UPPCL JE Cut Off: How It Is Decided and How to Set a Target

The UPPCL JE cut off is the minimum score in the computer-based test that lets a candidate in a trade and category move to document verification. It is decided after the exam, so it changes from one cycle to the next.

We could not verify an official category-wise cut-off for any recent UPPCL JE cycle. Some coaching sites publish tables labelled as expected or from past years, but they disagree with each other and do not cite UPPCL, so we are not reproducing them. This page explains how the cut off works and how to set a safe target instead. Official results appear on uppcl.org.

How the cut off works

Item

What it means

Total marks

200, with 0.25 deducted per wrong answer (earlier cycles)

Trade-wise merit

Electrical and Civil candidates are generally ranked separately

Category-wise cut off

Set for each reservation category after the test

Qualifying marks

A minimum percentage may be set in the notice; one secondary page says about 30 percent for unreserved, which is unverified

Reaching the cut off only takes you to document verification. Final selection depends on vacancies and your merit position.

Previous cut-off status

No verified previous-year figure is available to us, and the last JE-specific cycle reported by secondary sources is from 2022. Past scores in one report for Civil were in the high 100s out of 200, but that figure is unconfirmed. Treat anything without an UPPCL source as a rough indication only, and check the result notice when it is released.

What changes the cut off

  • Paper difficulty: A tougher technical section lowers scores and the cut off.

  • Number of vacancies: More posts usually mean a lower cut off in each category.

  • Applicants: A larger pool raises competition at the top.

  • Trade: Electrical and Civil papers differ, so cut-offs can differ by trade.

  • Negative marking: Wrong answers reduce net scores for everyone.

How to set your target

  1. Use the net score: Count correct answers minus a quarter of wrong ones in every mock.

  2. Aim well above 60 percent: Cut-offs from secondary reports ran above that for unreserved candidates, so a bare pass is risky.

  3. Protect the technical section: Target at least 100 net marks out of 150 in your trade.

  4. Bank the 50 general marks: Aim for 35 or more from awareness, reasoning and Hindi.

These are practice benchmarks, not official numbers. Cut-offs change every year, so treat last year's figures as a benchmark only and aim for a clear margin above them.
