UP TGT Commerce Cut Off 2026: Category-Wise Marks, Previous Year Trend and Target Score

The UP TGT Commerce cut-off is among the highest of any TGT subject. In the final result for Advt. No. 01/2022, released by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) on 28 July 2026, the unreserved cut-off for Commerce was 492 out of 500. That is the same as answering 123 of 125 questions correctly.

This page lists the latest category-wise Commerce cut-off, compares it with the previous cycle, explains why the marks rose so sharply, and shows how to set a realistic target for the revised 360-mark paper. Treat every figure here as a benchmark from past exams, not a promise about the next one.

UP TGT Commerce Cut-Off 2026 (Advt. No. 01/2022)

The written exam was held on 3 and 4 June 2026 and the final cut-off was released with the final result. All Commerce posts in this cycle were in boys' schools (Balak varg), so no girls' school (Balika varg) cut-off exists for Commerce.

What the Cut-Off Trend Shows

  • The bar rose steeply: the unreserved cut-off moved from about 101 correct answers in 2021 to 123 in 2026.

  • Category gaps narrowed: the gap between UR and SC shrank from 80 marks to just 12, which means reserved-category candidates now face nearly the same accuracy bar.

  • Commerce was the toughest subject to clear: its 492 was the highest unreserved cut-off among all TGT subjects in the 2026 result, just ahead of Sanskrit.

Why the Commerce Cut-Off Is So High

Several factors combined to push the 2026 figures close to the maximum.

  • Very few posts: 38 seats for an entire state means only the very top scorers are selected.

  • Long preparation window: the exam for the 2022 advertisement took place four years later, giving serious candidates extra time to prepare.

  • Difficulty of the paper: when a paper is accessible, many candidates score near the top and the cut-off rises with them.

  • No negative marking: candidates could attempt every question at no risk, which tends to raise scores across the board.

Will the Cut-Off Change With the New Pattern?

Yes, the numbers will not be directly comparable. UPESSC's revised scheme for the next TGT recruitment uses 120 questions for 360 marks, including 30 General Studies questions, and introduces negative marking. Two effects follow:

  • Raw scores will drop: the maximum falls from 500 to 360, so a 492-style figure cannot repeat.

  • Near-perfect scores become harder: negative marking punishes careless guesses, and the General Studies section adds variety that is harder to master completely.

How to Set Your Target Score

Cut-offs change every cycle with the difficulty of the paper, the number of posts and the number of applicants. Use past figures as a benchmark, and aim for a clear margin above them rather than a bare pass.

Benchmark

On the old 500-mark paper

Same percentage on the 360-mark paper

2021 UR cut-off (80.8%)

404

About 291

2026 UR cut-off (98.4%)

492

About 354

These conversions are only a way to compare percentages. No official cut-off exists yet for the revised pattern. A practical approach for a Commerce aspirant is to aim for consistent accuracy above 90 per cent across all 120 questions in timed practice, with very few wrong answers. If the post count rises in the next advertisement, the bar may ease, but plan for a competitive merit list.

Track these numbers in every mock

  • Accuracy: correct answers as a share of attempts. With negative marking, this matters as much as your total.

  • Commerce score out of 270: this section separates the top candidates.

  • General Studies score out of 90: a weak spot here can cost you the margin you gained in Commerce.

  • Unattempted questions: note how many you skipped but could have solved.
