Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited JE
UPPCL JE is a recruitment exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited for the recruitment of Junior Engineers, relevant to engineering graduates targeting technical government and PSU roles.
The UPPCL JE exam is the recruitment route to Junior Engineer posts in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), the state utility that runs power distribution across Uttar Pradesh. The posts are filled in technical trades, mainly Electrical and Civil, through an online computer-based test followed by document verification.
This page explains who can apply, the pattern, the syllabus, how selection works, pay and a preparation plan. As of 26 October 2026 we could not verify a dedicated, current-cycle JE notification on the official portals, so every figure below is labelled indicative or from an earlier cycle. Confirm details on uppcl.org and upenergy.in before you act on them.

Notification status and important dates
Secondary reports in 2026 speak of a large UPPCL recruitment drive across many posts, but none of them gives a notification number, application window or exam date for Junior Engineer. The most recent JE-related advertisement reported by secondary sources combined Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer Trainee posts in 2025. Treat both as unconfirmed until UPPCL publishes an advertisement.

Vacancies
No verified current-cycle vacancy count for Junior Engineer is available. Secondary pages report different earlier figures: one cites 935 JE posts (677 Electrical and 258 Civil) for a past cycle, while another cites 173 JE Trainee posts within a combined 286-post advertisement. Because these do not match, use them only to understand scale. The trade-wise and category-wise split will be in the official advertisement, along with reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, women and other categories as per UP rules.
Eligibility
Qualification
Reports describe a three-year diploma in Electrical Engineering for Electrical JE posts and in Civil Engineering for Civil JE posts. The diploma should come from the Uttar Pradesh technical education board or an equivalent recognised board; AICTE-approved all-India diplomas are reported as acceptable. Diplomas earned through distance learning are reported as not accepted.
Age limit and other conditions
The reported window is 18 to 40 years as on 1 January of the recruitment year. Reserved categories, ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities receive relaxation as per rules. Candidates are also expected to know Hindi in Devanagari script. The full breakdown is on the UPPCL JE eligibility page.
Application fee and how to apply
The application fee for the next cycle has not been notified, and older figures differ between sources, so we are not quoting one. Applications are expected to be online through the portal named in the advertisement. When applications open, follow these steps.
Register: Create a profile with a valid email and mobile number.
Fill the form: Choose your trade, enter qualification, category and domicile details exactly as on your documents.
Upload documents: Photograph, signature and other items in the sizes the notice specifies.
Pay the fee: Use the online mode shown and save the receipt.
Submit and print: Keep a copy of the final application.
Common reasons for rejection include a diploma from a non-recognised source, a mismatch in name or date of birth, and wrong category selection.
Exam pattern
Earlier cycles used a single online test with a technical section for your trade and three common sections.
Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
Technical (Electrical or Civil, diploma level) | 150 | 150 |
General Knowledge and Awareness | 20 | 20 |
General Reasoning | 20 | 20 |
General Hindi | 10 | 10 |
Total | 200 | 200 |
Each correct answer carries 1 mark and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, as reported. Three quarters of the paper is technical, so your trade subjects decide the result. Older pages may show different formats, so follow the official notification. Details are on the UPPCL JE exam pattern page.
Syllabus summary
Topic lists on third-party sites differ and we could not verify an official topic-wise syllabus. Use the table below as a working checklist and compare it with the notification.
Section | Important areas |
|---|---|
Electrical technical | Basic electrical engineering, machines, measurements, power systems, transmission and distribution, switchgear and protection, control systems, electronics, utilisation of energy, estimating and costing |
Civil technical | Building materials, surveying, solid mechanics, concrete and steel structures, fluid mechanics, hydrology, environmental engineering, transportation, construction management |
General sections | Current affairs, Indian polity, economy and geography, Uttar Pradesh facts, reasoning, Hindi grammar and comprehension |
The detailed list is in the UPPCL JE syllabus guide.
Selection process
Computer-based test: Objective paper of 200 marks.
Merit list: Prepared trade-wise and category-wise on test marks, with qualifying marks set by the notification.
Document verification: Diploma, domicile, category and identity proofs are checked.
Recent cycles are reported to have no interview for JE posts. One secondary page mentions interviews, so confirm in the advertisement. Qualifying the test does not by itself guarantee appointment.
Salary and career growth
The post is reported at Pay Level 7 with a starting basic pay of Rs. 44,900 per month, plus allowances as per rules. Reports also mention a trainee period of about two years before confirmation. In-hand pay varies with city and allowances, and estimates on coaching pages are not official figures. Check the pay and trainee terms in the advertisement.
How to prepare
Put most of your hours into the 150-mark technical section, then use the 50 marks of general sections to build a safe margin.
Weeks 1 to 8: Revise core trade subjects from your diploma books and make short notes and formula sheets.
From week 4: Add 30 to 40 minutes daily for current affairs, reasoning and Hindi.
From week 8: Take topic-wise tests, then full-length mocks of 200 questions in 3 hours with an error log.
Cut-off reference
We did not verify an official cut-off for any recent UPPCL JE cycle. Cut-offs change every year with difficulty, vacancies and the number of applicants. Treat past figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them. See the cut-off page for how it is decided.
