UP Police Computer Operator Cut Off: Status, Factors and Target Score

A UP Police Computer Operator cut-off is the minimum score that decides who moves from the written exam to the typing test and document verification, and finally who makes the merit list. For the current 1,352-post recruitment by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), the written exam has not been reported as held, so there is no official cut-off to quote yet.

This page explains what is known, what usually decides the cut-off, and how to set a target using your mock test scores. We have deliberately not listed any estimated cut-off as if it were official.

The only figure that can be stated with any support is the minimum qualifying percentage, and even that is as reported from the recruitment notice summaries. It is a floor to qualify, not the score that gets you selected. The selection cut-off is normally higher and is decided after the exam.

What the Cut-off Means for This Post

For a post with a written exam and then a qualifying typing test, the cut-off works in layers:

  • Qualifying marks: The minimum percentage you must score in the written paper to remain in the process.

  • Merit cut-off: The score of the last candidate who gets a place in each category, which depends on vacancies. As reported, 1,352 posts are split into 545 Unreserved, 134 EWS, 364 OBC, 283 SC and 26 ST.

  • Stage clearance: The typing test is qualifying. You must reach the speed and accuracy standard to stay in the list, but your written score decides your rank.

What Affects the Cut-off

  • Paper difficulty: A tougher Computer Science section pushes the cut-off down for everyone. An easy paper pushes it up.

  • Number of vacancies: More posts in a category mean a lower closing score for that category.

  • Number of candidates: A large pool of applicants increases competition for the same seats.

  • Normalisation: If the exam is held in more than one shift, the board may normalise marks, which can shift raw scores up or down.

  • Negative marking: If wrong answers carry a deduction, net scores will be lower. We could not confirm this from an official source, so check the notice.

  • Typing test dropouts: Candidates who fail typing leave the list, which can slightly lower the effective merit cut-off.

How to Set Your Target Score

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat any earlier figure as a benchmark only, and aim for a clear margin above the qualifying score rather than a bare pass.

  1. Start from the paper: The paper is 200 marks. The 40 percent qualifying level reported is 80 marks, or 64 correct answers at 1.25 marks each before any deduction.

  2. Add a safety margin: Aim to be well above that in mock tests, because selection depends on your rank within your category, not on qualifying alone.

  3. Use the average of your last five mocks: A single good score is not a reliable guide. A steady average is.

  4. Set a section target: Because Computer Science carries 100 marks, plan to score a clear majority of them. Then balance General Knowledge and Reasoning for a total with a margin.

  5. Track accuracy: If wrong answers can cost marks, a higher accuracy at fewer attempts may beat a high attempt count.

When the Cut-off Will Be Published

The board usually releases the result and the cut-off or merit details on its website after the exam and answer key process. Track the notice section on uppbpb.gov.in, and treat pages that publish expected cut-offs as estimates only.
