UP Police Constable is the largest state-level police recruitment in India for Class 12 pass candidates. It is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), Lucknow, and fills Constable posts in the Civil Police, PAC, Special Security Force, Mounted Police and Women Battalion, along with Jail Warder posts. The written exam for this cycle is over, the result is out, and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is running in October 2026. • PET schedule and centre changes: UPPRPB issued notices on PET dates on 29 September 2026, on centres and dates on 1 October 2026, on a date change for the Gorakhpur and Azamgarh centres on 5 October 2026, and on further centre and date changes on 7 October 2026. Read the latest notice for your centre before you travel.

• PET admit cards: The board said admit cards would be available on the official website about one week before each candidate's PET date.

• DV/PST: Document Verification and the Physical Standard Test began on 17 August 2026 for shortlisted candidates.

• Written result: Declared on 31 July 2026. Out of about 21.9 lakh candidates expected for the exam, 76,184 were shortlisted for DV/PST, roughly 2.3 candidates per post.

• Final result: Not yet announced. It will follow the PET and medical stages.

UP Police Constable Notification 2025-26

The notification for 32,679 posts was released on 31 December 2025, with online applications open until 30 January 2026. Three points in this cycle matter for anyone tracking the exam:

• One-time age relaxation: A Government Order dated 5 January 2026 added three years to the upper age limit for all categories. It applies to this recruitment only.

• One Time Registration (OTR): Candidates had to complete OTR on the UPPRPB portal before applying. Expect the same step in future cycles.

• Fewer posts than last time: The previous recruitment filled 60,244 posts. With about half the vacancies, competition at the top of the merit list rose sharply.

UP Police Constable Vacancy 2026

One application covered seven posts. Candidates ranked their preferred posts in the form, and allocation follows merit and that preference order.

Category-wise vacancy

Women candidates can compete for Civil Police, Women Battalion and Jail Warder (Female) posts only, which together account for 12,857 posts in this cycle, with Civil Police shared with men. Vacancy numbers change every cycle, so treat these as a reference for the current recruitment.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification

Candidates need a Class 12 (Intermediate) pass from a board established by law in India, or an equivalent qualification. Any stream is accepted and there is no minimum percentage. The result must be declared by the last date of application, so candidates still appearing in Class 12 cannot apply.

Age limit

The minimum age is 18 years and age is counted as on 1 July 2025 for this cycle. Reservation and category relaxation apply only to candidates belonging to Uttar Pradesh. Reserved candidates from other states can apply, but as General candidates.

Physical standards

Men must show a chest expansion of at least 5 cm. For date-of-birth windows, document rules and common disqualifiers.

Application Fee and How to Apply

The application window for this cycle is closed. The next cycle is likely to follow the same broad steps:

1. Complete One Time Registration (OTR) on the UPPRPB portal with your Class 10 details.

2. Log in and open the active recruitment, then fill in personal, educational and category details.

3. Set your post preference order with care, because it decides the cadre you are allotted.

4. Upload your photograph and signature in the size given in the notification.

5. Pay the fee online and save the confirmation page.

Most rejections come from a name or date of birth that does not match the Class 10 certificate, a caste certificate not in the Uttar Pradesh format, or an unclear photograph.

UP Police Constable Exam Pattern

The written exam is a single objective paper conducted offline on OMR sheets. Questions come in Hindi and English, except the General Hindi section.

Each correct answer carries 2 marks. The 2024 exam deducted 0.5 marks for every wrong answer. For the June 2026 exam, several reports say no negative marking was applied, but confirm the marking rule in the official notification and the instructions on the question booklet for your cycle. Minimum qualifying marks are 30% for Unreserved, 25% for EWS and OBC, and 20% for SC and ST candidates.

• Every section counts almost equally: Each section is worth 74 or 76 marks, so no subject can be skipped.

• Speed decides rank: You get 48 seconds per question on average. With cut-offs above 250 for some categories, accuracy at speed matters more than chasing rare topics.

The Mental Aptitude part is unique to police exams. It tests your judgement on policing situations, not just puzzles, so do not prepare it like a general reasoning section.

Selection Process

1. Written exam: Candidates are shortlisted category-wise on normalised marks, because the exam runs in several shifts.

2. Document Verification and PST: Original certificates are checked and height, chest and weight are measured. This stage is qualifying.

3. Physical Efficiency Test: Men must run 4.8 km in 25 minutes and women 2.4 km in 14 minutes. The PET is qualifying and adds no marks.

4. Medical examination: Candidates in the provisional list are checked for fitness before appointment.

The final merit list is based on written exam marks of candidates who clear every stage. A strong written score is therefore necessary, but it is not enough on its own.

How to Prepare for UP Police Constable

With cut-offs this high, preparation is less about finishing the syllabus and more about answering most questions correctly within two hours. A practical plan for the next cycle looks like this:

• Weeks 1 to 6, build the base: Revise Class 6 to 10 maths and science, start Hindi grammar rules, and read one current affairs source daily.

• Weeks 4 to 10, add UP GK and reasoning: Cover UP history, geography, culture and schemes, and solve 20 to 25 reasoning questions every day, including police-aptitude questions.

• Week 8 onwards, timed practice: Move to sectional tests, then full 150-question papers in two hours. Keep an error log and revise it every weekend.

• Physical training alongside: Start running early. Building up to 4.8 km in 25 minutes takes weeks, and the PET follows the written result within a few months.
