State Government Recruitment

UP Police SI Eligibility 2026: Age Limit, Education and Physical Standards

UP Police SI eligibility is set by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) in each recruitment notification. The latest one, released on 12 August 2025 for 4,543 Sub Inspector and equivalent posts, fixed 1 July 2025 as the date for calculating age and gave every category a one-time relaxation of three years in the upper age limit.

This page explains every condition you must meet: nationality, graduation, age and category-wise relaxation, date-of-birth windows, physical standards, the running test, medical fitness and the common reasons candidates are rejected. Read it before the next notification so you can fix gaps, such as a missing certificate, well in advance.

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India. The UP recruitment rules also allow a few other categories defined in the notification, such as Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from certain countries with the intention of settling in India. Candidates in these categories need an eligibility certificate issued by the state government.

Reservation, age relaxation and the horizontal quota for women apply only to candidates domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. A candidate from another state can apply, but only in the unreserved category and without category-based age relaxation.

Educational Qualification

The only compulsory qualification is a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a university established by law in India, or a qualification the government recognises as equivalent. There is no minimum percentage. Your degree must be complete and your marksheet or certificate available by the date fixed in the notification; in the 2025 cycle, the qualification had to be held at the time of applying.

Preferential Qualifications

The notification gives preference in direct recruitment to candidates who hold any one of the following. They are not compulsory, and a candidate gets the benefit of only one, even if they hold more.

Preferential qualification

Issuing body or condition

Computer "O" Level certificate

NIELIT (formerly DOEACC) or an equivalent recognised certificate

Territorial Army service

At least two years of service

NCC "B" certificate

National Cadet Corps

What Is Not Required for UP SI

Some pages list Hindi and English typing speed, shorthand and a compulsory "O" Level certificate as UP Police SI eligibility conditions. These belong to other UPPRPB posts, such as SI (Confidential) and ASI (Clerk and Accounts). For Sub Inspector Civil Police and equivalent posts, typing and shorthand are not required, and "O" Level is only a preferential qualification.

UP Police SI Age Limit and Relaxation

The basic age limit is 21 to 28 years, calculated as on 1 July of the notification year. For the 2025 cycle, the government also allowed a one-time relaxation of three years to all candidates, raising the general upper limit to 31 years.

For Platoon Commander PAC/SI Armed Police and Special Security Force posts, the notification gives a separate post-wise date-of-birth table. Confirm your window for those posts in the official advertisement before applying.

Ex-Servicemen

Ex-servicemen of Uttar Pradesh deduct their period of military service from their actual age. In the 2025 cycle, the resulting age, after including the 3-year relaxation, had to be no more than 34 years as on 1 July 2025.

A Quick Example

Ravi, an OBC candidate from Uttar Pradesh, was born on 15 March 1991. On 1 July 2025 he was 34. The general limit with relaxation was 31, but his OBC relaxation of 5 extra years took his limit to 36, so he was eligible. Had he been from Bihar, he would have applied as unreserved with a limit of 31 and would not have qualified on age.

Age is verified from your Class 10 (High School) certificate. A date of birth in any other document is not accepted if it conflicts with it.

Physical Standards (PST)

Physical standards are checked after the written exam, but you should confirm them before applying, because a candidate who falls short cannot move forward however well they score.

Female: General, OBC, SC

Female: ST

Male candidates must show a chest expansion of at least 5 cm. There is no separate height relaxation for OBC or SC candidates; only ST candidates get lower standards.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The running test is qualifying and adds no marks, but failing it ends your candidature in that cycle.

Male

4.8 km

Female

2.4 km

16 minutes

In the 2025 cycle, PET started on 29 June 2026, about seven weeks after the written result. Building stamina takes longer than that, so add regular running to your routine from the start of your preparation.

Medical Standards

Candidates who clear PET face a medical examination by a board formed under the recruitment rules. You must be free of any disease or physical defect that could affect police duties. The checks usually include:

  • Eyesight and colour vision: Vision standards are set in the notification; colour blindness leads to rejection.

  • Limbs and posture: Knock knees, flat feet and other deformities of the hands or legs are checked.

  • General health: Hearing, teeth, blood pressure, and blood and urine tests, along with other checks the board considers necessary.

If you wear glasses or have a known condition, consult a doctor early and compare your status with the medical standards in the notification.

Other Conditions and Who Is Not Eligible

Beyond age, education and fitness, the notification sets several conduct and documentation rules. Candidates are not eligible, or are disqualified at a later stage, in these cases:

  • More than one living spouse: A man with more than one living wife, or a woman married to a man who already has a living wife, cannot be appointed unless exempted by the government.

  • Character and antecedents: Selected candidates go through character and police verification. A record that makes a candidate unfit for police service can lead to cancellation.

  • False information: Wrong details in the form or invalid certificates lead to rejection at any stage, even after appointment.

  • Wrong category certificate: Caste, EWS and other certificates must be in the format and validity period given in the notification.

  • Applying for the wrong post: Male candidates cannot be selected for Female Battalion posts, and women cannot be selected for PAC or SSF posts.

The notification does not set a separate limit on the number of attempts. In practice, your age limit decides how many cycles you can appear in.

Application Fee and Documents

The application fee in the 2025 cycle was Rs. 400 for every category, paid online. Keep these documents ready before you apply:

  • Class 10 certificate: For date of birth.

  • Graduation marksheet and degree: Proof of the compulsory qualification.

  • Category and domicile certificates: Needed to claim reservation or age relaxation.

  • Preferential qualification certificate: "O" Level, Territorial Army or NCC "B", if you hold one.

  • Photograph and signature: In the size and format given in the notification.

Check Your Eligibility in Five Steps

  1. Confirm your degree: Make sure it is complete and from a recognised university.

  2. Work out your age: Calculate it on 1 July of the notification year and match it against your category's date-of-birth window.

  3. Check your domicile: If you are not from Uttar Pradesh, use the unreserved age limit.

  4. Measure yourself: Compare your height, chest or weight with the PST table.

  5. Test your running: Time yourself over the PET distance; aim to finish with a margin of two to three minutes.

Eligibility rules can change with each advertisement, so always confirm the final conditions in the latest notification on the official UPPRPB website before you apply.
