UPPCL JE Syllabus: Electrical and Civil Topic-Wise Guide
The UPPCL JE syllabus has two parts: a 150-mark technical section for your trade, Electrical or Civil, and 50 marks of common sections covering general awareness, reasoning and Hindi. Knowing this split tells you where most of your study hours should go.
We could not verify a topic-wise syllabus published by UPPCL for the current cycle. The lists below are built from the subject areas reported for earlier JE tests and from the diploma curriculum. Use them as a working checklist, not as an official list, and compare them with the advertisement on uppcl.org once it is out.

Key points to know
Technical is three quarters of the paper: 150 of 200 marks come from your trade, so a strong diploma-level base matters most.
Separate papers by trade: Electrical and Civil candidates answer different technical questions but the same general sections.
Topic lists vary online: Several sites list different topics for the same section. Do not trust a list that cites no notification.
Electrical technical syllabus
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Basic electrical engineering | Ohm's law, network theorems, AC circuits, three-phase systems, batteries | Network theorems and AC circuits |
Machines | DC machines, transformers, induction and synchronous machines, maintenance and repair | Transformers and induction motors |
Measurements and instruments | Meters, bridges, transducers, error analysis | Meter types and bridges |
Power systems | Generation, transmission and distribution, switchgear and protection, power plant engineering | Transmission and distribution |
Control and electronics | Control systems, basic and industrial electronics, power electronics, digital electronics | Diodes, transistors and logic gates |
Utilisation and design | Utilisation of electrical energy, illumination, heating, electrical design, drawing and estimating | Estimating and costing basics |
Machines, power systems and measurements usually give the most questions in objective diploma-level papers. This is guidance from course structure, not an official weightage.
Civil technical syllabus
Area | Topics to cover | Start with |
|---|---|---|
Materials and construction | Building materials, construction practices, planning and management | Cement, concrete and bricks |
Structures | Solid mechanics, steel structures, design of concrete and masonry structures | Stress, strain and beams |
Fluid and water | Fluid mechanics, pipe flow, open channel flow, hydraulic machines, hydrology, water resources | Fluid properties and pipe flow |
Environmental | Environmental engineering, water supply, sewage, solid waste management | Water treatment steps |
Surveying and transport | Chain and compass surveying, levelling, theodolite, highway and railway basics | Levelling and surveying |
General awareness, reasoning and Hindi
General Knowledge and Awareness
Static topics: Indian polity, economy, history, geography and basic science.
Current affairs: National and international events, awards, schemes, and Uttar Pradesh developments, especially in the power sector.
General Reasoning
Expect analogy, coding-decoding, series, classification, directions, puzzles and Venn diagrams. These are quick scoring questions if you practise a few sets each week.
General Hindi
Grammar, synonyms and antonyms, idioms, error detection, fill in the blanks and comprehension. Since knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari script is a stated condition for the post, take this section seriously even though it carries only 10 marks.
How to cover the syllabus
Weeks 1 to 6: Finish the core trade subjects in the order shown in your table above and write short notes.
Weeks 4 to 8: Add the remaining technical areas and start 30 minutes a day on current affairs and reasoning.
Weeks 8 to 10: Practise Hindi and begin topic-wise tests for each technical area.
Final weeks: Take full-length mocks, review errors the same day and revise from an error log.
