The UP TGT Commerce exam is the route to a Trained Graduate Teacher post in Commerce at government-aided secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh. If you hold a commerce degree with a B.Ed and want to teach Classes 6 to 10, this is the recruitment you need to understand first. This page explains who conducts the exam, how many seats there have been, who can apply, how selection works, what the paper looks like and how to prepare for it.
One point is worth knowing before you read further. The latest completed cycle is the 2022 advertisement (Advt. No. 01/2022), whose written exam was finally held on 3 and 4 June 2026. A fresh 2026 notification has been widely expected but, at the time of writing, we could not confirm one on the official website. Dates and figures below are therefore labelled by cycle.

What Is the UP TGT Commerce Exam?
UP TGT is a state-level teacher recruitment test. Candidates apply for a specific subject, and Commerce is one of the subjects offered alongside Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Sanskrit and others. A Commerce TGT teaches accountancy, business studies and related subjects in secondary classes of aided schools.
Commerce is a small-cadre subject. In the 2022 advertisement the post-wise table showed 38 Commerce vacancies in boys' schools and none in girls' schools. Small numbers mean the merit list is competitive, so accuracy in the subject paper matters more than anything else.
Latest Updates and Important Dates
The table below covers the 2022 advertisement, which is the cycle most recently conducted. Treat it as a record of what happened, not as a calendar for the next recruitment.
Event | Date (Advt. No. 01/2022) |
|---|---|
Original notification | 9 June 2022 |
Written exam (rescheduled) | 3 and 4 June 2026 |
Exam city details | Released in May 2026 |
Final merit list and result | Released on the official website in late July 2026 |
Next TGT notification | Not confirmed - check the official website |
Different news sites give slightly different result dates, either 29 or 30 July 2026. Rely on the notice published on upessc.up.gov.in rather than on any aggregator. If you appeared in the exam, use your registration details to check the subject-wise merit list there.
UP TGT Commerce Vacancy
Vacancies are announced post-wise and subject-wise in the official advertisement, and they are split between boys' and girls' institutions. For Commerce, the 2022 advertisement listed the following.
Subject | Boys' schools | Girls' schools | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
Commerce | 38 | 0 | 38 |
Please cross-check this against the original advertisement PDF before quoting it anywhere. Vacancy numbers for any future notification will differ, and reservation by category is applied on top of these totals.
Eligibility Criteria in Brief
The full rules sit in the official advertisement, and the dedicated Testkart eligibility page covers them in depth. The essentials are these.
Educational qualification: a bachelor's degree with Commerce as the relevant subject, plus a B.Ed or an equivalent teacher-training qualification recognised for TGT posts.
Minimum age: 21 years, counted as on 1 July 2022 for the 2022 cycle. The maximum age and category-wise relaxation are fixed by the notification, so read that section of the advertisement carefully. Some websites quote a maximum of 60 years; we have not verified that against the official document, so do not rely on it.
Domicile and reservation: Uttar Pradesh government rules for reserved categories apply.
Here is a mistake we see often. Candidates assume any graduate with a B.Ed qualifies for the Commerce post. The post is subject-specific, so your degree subjects must match what the advertisement lists for Commerce.
Application Process and Fee
Applications are submitted online on the commission's portal. The usual sequence is registration, fee payment, filling in the application form, uploading a photograph and signature, and final submission. Keep scanned documents ready in the size and format the notification asks for.
For reference, the 2022 cycle charged these totals including the online processing charge. Future fees may change.
Category | Total fee (2022 cycle) |
|---|---|
General and OBC | Rs. 750 |
EWS and SC | Rs. 450 |
ST | Rs. 250 |
PwD | Half of the applicable category fee |
Selection Process
Selection for UP TGT is built around one written examination followed by document verification.
Written examination: 125 objective questions for 500 marks. This single paper decides your merit rank.
Document verification: shortlisted candidates present original certificates, identity proof and category documents. Any mismatch with the application can cancel a candidacy, so keep every document consistent.
There is no interview for the TGT post. Ad hoc teachers working under the Shiksha Mitra category have a separate service weightage arrangement, which is why their written component is scaled differently in the official scheme.
UP TGT Commerce Exam Pattern
Feature | Details |
|---|---|
Mode | Offline, OMR-based |
Questions | 125 multiple-choice questions |
Marks per question | 4 |
Maximum marks | 500 |
Duration | 2 hours (120 minutes) |
Negative marking | None |
With no penalty for wrong answers, leaving a question blank gives you nothing to gain. Attempt all 125. Time works out to under a minute a question, so you need quick recall in Accounts and Economics and a steady method for numericals. Note that published summaries differ on whether general sections sit alongside the subject questions, so confirm the section split in the official scheme; our exam pattern page explains the details.

UP TGT Commerce Salary
TGT teachers in Uttar Pradesh are placed in Pay Level 7 of the state pay matrix, with a range of roughly Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 as reported for the post, plus allowances as per government rules. Treat these as indicative figures and confirm the pay level in the advertisement, since allowances and pay structures are revised from time to time.
How to Prepare for UP TGT Commerce
Because one paper decides everything, preparation should be built around the subject and around speed.
Start with the syllabus and previous papers
Read all seven units once, then solve a previous-year Commerce paper without a timer. You will quickly see which units repeat. Accounts and Economics usually feel heavier than Audit, but check the papers instead of guessing.
Plan the study order
Accounts first: it is calculation-heavy and needs the most practice time.
Economics and Statistics next: definitions, laws and formulae that reward revision.
Management, Finance, Audit and Tax last: mostly conceptual, so short notes and repeated revision work well.
Practise under exam conditions
Sit the paper in a single two-hour block. Mark questions you guessed and review them afterwards. Over a few tests you will learn how much time Accounts numericals really take.
Revise with short notes
Keep a one-page sheet per unit with formulae, definitions and common traps, such as the difference between vouching and verification, or between marginal and average utility.
