UP Police Computer Operator Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Conditions

UP Police Computer Operator eligibility depends on three things: a qualifying education in science and computers, an age within the notified range, and nationality or other service conditions. The recruitment is for Computer Operator Grade-A posts and is run by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB).

This page explains each rule in plain language, shows how age is counted, lists who is not eligible and tells you what to check before document verification. The details come from the latest reported notification, with applications that ran from 16 December 2025 to 15 January 2026. The notification itself on the board's website is the final authority, and any detail we could not confirm there is marked as reported.

Where This Cycle Stands

Applications for the 1,352-post recruitment are closed. The written exam is reported as proposed for October or November 2026, and as of 19 October 2026 no confirmed exam date was visible on the official site. Eligibility was checked against the cut-off dates in the notification, so a candidate who missed those dates cannot become eligible for this cycle by completing a course now.

That still makes this page useful in two ways. If you applied, it helps you confirm that your documents will pass verification. If you plan to apply in a future recruitment, it shows the kind of rules the board applies to this post. Future notices can change qualification or age details, so always read the new notification.

Educational Qualification

As reported from the notification, a candidate must hold one of the following.

Route 1: Class 12 with computer certificate

  • Class 12 (Intermediate): Passed from a recognised board with Physics and Mathematics as subjects.

  • O Level certificate: A computer course certificate at O Level from DOEACC, now known as NIELIT, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the board.

Route 2: Diploma

  • Diploma: A diploma in Computer Engineering, Information Technology or Electronics Engineering from the Uttar Pradesh Board of Technical Education, or an equivalent recognised institution.

Points that cause confusion

  • Physics and Mathematics are both required on the Class 12 route: A science stream with only Biology and no Mathematics does not meet the rule.

  • Equivalent qualification: If your certificate has a different name, check the notification's list of equivalents or ask the board before the document stage.

  • Result deadline: The qualification should normally be complete by the last date of application. A pending result is usually not accepted. Confirm in the notice.

  • Higher degrees: The notification sets the minimum. If you hold a degree, check whether the board counts it as an equivalent, because a degree does not automatically replace a required certificate.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The age limit is 18 to 28 years, counted as on 1 July 2025. Age is always counted on the date given in the notification, not on the date of the exam or the date you apply.

How to check your age

  1. Take your date of birth from the Class 10 certificate, because that is the document the board generally accepts as proof.

  2. Count your age as on 1 July 2025.

  3. Add the relaxation that applies to you, if any, to the upper limit.

As a rough guide for General category candidates, a minimum of 18 years on 1 July 2025 means a date of birth on or before 1 July 2007. For the upper limit, the exact wording matters: whether it reads "not more than 28 years" or "below 28 years" changes the last eligible date of birth by a year. Read the clause in the notification for the exact window.

Age relaxation

Category

Upper age relaxation (as reported)

General

None

OBC, SC, ST (domiciled in Uttar Pradesh)

5 years, making the upper limit 33 years

Uttar Pradesh government employees

5 years, as per service rules

Other groups (for example ex-servicemen, dependants of certain personnel)

As per Uttar Pradesh government orders printed in the notification

Relaxation is usually available only if you hold a valid certificate in the format the state requires and meet the domicile condition where it applies. EWS candidates are generally treated as unreserved for age purposes, but confirm this in the notice.

Nationality and Domicile

A candidate must be one of the following, as reported:

  • Citizen of India.

  • Certain Tibetan refugees: Those who came to India before 1 January 1962 and plan to settle permanently, under the conditions in the notice.

  • Persons of Indian origin: Those who migrated from specified countries to settle in India, under the conditions in the notice and with the required eligibility certificate.

Domicile matters mainly for reservation and age relaxation. Check whether your category benefit is available only to residents of Uttar Pradesh, as the age relaxation reported here is.

Typing Skill and Other Conditions

Typing skill is required as per the service rules. The board tests it in a qualifying typing stage after the written exam. The reported standard is 25 words per minute in Hindi and 30 words per minute in English with 85 percent accuracy, with Hindi typing on the Unicode Inscript layout. You do not need a separate typing certificate to apply unless the notification says so, but you must pass the test to continue.

Other common conditions in police recruitment notices include:

  • Character: A candidate with a criminal record or a pending case may be disqualified after character verification.

  • Medical fitness: The candidate must meet the medical standards in the notice.

  • Single application: Only one valid application per candidate is generally allowed.

Read the full list in the notification, since these conditions apply even after you pass the written exam.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Without Physics and Mathematics in Class 12: The Class 12 route does not apply without both subjects.

  • Without a computer qualification: Class 12 alone, or a general degree without an O Level certificate or accepted equivalent, does not meet the rule.

  • Under 18 or above the upper limit on 1 July 2025: After allowing for relaxation.

  • Result awaited: A candidate whose qualification was not complete by the notified date.

  • Incorrect category claim: A category or relaxation claim that cannot be supported by a valid certificate.

  • False information: Wrong details in the application can lead to cancellation at any stage.

Fee and Documents

The fee reported for this cycle is Rs. 500 for General, OBC and EWS candidates and Rs. 400 for SC and ST candidates. Applications also needed One Time Registration on the board's portal.

Keep these documents ready for verification:

  • Date of birth proof: Class 10 certificate or equivalent.

  • Qualification proof: Class 12 marksheet showing Physics and Mathematics, the O Level certificate or the diploma and its marksheets.

  • Category proof: Caste or EWS certificate in the prescribed format and a domicile certificate where required.

  • Identity proof: A valid photo ID that matches the application.

Eligibility Checklist

  1. Confirm Physics and Mathematics in Class 12, or your diploma branch.

  2. Confirm that your O Level or equivalent certificate is valid and issued by a recognised body.

  3. Calculate your age as on 1 July 2025, with relaxation if it applies.

  4. Check that the name and date of birth are identical on every certificate.

  5. Start Hindi and English typing practice so you can clear the qualifying stage.

  6. Re-read the notification on the board's website for the final wording.

The official notification is on uppbpb.gov.in.
