre follows the department's service rules and seniority, so check the official promotion rules if long-term growth matters to you.
How to Prepare
Start with computer science
Because it carries 100 of 200 marks, finish this section first. Cover fundamentals, operating systems, networks, DBMS and SQL, data structures and office tools in that order. Make short notes for definitions, full forms and commands, since many questions test recall.
Build a daily general knowledge habit
Spend 30 to 40 minutes a day on static GK and current affairs. Give extra time to Uttar Pradesh topics: districts, administration, police structure, culture and schemes.
Keep reasoning steady
Practise one or two reasoning sets daily. The topics are standard, and accuracy improves quickly with repetition.
Practise typing every day
Fifteen to twenty minutes of Hindi Inscript and English typing each day is enough if you do it consistently.
Use mock tests the right way
Attempt full-length tests in the 160-question, 2-hour format, then spend as long analysing as you did attempting. Note whether your errors come from concept gaps, careless reading or time pressure.
Documents to Keep Ready
Document verification can be called at short notice after the written result and typing test. Keep scanned and original copies of these ready:
Education proof: Class 10 certificate for date of birth, Class 12 marksheet showing Physics and Mathematics, and the O Level certificate or diploma.
Category and domicile: Caste certificate in the prescribed format, EWS certificate if applicable, and Uttar Pradesh domicile where you claim relaxation.
Identity and photographs: A valid photo ID, the application printout and recent photographs.
The exact list is given in the board's notice, so match it item by item once it is released.
Cut-off Reference
We have not found an official cut-off for the 1,352-post recruitment, because the written exam has not been reported as held. Cut-offs change every year with paper difficulty, vacancies and the number of candidates, so last cycle's figures are a benchmark at best.
For the latest notices, always rely on the board's website, uppbpb.gov.in, rather than on third-party summaries.
